Job Description
Job Title
· Deputy Centre Manager (The Junction Youth Centre, High Wycombe)
Position in the Organisation
· Reports To: Centre Manager
· Responsible For: Youth Workers and freelance staff
· Working hours: The centre is open 7 days a week 4-9pm. Working hours are 1:45-9pm on a two-week rotation (4 days one week and 6 the following). This post includes regular weekend work.
· Working With: Other members of the Action4Youth team including the High Wycombe Mentor, other programme staff, schools, key partners including other local youth organisations, Buckinghamshire Council, Thames Valley Police and many more.
Main Purpose and Scope of the Role
This role will assist with the day-to-day management of the centre and lead a small team of staff, including Youth Workers and some freelancers. The Deputy Centre Manager will be working in partnership with the Centre Manager to ensure the safe running of the centre and to deliver youth work directly. This role will liaise closely with the Centre Manager in order to make sure youth provision is effective and inclusive for all young people.
This role will be based in a multi service drop-in centre in High Wycombe for young people aged 12 – 18 years (up to 25 with SEND). The service will offer a range of sessions and activities all under one roof, seven days a week, and provides specialist support to those who are vulnerable.
The centre provides support in the following areas;
1. Crisis support; a drop-in service operating seven days a week where young people can come in and access specialist support and signposting in the below areas from trained staff.
· Homelessness
· Sexual health/unplanned pregnancy/sexual identity
· Family breakdown
· Crime
· Violence
· Bullying
· Substance misuse
· Relationship breakdown
2. A programme of mentoring to support young people on a 1:1 basis.
3. Health and wellbeing; a timetable of weekly activities focussing on positive mental and physical wellbeing.
· Nutrition and cooking - A weekly ‘cook along’ session will be available for young people to participate in where they learn the basics of cooking healthy and cheap meals.
· A timetable of fitness sessions including boxing and MMA sessions.
· A fortnightly mental wellbeing session which will focus on topics such as positive body image, social media, mental resilience, stress management, positive relationships etc.
4. A Youth Space for socialising and leisure activities;
· Café area
· Pool table, table football, table tennis, gaming consoles
· Weekly homework/ study club providing a quiet space where young people can get support on any schoolwork
· Weekly SEND Youth Group- open to young people with additional needs only who can come to socialise and participate in sessions on life skills
Duties and Key Responsibilities
- Register young people on arrival at the centre
- Keep the centre clean and tidy and be responsible for opening/ locking up the centre
- Assist with the overall smooth running of the centre and all its activity strands
- Work closely with library staff, Eden security and other key partners
- Be the lead staff member, running the Youth Centre, when the Centre Manager is not on shift
- Attend Action4Youth team meetings (sometimes outside of working hours) and be a positive link between The Junction and the other Action4Youth sites
- Communicate effectively with all core staff, freelancers and partners to ensure the centre is running safely and effectively and always be a positive role model
- Assess the needs of young people to correctly plan and deliver sessions related to areas such as health, fitness, smoking, drugs, gangs, violence, relationships and bullying
- Set up and run regular group youth work sessions in line with the key areas listed above
- Develop a positive rapport with young people based on respect and trust, ensuring the youth centre is a safe and welcoming place
- Establish boundaries and challenge inappropriate behaviour
- Mentor, coach and support individual young people
- Work in partnership with families and other key people in the young person's life, as well as with professionals from other organisations such as social care, health, police, education, youth offending teams and local authorities, in order to build a strong support network
- Manage, support and mentor staff, including youth workers and placement students
- Undertake administrative tasks relating to the centre’s efficient running, maintain effective recording systems and respond to queries
- Provide reports for funders and to SMT- including attendee numbers, case studies and other KPI’s as per funding applications.
- Promote the services of The Junction and take the lead in organising recruitment events at local schools. These may be outside the regular working hours, and you will need to claim time back in lieu.
- Attend local networking meetings to represent Action4Youth and promote the services of The Junction
- Work collaboratively with local community organisations to offer the best services to young people
- Always Act as an Ambassador for Action4Youth.

