Job Summary 

The purpose of this role is to bring additional operational capacity to new church plants and partnerships. This role will work across multiple partnerships on a fixed term basis to support the operational set up of new partnerships, and leading on operational improvements where there are existing processes. 

This role will be pivotal in establishing sustainable operational excellence, allowing ministry teams to undertake missional work. 

Job responsibilities 

• Support new church partnerships and plants for a fixed term to develop strong operational functions.
• Work collaboratively with parish team members, scoping the operational needs that require supporting, reviewing or developing 
• Set-up new or review existing operational functions, including: HR and recruitment, finance, reporting, fundraising, buildings management.
• Develop digital and communications processes including website development and newsletter templates.
• Lead on development and implementation of volunteer and event management systems.
• Work with parish leaders to develop operational sustainability beyond the term of this role.
• Identify operational needs in support of missional activities, supporting missional project planning and project management.
• Support with partnership reporting processes as part of the Hackney and Islington funded programme.
• Develop a pipeline of income generation opportunities, including rental agreements and grant funding.
• Develop an operational toolkit of policies and best practice for future plants and partnerships

As the deputy to the Director of Finance, the Financial Controller is a key finance leadership role responsible for the financial integrity of the organisations finances.  Leading on the financial reporting, forecasting and budgeting for the DBF, Coventry Cathedral and Together for Change, this role will ensure compliance with Charity, Company and Ecclesiastical legislation. Main Activities and Duties 

1. Reporting, Budgeting, Financial Management, Accounting processes and systems

• Overall responsibility for the production of the DBF monthly management accounts to budget holders by working day 8. Ensure that monthly reviews with budget holders take place; to monitor financial performance & recommend corrective action to budget holders when needed. Provide training & development opportunities to budget holders.
• Working with the Director of Finance to prepare  financial reports and commentary for the various  diocesan committees.
• Preparation of the annual report and financial statements for the DBF. Ensuring compliance with accounting standards & regulations. Liaise with auditors during the external audit ensuring all reports and supporting documentation are available.
• Develop & manage the annual budget for the DBF; in collaboration with budget holders. Provide financial forecasts & analysis to support strategic decision making.
• Maintain accurate records of all funds, ensuring proper allocation & usage. Preparation & submission of timely & accurate financial reports to donors & budget holders of these funds. Monitor & report on restricted & unrestricted funds.
• Lead change management initiatives to improve financial processes & systems. Identify opportunities for process improvement & implement best practices throughout all three organisations. Engage with stakeholders to ensure successful adoption of changes. Monitor & evaluate the impact of changes on financial operations.
• Implement & maintain robust internal controls. Ensure compliance with financial policies & procedures. Conduct regular reviews and audits of financial processes.
• Oversee the calculation, collection & reporting of Parish Share contributions. Ensure accurate & transparent reporting for the Deanery Share allocations. Communicate with parishes to provide guidance & support on Parish Share matters.

2. Leadership

• To provide leadership and clear direction to the team ensuring appraisals with SMART objectives that form the basis of regular monthly meetings reviewing individual and team performance. 
• Working closely with the Director of Finance providing regular updates on the finances of each of organisations that the finance team supports.
• To attend training courses and events to maintain the professional accountancy qualification and competency to ensure that the post holder is aware of best practice and upcoming developments affecting the DBF, Cathedral and TFC.

