About the role
We have an exciting opportunity for a Maintenance Multi-Skilled Engineer in our Facilities team at St Joseph’s Hospice. We are looking for someone who has experience in plumbing, mechanical and electrical working in a palliative care/clinical environment.
The role will provide support to the team and carry out repairs to mechanical and plumbing services and equipment, e.g. replacement of filters in ventilation systems, check tensions of drive belts, record details of works, materials and time on a docket or our helpdesk system. The role will also support with programmed planned maintenance works to mechanical and plumbing services such as checking temperature of water taps and outlets, descaling showerheads, following prescribed instructions to defined standards, record actions and/or findings using a formal written report system and provide information to the Head of Facilities on replacement parts and spares to enable orders to be raised.
About you
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Either BTEC National Certificate (HNC Electronic Engineering). Or Completion of at least 4yr apprenticeship of Practical and Theoretical Training as an Electronic Technician or equivalent
- Good knowledge of plumbing materials sufficient to be able to maintain and discuss the maintenance needs of water systems i.e. pump and pipe sizes and their uses
- Good knowledge on health and Safety risk assessment and relevant Health and Safety legislation.

Job Description
Strategy and planning
- Work with the Head of Advice to develop and deliver an operational plan to support delivery of the strategic priorities, which is measured, monitored and reported up to the CEO and Board of Trustees.
- Co-ordinate activities, procedures and systems so as to promote the common policies and practices with the appropriate advice services.
- Ensure that the strategy is accessible to and understood by all staff and volunteers and they know the role they play in achieving our goals.
Risk management and compliance
- Regularly review the risks to which the charity is exposed to relating to Advice Services and provide assurance that systems or procedures are in effective operation to manage those risks.
- Ensure the use of systems in place to meet the requirements of all applicable regulatory bodies relating to the Advice Service Delivery.
- Working with the rest of the management team ensures that good data protection practices are embedded in our day-to-day operations.
- Assess requests made in relation to GDPR.
People management and development
- Support team members in continuous learning that will equip and develop people to deliver outstanding advice delivery. Responsibility for the delivery of the training and development plan for the Advice Services Department including, sourcing, delivering, evaluating and maintaining records.

Operational performance management
- Maintain, develop and monitor effective and relevant performance indicators and management processes, with particular emphasis on the application of customer insight data and feedback on complaints.
- In line with the Advice Quality Standard, work with the Head of Advice and the other Advice Quality and Operations Managers to ensure that staff and volunteers have adequate supervision and that advisers have access to support at all times when delivering advice to clients.
- Ensuring quality - actively supporting the quality of advice by guiding the team to information sources, checking that all aspects of a client's situation have been considered, checking that follow up work is progressed, and that research and campaigns issues are identified.
- Monitor the quality of advice given to clients to ensure that standards meet Citizens Advice requirements. Completing Case Checking, QAA Audits and independent file reviews (IFR) to ensure quality assurance at a whole service level. Using the insights to further develop the services to clients and skills of advisers.
- Maintain and develop standards of service delivery.
- Take part in internal consistency exercises at least quarterly.

- Client Experience: Use our written process for dealing with complaints, ensuring that regulatory requirements are met (for debt and money advice complaints) to ensure Complaints are handled effectively and data is used to drive improvements where appropriate.

- Implementing adult and child safeguarding policies and training staff and volunteers how to identify and deal with safeguarding concerns.
- Dealing with a conflict of interest and ensuring our service takes the right action to protect the client, our staff and volunteers and the service.
Research and Campaigns
- Ensure that staff and volunteers consistently and accurately generate Advice Issue Codes (AICs), evidence forms and profile data and participate in the Network Panel Surveys

