About You

· You will be an excellent communicator liaising effectively with key stakeholders including the multi-disciplinary and health professionals, family carers and people we support.
· You will have experience of staff management and the ability to lead, motivate and develop a large team, ensuring staff are appropriately trained. You will be visible in the service and strive to model best practice and inspire support workers.
· You will be able to think creatively and be adaptable in approaches, with experience of implementing emergency management guidance to support staff.
· Experience of carrying out needs assessments and creating support and risk management plans for people with behaviours of concern. And be committed to include the person, and their circle of support at all times.

Vision for the role
Migrant Democracy Project (MDP) envisions a society where all migrants at home in the UK hold collective, political power to shape a society rooted in justice, freedom, and solidarity.
We are looking for a full-time Community Organiser to organise first-generation migrants in the UK towards migrant justice through electoral and community organising. The organiser’s work will connect across 3 streams: voter registration; advocacy & campaigns; and political empowerment.
Whether it’s engaging migrants at a voter registration stall, supporting migrant communities to organise in the electoral space, or strengthening a local campaign - the lived experience of first generation migrants is at the heart of all our activities.
We are looking for an experienced organiser who is passionate about migrants’ rights and democratic reform to start working as soon as possible.
Who funds the role?
The role is funded by a grant from the Esmee Fairbairn Foundation.
Contract
This is a fixed term contract, 2 years (with the possibility of extension depending on future grants), £32,000 pro rata, with an immediate start, including NI and 3% employer pension contribution.
We are looking for an organiser who can work full-time hours flexibly, including evening and weekend time where events require. When work is carried out by any Migrant Democracy Project employee outside normal working hours, time off in lieu is applied.
Location
Migrant Democracy Project does not have a physical office. The Organiser will work flexibly from home on administrative tasks and be expected to work in-person when necessary to deliver voter registration, training, informative, advocacy and campaign activities, as well as representing MDP at relevant events.
Responsibilities

Build and implement an organising strategy for MDP in collaboration with members of our community.

Identify and lead on outreach activities and events with first-generation migrant communities where there is scope for building power in their local areas.

Identify, train, and support community leaders to participate and shape MDP’s Our Home Our Vote campaign for the extension of the right to vote.

Support the delivery of our MPower - Community Organising Programme training and empowering migrant communities to best achieve their campaign aims by engaging in UK democracy and politics.

Support the electoral prospects of MDP leaders and the organising scope in their communities.

Manage a stakeholder network including local and national migrants’ rights groups and keeping a contact database.

Lead on the co-production and dissemination of physical and digital materials on democratic rights and participation, such as production of leaflets and infographics in different languages and with different purposes.

Collect and produce content for social media following activities delivered with the community.

Keep track of engagement and contribute reports for our projects’ evaluation.
Qualifications
We are looking for a proactive and confident organiser with the following essential skills:

This role provides support to LGBTQ+ people who have experienced domestic abuse and are living in safe accommodation in the community. The goal is to help people prepare for independent living in their own tenancies. The Resettlement Worker will meet with each resident to assess their needs and agree goals which will help them achieve independence. The Resettlement Worker then puts together a support plan and meets regularly with service users to provide support, challenge and encouragement as they make their journey.
Key Responsibilities
• To provide a high quality, flexible and responsive support service to LGBTQ+ people who have experienced domestic abuse, supporting them towards independent living or suitable alternative housing through the provision of 1-1 support sessions and group work.
• To assess the individual needs of each person and provide a bespoke support plan.
• To ensure that effective service user participation mechanisms are in place.
• To ensure a high level of customer care and practice at all times.
• To develop links with relevant external agencies.
Main Duties of the Post
Support Sessions
• To give holistic support to LGBTQ+ people accessing our domestic abuse resettlement service and to provide proactive support to these service users who are sometimes hard to engage.
• To meet face to face with service users regularly to provide structured support, in relation to LGBTQ+ and Housing specific issues, such as gender identity pathways, mental health services, health issues, safeguarding, liaising with the professional network.
• To work with LGBTQ+ people to develop and review individual support plans and risk assessments.
• To liaise with other service providers ensuring service users receive the necessary support to sustain their accommodation, acquire relevant independent living skills, maintain or improve positive physical and mental health and access into meaningful occupation of their time.
Financial Support
• To assist service users in maximising and managing their income including universal credit, ESA, PIP and Housing Benefit.
Semi-independent Living Support
• To work with service users to enable them to develop the life and social skills necessary to sustain their accommodation and prepare them for independent living.
• To assess individual service user’s suitability for independent accommodation.
• To act quickly to manage incidents and to advise, support and assist service users unable to maintain supported accommodation into more appropriate housing options.
Resettlement
• To support service users in the completion of application forms necessary to support move-on housing, including the private rented sector.
• To ensure that all service users are provided with information about local services whilst in safe accommodation and during their move on.
• To ensure all service users are fully aware of their rights and responsibilities in their home.
• To work with housing providers, both public and private, to negotiate move on options.
Groupwork, Consultation and Participation
• To work as part of a team in developing user participation.
• To identify and develop appropriate and flexible processes for consulting with our service users, via social media platforms, newsletters, events and workshops.
• To devise innovative and creative ways of involving LGBTQ+ people in the running of the service with an independent approach.

On a day-to-day basis you will have responsibility for the smooth running of the home-based pet operations, and the overall responsibility, as a subject matter expert, for practical animal handling and assessment so that pets are prepared for adoption in the quickest amount of time. About you:
You will be accountable for achieving pet related targets while ensuring that your team of Pet Welfare Assistants deliver a high level of animal welfare, adhering to quality measures and national processes within their case management.
Managing and motivating your team is a key aspect of this role as this will enable the Centre to deliver high-quality home-based pet care services and provide great development opportunities for those you manage.
This is a full-time role working 37.5 hours per week on a rota which includes weekends and bank holidays.
You will be an excellent manager of people, having skills which are finely honed by working in a similar, animal related environment with expert knowledge and application of pet welfare and care.
As an accomplished, positive, and innovative manager, you will know how to inspire, motivate, and drive continuous improvement. You will be able to lead a team of Pet Care Specialists, developing and empowering them through effective management and coaching.
With your excellent communication skills, you will have the ability to adapt your approach to suit different audiences. As there are always many ‘plates spinning,’ you will be naturally calm and organised, and be prepared to make decisions in a high-pressure environment.
You will bring strong analytical skills and have the ability to rigorously monitor, assess and evaluate in order to deliver improvements. You will not ‘rest on your laurels,’ you will have an appetite to continually improve onsite facilities and services, ensuring your team and others involved are engaged.

About the role and services:
Multiple Disadvantage and Complex Needs: These services provide accommodation and support to people who are moving from rough sleeping and who have needs relating to their mental and physical health, their substance addiction, offending behaviour and mental health. Often at the point of referral, a client’s needs have not been met by any of the services they may require. Part of our role is building the trusting relationships required to put the necessary support in place. Understandably, therefore, these services operate in challenging environments and require resilient and compassionate staff.
Young Peoples' Services: These services are dedicated to providing support to young people, specifically in relation to leaving care, offending behaviour, gang affiliation, complex mental health and anti-social behaviour. We work within a strengths and recovery framework embedded within a trauma informed approach to ensure client needs and aspirations are at the centre of the support planning process. Working in these services would mean overseeing the support and development of the young person’s needs and aspirations. The postholder will hold a caseload of complex cases and will be responsible for supporting the team to manage complex cases. You will guide and signpost the young person to the relevant statutory and non-statutory services and will be key in motivating and coaching the young person to develop independent living skills.
Floating Support Services: Focussed on fostering independence and empowering your clients, we work to support individuals to sustain their tenancy, enhance their wellbeing, build resilience, and achieve their goals and aspirations. Whether assisting with housing issues, addressing mental health concerns, or supporting the development of daily living skills, the primary goal is to enable clients to navigate challenges and lead fulfilling lives. All work undertaken will be in line with planned support, making sure that clients are actively involved and that the support offered is full and holistic. We are looking to recruit permanent staff with these qualities to provide SHP’s clients with consistent support in line with SHP’s values, delivery model, policies and procedures and support planning tools.
As a member of the Peripatetic Senior Practitioner Team, you will move between services and will generally cover a rota ‘line’ until we recruit to the vacancy that the worker is covering, providing interim supervisory support to staff teams as directed by the Team/Service manager. About you:
- A high-level understanding and ability to manage the range of issues involved in the delivery of quality services to clients who may be at risk and who have complex mental health needs.