Skills, Experience and Knowledge
- Previous work experience in the youth, education or community sector
- Be able to lead, manage and support a small team
- Excellent communication skills, including being able to positively engage with young people from a wide range of backgrounds and actively involve them in the decision making process.
- Confident user of IT, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint
- Experience of using a CRM system (desirable)
- A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle (desirable)
- Practical experience of designing and delivering presentations to a varied audience (desirable)

We’re a small, creative and fast-growing charity that was established from inside The Economist in 2012. We support children, aged 10 to 16, from under-served backgrounds to develop essential skills for the modern world. Our programme, Topical Talk, brings about these discussions in four ways:
- We create world-class teaching resources for classroom discussions about global news stories

Our ambitions
We are at an exciting point in our trajectory. THE ROLE
We’re looking for a qualified teacher or ex-teacher who is excited to play a hands-on role in our team, training and building relationships with Topical Talk teachers in the UK and internationally.
You’ll be responsible, alongside our Teacher Engagement and Development Lead, for supporting teachers to get the most from Topical Talk programmes. You’ll do this by building strong relationships with a range of individual teachers, school groups (for example multi-academy trusts) and organisations. You'll be confident communicating with and motivating teachers, and delivering inspiring teacher training in a range of settings in the UK and internationally. You’ll also work directly with 10- to 16-year-old students on a regular basis, to model lessons to teachers, deliver workshops and facilitate online discussions.
From time to time you will work with our content team to give input into the creation of interactive lessons on news topics. You’ll share ideas for class activities or topics, join idea-generation and feedback sessions, and occasionally draft lessons yourself.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Design and deliver teacher training and support to maximise impact of Topical Talk (40%)
- Work with the Teacher Engagement and Development Lead to design and deliver online and in-person teacher training that supports and inspires teachers to run Topical Talk lessons regularly
- Visit schools to observe, and occasionally teach, Topical Talk lessons
- Collect data, such as case studies and progress reports, to help evaluate the impact of Topical Talk
- Test and evaluate different approaches to teacher support in order to continually improve how we work with teachers
Engage students with Topical Talk lessons (30%)
- Deliver inspiring workshops and lessons about the news to young people aged 10 to 16 globally
- Co-plan and present Live Lessons to a global audience
- Facilitate online discussions between young people during Topical Talk Festivals
- Collaborate with the content team to share ideas, give feedback and occasionally draft lessons about the news
Build and nurture effective relationships with teachers, school groups and organisations (30%)
- Build strong relationships with teachers, administrators, local education authorities, school districts or multi-academy trusts, to make Topical Talk a long-term success in the schools
- Monitor and evaluate the impact of Topical Talk in depth in these schools or communities, using evidence to recommend programme-wide changes
- Work with the Head of Marketing and Teacher Engagement Development Lead to recruit schools to participate in Topical Talk Festival, liaising with teachers and persistently following up as needed

Job purpose

What the role looks like
The Financial Education Coordinator will be responsible for recruiting and onboarding schools to embed our free financial education resources into primary school classrooms. You will be able to generate enthusiasm for financial education, as well as develop strong relationships with schools and other project collaborators. You will achieve this by proactively researching, networking, and making connections with schools in London and the Southeast region. Once they have registered, you will then train the teachers and school staff on how to incorporate our resources flexibly into their classrooms. The Financial Education Delivery Coordinator will need to work flexibly with each school to best meet their needs, according to our policies and guidelines. Reporting the progress of the various programmes is a key part of the role and the ability to collate data, identify risks, and meet deadlines is crucial.
As a part of the broader Programmes and Innovation department, this role is a creative opportunity to develop new ideas and ways of delivering financial literacy to primary schools. Under the management of the Director of Client Services to provide specialist, evidence-based trauma therapy to children and young people seeking help from ASSIST throughout Northamptonshire.Therapy will be provided in an age appropriate manner.
ASSIST is a member of the United Kingdom Psychological Trauma Society and the European Society for Traumatic Stress Studies.All ASSIST specialist therapists are expected to work according to evidence based practice models (currently C.B.T. and E.M.D.R.), and in accordance with ethical practice.
Key Tasks
1.To provide specialist evidence-based trauma therapy in an age appropriate manner, to include play and art therapy to children and young people across Northamptonshire seeking help from ASSIST.
2.To deliver robust assessment and formulation measures, ensuring effective and appropriate interventions are delivered.
3.To deliver client services directly, and to receive appropriate clinical supervision accordingly.

8.To maintain confidentiality and respect when dealing with client information.

10.To assist in the daily administration of the ASSIST Clinical service, including the support systems underpinning this service.