The Director of Data and Analytics will be a critical driver in the Centre for Homelessness Impact's mission to end homelessness for good. By leading and developing our data strategy, infrastructure, and capabilities, you will unlock the power of data to inform a decisive shift towards prevention. This role will involve working with partners to harness data from across sectors – housing, social care, health, education, and more – to generate insights that drive evidence-based decision-making, illuminate cost-effective solutions, and fuel innovation in preventing homelessness. WHAT YOU'LL DO

• Lead the Data Strategy: Develop and implement a comprehensive data strategy aligned with the Centre's strategic priorities, including expanding access to evidence and data, fueling collaboration, and enabling lasting change through R&D and through Test & Learn programmes. This strategy will encompass data from various sectors that influence homelessness, with a focus on identifying cost-effective prevention strategies.
• Enhance Data Infrastructure: Work with external partners including in local government, national government, and the third sector to oversee the development and maintenance of robust data infrastructure, systems, and tools to support the collection, storage, processing, and analysis of data related to homelessness and its root causes across relevant sectors, with a view to supporting resource allocation and intervention design.
• Drive Data Analysis and Insights: While you will have direct line management responsibility for an evidence and data lead, with additional support from external associate data analysts as needed, you will also be a hands-on leader, conducting data analysis yourself. You will generate actionable insights and develop data-driven solutions to address homelessness by examining data from various sources, including housing, social care, health, and education, to identify trends, risk factors, and opportunities for cost-effective prevention. You will also collaborate with other colleagues within the Centre for specific projects and initiatives.
• Champion Data-Driven Decision Making: Promote a data-driven culture within the Centre and across all sectors relevant to homelessness prevention, ensuring data driven approaches, including cost-effectiveness analysis, inform programme design, implementation, and evaluation.
• Collaborate closely with the Director of Evidence to ensure alignment between data analysis and research priorities, and to effectively translate data insights into evidence-based practice and policy recommendations as well as contribute to the development of research projects, and disseminate findings to relevant stakeholders
• Foster collaboration and knowledge sharing: Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders across relevant sectors, including researchers, policymakers, and practitioners, to share data, insights, and best practices to advance the field. This will involve building partnerships with organisations and agencies beyond the traditional homelessness sector to access and analyse relevant data, including cost and effectiveness data.

• A data expert: You have a PhD in a relevant discipline including statistics; econometrics; or data science; or relevant work experience in lieu of a PhD.

Leadership

Job Title: Campaign Manager - Better Business Act

Why this role?

In this role you would be responsible for driving forward the Better Business Act campaign, building relationships with stakeholders who could help us achieve this critical change and using learning from the campaign to contribute to the strategic design and development of B Lab UK’s policy and public affairs work.

In this role you will:

• Campaign Development & Management: Lead and execute the Better Business Act (BBA) campaign, set KPIs, track progress, and ensure alignment with B Lab UK’s policy strategy. Oversee BBA communications, manage relationships with spokespeople, and ensure Justice, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (JEDI) principles are embedded.

• Technical Specialist & Relationship Management: Advise senior stakeholders on the BBA, represent it at events, build support among business and policy groups, and manage an events program to advance advocacy.

• Team Management: Line manages the Campaign & Events Coordinator and Public Affairs Officer, providing coaching and ensuring alignment across teams for effective collaboration.

The u3a movement is one of the largest member organisations in the UK with over 400,000 active members. The Third Age Trust is the national charity which supports the 1,000+ u3as.   We provide advice, guidance and training to u3as and their committees, to help them have the greatest impact locally.  We advocate for a positive approach to later life and promote the benefits that come from membership of the u3a movement.

We have an opportunity to join our London based staff team as our Operations Manager. The Operations Manager will play a key role in ensuring the smooth and efficient running of U3A’s office operations. This role will be responsible for the day to day running of the office and be the lead for HR, Data Protection, Health and Safety as well as managing external IT suppliers.

Job Profile

CAFOD’s work in the Catholic community of England and Wales is to inspire and resource Catholics to participate in the Church’s mission to overcome poverty and injustice in partnership with CAFOD. 

The main purpose of this role is to inspire and increase the participation in CAFOD’s work of Catholic parishes, schools and the broader Catholic community within the Nottingham Diocese. This will be accomplished partly by the recruitment and support of a team of committed, inspired and well-resourced volunteers working in parish and school communities to enable and equip Catholics to give, act and pray. The work will also involve meeting gatekeepers, networks and other stakeholders within the diocese to build fruitful and positive relationships.

