About the role:

About You

We are looking for an innovative and enthusiastic individual who is passionate about improving students’ outcomes in literacy, and excited about revealing the patterns in English vocabulary to the next generation of students.

Position: Education Programmes Lead

The Role  

Vocabulous is an innovative online resource to aid targeted and explicit vocabulary teaching in Key Stage 2 and 3 English lessons. We are looking for a part-time member of staff to lead our education programmes. This will involve talking to new schools about using the site, working with schools to support them to implement Vocabulous in lessons and running regional training programmes to build networks of schools that are confidently and consistently teaching Latin and Greek roots.  

The other aspect of the role is to contribute to the development of the new KS2 and KS3 curricula. This will involve designing aspects of the new programmes, writing questions and resources, and planning changes in response to school feedback. Over the next couple of years, the programme is going to be split into a KS2 site and a KS3 site, with the KS2 site being launched in September 2025. 

We are a small organisation with a social purpose, so we are looking for someone who is excited about the job description, but who is also interested in learning more about all aspects of running an education start-up and keen to support Vocabulous’ strategy and growth beyond their job role.  
 

Key responsibilities include: 

Training and School Partnerships  

• Effectively represent and promote Vocabulous to school leaders, teachers and other stakeholders.  

• Ensure a smooth initial launch of Vocabulous in every school. 

• Organise and conduct online training for schools.

• Oversee the running of in-person regional training programmes, such as the existing North East Programme. 

• Recruit schools to participate in new programmes in target regions of the North West and Yorkshire. 

• Make visits to schools to provide on-going professional learning and support to teachers throughout the year.

• Make changes to the curriculum and resources based on feedback from schools.

We have an exciting opening for someone to join our team as the Head of our Campaigns By You (CBY) team. We need a campaigns expert who understands politics, digital campaigning, platform management, partnership working and how to win both national and local grass roots campaigns.

The Head of Campaigns By You leads the CBY department, crafting plans and supporting the team to run impactful national and local campaigns launched by supporters and partner organisations, which aim to shape the country to be fair, respectful and sustainable. This role oversees the development, outreach and growth of our CBY platform to ensure that we’re giving the best possible support to petition starters and attracting a growing number of petition starters and partner organisations who share our values.

The Head of Campaigns By You must overview and lead the CBY team’s campaign outputs and the performance of the tech platform to ensure organisational health and sustainability. They manage risk, and are the escalation point for moderation decisions on what we host. They balance the CBY campaign team’s campaign portfolio to ensure that it’s engaging thousands of supporters and fundraising effectively in order to create political impact – and they lead the team to collaborate across the wider function and organisation. This is not a hands off role, you’ll be expected to lead the team by example.

Your background and experience

We are looking for someone who understands 38 Degrees, our model and our organisational culture already, and our fierce determination to change our country – campaigning to do so without fear or favour whoever is in power. You will have worked at, or with, a similar organisation to us, where our supporters are our purpose, and you’ll be ready to engage in discussions about campaigning tactics and way of working from day one.

The CBY platform is central to our mission to give people power in order to make the country fair, respectful and sustainable. You understand how to translate complex issues into everyday understandable language and you’re experienced in running digital and offline campaigns that create change in local, national, political and corporate issue areas.

You’ll have experience of working in productive and positive environments, and you’ll have insight into how teams can be set up for success in a campaigning space.

You’ll be adept and experienced at project management, understand the pressures the team face working in a fast paced reactive environment and be able to get the best of people in this context to help deliver on longer term, strategic goals alongside making the most of quick reactive opportunities.

And most of all, you will be a positive, practical person who can work with others, bringing them with you, to solve problems in a collaborative way.

3. Alongside offering free petition technology to individual members of the public, our CBY platform enables us to partner with other organisations so that they can run campaigns on our systems. Knowing what you do about 38 Degrees and our political positioning, who do you think would be a good new partner organisation for us to approach to work with and why?

4. You’ve noticed a news story blowing up this morning about unfair conditions for delivery drivers, it’s headline news across the country. We want to get a petition live by this afternoon and ideally have someone with a personal story as the petition starter. What sort of person would make the best story teller, and how would you go about finding them and persuading them to start a petition?

Mary Dinah Foundation (“MDF”) is the largest NGO in the world preventing malnutrition in local communities through the distribution of specialized nutritious foods. The Foundation provides emergency food relief and water sanitation, improves access to healthcare for infants and pregnant women, protects women and girls from gender-based violence, enhances education for refugees, and offers mental health support to individuals affected by conflict-induced displacement. As recipients of ongoing multi-million-dollar grants, we are at an exciting juncture and are seeking an experienced and driven Business Development Lead with a solid track record in personally securing 6 – 7 figure grants from new donors, whether government, institutional, INGOs, and/or large trusts and foundations, to join our team. This role is on track to Chief Operating Officer (COO), contingent on exceptional performance and results.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a proven ability to:

• Conduct prospect research to identify and qualify high-quality new donor leads for MDF and proactively track and respond to large funding opportunities and RFPs, helping us continuously build and enhance our prospect pipeline.
• Carry out detailed research and mappings to identify existing links with potential donors, whether through our leadership, Board, donors, etc., and recommend pathways to relationship building.
• Lead and manage the full proposal development process - from identification of the funding opportunity and detailed review of eligibility/suitability to assess our likelihood of success, through to creating buy-in around responsibilities and timelines, motivating and organizing internal stakeholders, guiding players through every step in the proposal process, gathering inputs from technical leads, working with finance teams on budget development, creating supplementary materials, to rolling up your sleeves and writing the proposal and supporting documents as required (Theories of Change, Risk Matrices, Log Frames, etc.).
• Deliver significant funding from new donors (candidates will be expected to show evidence of winning funding of a minimum of 6 figures).
• Create high-quality fundraising materials tailored to the needs of specific donor audiences (e.g., concept notes, slide decks, etc.)

About You
You have a deep passion for using your skills in leveraging funding to make the world a better, more equitable place, and an ability to balance big picture, strategic thinking, and design with getting tangible activities operationalized. Specifically:

• You are an exceptional writer, with an ability to produce compelling proposals tailored to the specific needs and interests of different donors. These might be technical, institutional bids requiring ToCs, logframes, etc., ‘Big Bet’ pitches relying on powerful storytelling, or applications to large foundations.
• Sitting within a growing team, you are nonetheless comfortable working autonomously (with the role being majority remote) while building the connections needed across our global team to get the information you need to raise funds for MDF.
• You are comfortable working in an organization that is fast-paced and experiencing significant growth. You show flexibility and resilience as structures, processes, and ways of working evolve.
• You are confident in managing competing priorities while meeting both internal and external deadlines and flexible enough to juggle your work where opportunities come in at the last minute.
• You are an excellent communicator, able to effectively tell our story and market our offerings in a compelling way, engaging partners and donors, and inspiring them to support MDF.

Experience and Eligibility Criteria

• Minimum 5 years’ experience in a fundraising role(s), with a preference for experience in institutional, trust/foundation, and/or Big Bet philanthropy, and evidence of personal track record in bringing in new funding.
• Experience working for an international development NGO is desirable, particularly in the space of Nutrition, Maternal and Infant Health, SGBV, and/or women and girls’ rights more broadly.
• Willingness to join the team in the local office ideally one day per week and for occasional international travel (1-2 weeks per year).

The Rewards
At MDF, we believe in being open, especially when it comes to salaries. The gross salary brackets for this position are £40,000 - £60,000/year in the UK. We will offer you a salary in this bracket depending on your level of experience and how it relates to your future colleagues.