Purpose of the role

Responsibilities
Strategic Development
- Identify, propose and lead strategic development opportunities for the organisation. Conduct sector research to ensure that the Foundation’s strategy is data and environment-informed. Keep abreast of political developments in relation to MAT growth and development and investigate emerging opportunities in the field. Produce feasibility studies for prospective longer-term growth and development options in line with the overall Foundation Strategy.
- Develop and maintain an organisational analysis, including undertaking and presenting research on potential joiner schools and strategic partners, such as for joint ventures and new initiatives. Champion the Foundation Office’s adoption of Microsoft Viva Goals and the Objectives and Key Results (OKR) framework across various leadership groups, leveraging the platform as a tool for collaboration and strategic planning. This includes the delivery of training workshops and either leading or overseeing regular check-ins. Monitor and track major projects across the Foundation, supporting colleagues where required with project management oversight, visibility of key activity and effective resource allocation. Roll out and then embed the new major projects approval process across Academy Trust schools, ensuring consistent usage of the documentation and a commitment to continuous improvements. Maintain an engagement plan designed to attract and secure new joiner schools and strategic partners. Review and refine joiner school and strategic partner criteria on an ongoing basis in response to internal and external drivers. In collaboration with the External Relations Department, develop marketing and communications collateral linked to both the departmental and growth strategy.
Project Management and Reporting
- Have oversight of and manage the methodology, quality assurance and compliance of major organisational projects, ensuring that these projects are well-planned and well-executed, with appropriate approval, resourcing and evaluation. With the support of others, embed effective reporting processes across the organisation so that the Foundation Executive Committee and governance Groups, Committees and Boards benefit from a comprehensive schedule of reported information.
Growth Projects
- Conduct growth research with a focus on the current educational and political climate, looking to the Department of Education and West Midlands Regional Directorate for changes and updates to relevant policy. In the event of an academy conversion, transfer, or merger, the postholder would also undertake the following duties: Convene and manage a project group comprised of representatives from the school, the Academy Trust and Birmingham City Council if appropriate. Manage all project documentation (including a comprehensive and regularly updated project plan, a register of risks and issues, an action tracker, project meeting notes, and reports to Trustees). Lead a thorough due diligence process. Support the incoming school to run a consultation process. Liaise with the Academy Trust’s legal advisers, Birmingham City Council, the DfE and other parties to bring about the completion of necessary land transfers, funding agreements, commercial transfer agreements and any required supplementary agreements. Manage the school’s integration into the Academy Trust’s operating model, ensuring that operational leads from relevant departments are kept informed of the project’s progress and issues and deliver any integration requirements. Act as a point of contact and support for operational leads, presenting issues and information arising from the due diligence process advising where actions are required. Develop and manage conversion budgets in collaboration with the Finance Department. Report to the appropriate board on project progress and risk mitigation.
2026 Foundation Strategy
- Prepare for the next iteration of the Foundation Strategy, supporting the Chief Executive Officer and Director of Strategic Management to research, write, communicate, refine, and then implement the strategy.
Leadership and Management
- Deputise for the Director of Strategic Management. Be accountable for the achievement of relevant objectives and associated key performance indicators set from the Foundation Strategy. As appropriate, represent the Foundation’s and Academy Trust’s interests in relevant internal and external fora. About the role
This is an exciting opportunity to work with Sustrans to engage and empower schools and the local community of South Tyneside, to deliver school streets and identify ways in which their neighbourhoods can be made better places for all.

About the opportunity
Critical to our mission, we are looking to recruit a South West and South East Programme Manager to be responsible for three geographical areas and the schools within them, and to support further geographical expansion. You will oversee your region’s Action Tutoring programmes, liaising with our partner schools and developing new school partnerships, whilst supporting your team of Programme Coordinators to engage pupils and support them to build relationships and retain a strong pool of volunteer tutors.
As a Programme Manager, you will line manage Programme Coordinators to ensure they effectively manage their caseload of schools, whilst driving the quality of programmes and ensuring that the delivery of programmes meets organisational KPIs. This role will take a lead on new school recruitment, regularly pitching to Senior Leaders within schools and managing school partnerships within your region to ensure Action Tutoring’s growth targets are met. Additionally, you will contribute to the wider leadership of the Action Tutoring programme team, lead on programme-specific projects to support the programme department's priorities and will be expected to support the wider learning and development needs of the Programme Coordinator team.
This position would suit someone who enjoys working with people who have a frontline role, gets energy from pitching to schools and wants to increase their management experience in an exciting and rapidly developing charity. The successful candidate should be able to manage their own workload to a high standard as well as support others, have excellent attention to detail, be adaptable, relational and used to problem-solving and be able to work well with a range of stakeholders and be confident carrying out administrative tasks to support programme delivery.