The Community Participation Co-ordinator (CPC) is part of a regional team working across a group of dioceses and whilst having a primary focus on one diocese, is responsible for the results of the regional team plans in relation to volunteer recruitment and retention and parishion and school participation.

The role will be hybrid (40-60% of time at home and 40-60% based from the volunteer centre) or fully based from CAFOD’s Nottingham Diocese volunteer centre currently in Nottingham city centre, although it is expected that the post holder will be mobile and flexible to meet volunteers, clergy and other stakeholders as required. The post holder will also be meeting with other regional team members as required both virtually and face to face. At times it will be necessary to transport some equipment and resources and to be flexible to work evenings and weekends. 

The role requires a willingness to be adaptable to support the work of the regional team, deploying skills, knowledge and at times activity in other parts of the regional team area. This is likely to require some additional travel (which would be reimbursed by CAFOD). The post also requires weekend and evening work for while time off in lieu (toil) can be claimed.

CPCs are accountable for delivering CAFOD’s annual participation plans locally across England and Wales. As well as growing the number of parishes participating, the plan is also focused on enabling parish communities to expand the breadth of their participation. Through greater numbers and activity of schools volunteers and volunteer co-ordinators, more schools will be visited by a CAFOD volunteer. It is not expected that the post-holder will routinely visit schools but that the vast majority of visits be completed by volunteers. 

The post reports to the Community Participation Manager. 

Key Responsibilities

Delivering participation plans  

• Share accountability for delivery of annual participation plans for the region (a group of dioceses) with a primary focus on one diocese, and for fundraising, education, campaigns, and other targets, as delineated by the participation plan for the region. It is anticipated that the role will have an 80% focus on parish communities and a 20% focus on school communities 

• Contribute to the development and delivery of a regional plan across a number of dioceses in support of the annual participation plans and appropriate for local contexts 

• Achieve targets for increasing parishioner and children & young people participation primarily through recruitment and retention of volunteers and working with gatekeepers 

• Be willing and able to share reports and information around community participation and recruitment, activity, development and retention of volunteers

• Closely monitor parish participation activity

Managing volunteers  

• Be the local volunteer manager in a specific diocese or dioceses 

• Hold the relationship with, and coordinate the work of, a number of volunteers in order to achieve the annual participation plan in the region 

• Contribute to increasing the number and activity of parish and school volunteers and volunteer co-ordinators in line with the regional team plan 

• Contribute to development of volunteering opportunities especially the growth of volunteer leaders 

• Match the offers, skills, experiences and expectations of volunteers with opportunities and needs in relation to CAFOD’s plans for parishioners and children & young people

Managing relationships 

• Build and maintain key relationships including with priests, school staff, academy trusts and others within a diocese as determined in the regional plan. Be point of contact with local Bishop.

• Build and maintain effective working relationships with diocesan communications officers and press and be a point of contact for local broadcast and print media, to increase opportunities for Catholics to hear about CAFOD’s work, working with and through media volunteers where possible.

The Joint Public Issues Team (JPIT) is recruiting to two full time paid internship positions: one focused on Communications (to start as soon as possible) and the other on supporting local churches to build relationships with their MPs (to start in September 2025).

You would be working as part of a small ecumenical team on a diverse range of tasks and initiatives including communications, policy, campaigning and supporter engagement, contributing to the public advocacy and political engagement work of the Baptist, Methodist and United Reformed Churches.

About JPIT 

JPIT is a partnership between the Baptist Union of Great Britain, the Methodist Church and the United Reformed Church, and the Church of Scotland is an associate partner. Its purpose is to help the Churches to work together for peace and justice through listening, learning, praying, speaking and acting on public policy issues. It is a team which brings together around ten staff working across the denominations. In recent years it has focused on issues around poverty, the economy, refugees and migration, the environment, peace and conflict, and politics.

The Internships