Key Responsibilities
Oversight of the Spear Programme
Spear Foundation is a 4-week initial phase, consisting of 2 group sessions plus a 1:1 with each trainee per week, in which we coach young people around skills and mindsets to support them in returning to work or education, and equip them with the skills to stay there.
- Prepare and coach group and 1-1 sessions with the Spear Assistant Coach.
- Oversee all aspects of the programme coordination and delivery.
- Ensure the programme is delivered in line with agreed targets, and report to Resurgo and the church on enrolment, retention and completion of Spear Trainees, as well as their ongoing progress.
Partnership liaison and relationship management
- Build and implement a strategy for developing and maintaining relationships with local referral partners to build the profile of the Spear programme within Ipswich and ensure the young people who would benefit from the programme are able to access it.
- Steward relationships with young people after initial point of contact, to encourage enrolment and ensure a full cohort is enrolled for each programme.
Line management and training
- Manage the Spear Assistant Coach, using a coaching approach to invest in their growth and development.
- Work with and be managed by River Church staff locally, and by a Church Partnerships Manager from Resurgo on a national level, to ensure the flourishing of the Spear centre, its team and young people, and to ensure the fulfilment of our shared mission in Ipswich.

Supporting River Church’s mission and ministry
- Establish strong relationships with key people at the church to ensure the engagement of church members and to build a network of supporters for the Spear programme, though it is not a requirement of the role for the successful candidate to join River Church as their worshipping community if they are already part of another local church
- Work with the Head of Operations and the Fundraising Assistant to prepare grant funding applications for Spear Ipswich, and provide timely grant reporting.

Responsibilities and Person Specification:
The External Training Manager will work with internal subject matter experts to develop and implement our programme of external training which is aimed at building knowledge of older people’s options when experiencing financial hardship.
Our training is aimed at professionals and trusted intermediaries working in the commercial, statutory and not for profit sectors. Our ambition is for everyone who works with older people to know what older people may be entitled to, how to support them to claim and where to get further help.
You should have extensive experience of designing and delivering training to a range of audiences, along with experience of developing resources and of training evaluation. Knowledge of how to ensure training is inclusive and accessible, along with excellent communication and relationship building skills is essential. Prior knowledge of financial hardship topics relating to older people is not required, as you will be working with subject matter experts.

The Governance and Risk Officer (GRO) will provide support to the Head of Governance & Risk by providing administrative and organisational support in all areas of governance and risk by implementing and maintaining risk assurance activities, including the corporate risk registers, policy management, contract review and internal audit delivery.
The GRO will aid in the creation of an assurance function to manage governance, risk and adherence to policies and procedures, and will also support with the administration of the charity’s committees, both at executive and trustee level.

Key Responsibilities:
Policy:
- The post holder will develop and drive proactive policy and public affairs projects and campaigns in consultation with the Head of Policy, Public Affairs and Research and the wider team.
- They will manage and develop evidence-based policy briefings and reports to publication standard for internal and external audiences, including colleagues, politicians, and journalists.
- The Policy and Public Affairs Manager will manage and develop responses to consultations, calls for evidence, and inquiries within the charity's area of expertise.
- They will manage and develop the analysis of relevant debates, reports, statistical releases, select committee inquiries, and parliamentary questions, providing updates, briefings, and advice to colleagues as appropriate.
- The role involves managing and producing the analysis and distribution of key statistics and research from internal and external data sources relevant to the charity’s policy aims, working collaboratively with the wider directorate.
- The post holder will work closely with frontline staff and service users to ensure the charity’s policy positions and public affairs priorities are informed by their needs and experiences, collaborating with the wider team to support staff and service user policy engagement.
Public Affairs/Influencing:
- The Policy and Public Affairs Manager will develop and implement strategic influencing plans aligned with the charity’s policy priorities.

- The post holder will represent the charity at meetings with key stakeholders and sector partners.

Campaigns:

Person Specification:
- The ideal candidate will have experience in developing policy positions, influencing policy, and achieving change within a relevant social or criminal justice area.
- They should possess experience of working at a strategic level across a wide range of organisations, including government departments, local authorities, and relevant agencies.
- Experience in identifying issues that require policy change and developing influencing strategies and campaigns to achieve change is essential.
- The candidate should have experience in writing briefings for parliamentarians, officials, and colleagues, and drafting submissions to official consultations and inquiries.
- Experience in underpinning public campaigning with lobbying and media activity is desirable.
- The role is subject to a Basic Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) check.