·Ensuring that the Programme Coordinator team accurately collects and records vital data for impact reporting purposes, through confident use of Action Tutoring’s database, processes and systems.
· Lead on reviewing and improving programme delivery in the South West and South East through regular visits to schools and programmes. Using data to reliably assess programme performance and engaging with quality assurance processes to drive impact.
· Develop and strengthen relationships with key stakeholders in Action Tutoring’s partner schools in the South West and South East, including members of the Senior Leadership Team, ensuring strong retention of school partnerships each academic year.
· Take a lead, with support from others in Action Tutoring, on networking in the South West and South East. This could include connecting and attending events with other charities, universities and other organisations to build Action Tutoring’s presence locally.
· Work closely with the Marketing, Communication and Engagement teams to establish and maintain volunteer recruitment opportunities and channels in the South West and South East.
· Develop strategies, meet with new leads and attend events to ensure a sufficient supply of high- quality tutors for your region, effectively managing your tutor pool and signing tutors up to programmes.

Qualifications criteria:
· A*-C in maths and English at GCSE (or equivalent experience).
· Right to work in the UK.

· Knowledge of the education sector, schools, young people or providing interventions to improve outcomes.
· Able to manage and lead others, leading by example; line management experience would be an advantage or the ability to demonstrate a strong understanding and evidence of the qualities that make for effective line management.
· Able to work independently and use initiative in a range of situations. You will need to be able to effectively organise your own time and be confident in working autonomously.
· Able to develop strong relationships with a variety of stakeholders. This includes the ability to build and manage relationships with stakeholders you may not see regularly. You will need to be able to adapt your communication style to different audiences and uphold Action Tutoring’s high standards of professionalism.
· Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to pitch to individuals or groups of school leaders. Confidently articulating and advocating Action Tutoring’s mission to wider audiences.
· Able to meet deadlines and undertake administration. You will be responsible for maintaining accurate and timely records of all aspects of Action Tutoring’s work for your area and, where needed, support your Programme Coordinator to achieve this.
· Able to manage competing priorities and prioritising, and able to adapt and problem solve to support the needs of frontline staff.
· Able to work under pressure to ensure deadlines and targets are met.
· Computer literate, competent using Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
· Adaptable and open to learning. Action Tutoring is a relatively young organisation and is constantly changing – the Programme Manager will need to be willing to adapt and to grow and develop with the organisation, as well as taking a lead on suggesting changes and driving programme improvement.
· Committed to ensuring young people from all backgrounds reach a meaningful level of academic attainment. The Programme Manager role is critical to enabling Action Tutoring to deliver on its mission and you will need to be passionate about this.

Engaging increasing numbers of schools in ACN’s Membership programme, fundraising initiatives, and developing new initiatives and resources working strategically with the Community Fundraiser in Scotland.
You will also be providing support for organised ACN events in Scotland, as well as taking responsibility for running tailored events.
Reporting to the Manager of Operations in Scotland this post will provide key logistical and administrative support. The Youth & Events Co-ordinator in Scotland will contribute to the objectives set out in Aid to the Church in Need (ACN) UK’s overall strategic plan, focusing on agreed aspects of the fundraising and marketing strategy, which contribute to the effective fundraising and awareness raising and ACN’s core aim of providing more aid to the Church in need.
Key areas of responsibility include:
Reach out to Scottish primary and secondary schools and youth settings in the central area of Scotland.
Develop and facilitate initiatives/programmes and resources to be offered to the above groups within a given diocese or throughout the Scottish dioceses as well as sharing resources to develop organisation-wide initiatives.
Develop and deliver themed presentations and workshops; organise mailings to contact targeted groups/areas. Follow this up with appointments
Administratively responsible for all ACN events in Scotland, in close cooperation with the Manager of Operations in Scotland, the Community Fundraiser for Scotland, Administrative Support in the Scottish Office and the Fundraising and Marketing Team. Responsible for promoting events via social media posts leading up to and during events. Using social media after events to recognise success and encourage future engagement.