Founded in 2007, KHULA Education is an award-winning South African NGO working in partnership with rural schools and underserved communities in deep rural South Africa to ensure children and youth can access a quality education and economic opportunity.
Over the past 17 years, KHULA has transformed schools that were previously failing into schools that compete at the national level; supported hundreds of young people to access tertiary education opportunities; and helped hundreds more on the path to employment. Each year, we support over 6,500 children, youth and more than 300 teachers.
About the Role
KHULA Education is seeking an experienced and dynamic fundraising leader to lead KHULA’s fundraising and communication efforts in the UK and South Africa. The postholder will join us at an exciting time and help us to continue our growth trajectory which has seen our annual budget increase from £250,000 to £1 million in the past several years. Supported by the South Africa based CEO, and working closely with the UK Board of Trustees, the postholder will be joined by a new Fundraising Officer who you will line manage.
We’re looking for an entrepreneurial individual with strategic vision who will play an active part in developing KHULA’s future fundraising strategy. 70% of the role is focused on fundraising directly for our work, 30% on managing KHULA’s communications including donor newsletters and social media content (this may evolve with the recruitment of an Officer).
Key Responsibilities
- Steward, retain and grow the support of our existing donor portfolio: KHULA has an existing portfolio of donors including trusts, foundations, corporates, major donors, individual and regular givers, the majority of whom are based in the UK or South Africa. The post holder is responsible for managing these relationships, including bespoke reporting for trusts and major donors, leading donor meetings and involving our Board and CEO as appropriate.
- Donor prospecting and new business: researching and generating new donor leads as well as acting on opportunities provided by our Board and others, converting prospects into supporters of our programmes.
- External communications: creating our quarterly e-newsletter to a database of ~2,000 supporters, managing our social media channels and the Annual Report, in addition to other ad hoc external communications.
- Fundraising innovation: leading on innovation in our fundraising approach, including creative campaigns to increase donations/recruit lapsed donors, developing products and offerings whilst considering cost effectiveness and ROI. Of particular interest is how to harness the giving potential of guests who are exposed to KHULA Education’s work when they visit Fugitives’ Drift Lodge in Rorke’s Drift.
- Financial management and admin: maintaining our donor database, working with the CEO to prepare our annual budget and fundraising forecasts.
Person Specification
Ideally you’ll have held a role with a similar scope of responsibilities around fundraising and communications, however you don’t need to have held a director level role before. Experience in a smaller charity and team is beneficial as you’ll need to be comfortable with both the strategic development side and inputting into wider planning, as well as being a leader who is willing to role up your sleeves and ‘do’.
We are particularly interested to hear from candidates who demonstrate most/all of the following attributes:
- A proven track record of personally delivering income of at least £1 million per year, including new business
- Experience in a fundraising leadership role and confidence in working alongside and advising at board level
- Experience in successfully fundraising from trusts, foundations, major donors and corporates, with experience in other areas (events, legacies etc.) also welcome
- Excellent proposal and donor communication writing skills (written samples of previous work will be requested)
- Self-motivated and able to work autonomously with a largely virtual team
- Comfortable acting in the capacity of charity ambassador, establishing new relationships and identifying new funding opportunities
