About us

Who we are

We are Citizens Advice, we are the people’s champion

We help people find a way forward

For 85 years, we’ve been helping to shape a society that’s fairer for everyone - working on issues that affect the whole of society.

We can all face problems that seem complicated or intimidating. At Citizens Advice we believe no one should have to face these problems without good quality, independent advice.

That’s why we’re here: to give people the knowledge and the confidence they need to find their way forward - whoever they are, and whatever their problem.

We give advice to millions of people

Our network of independent charities offers confidential advice online, over the phone, and in person, for free. When we say we’re for everyone, we mean it. People rely on us because we’re independent and totally impartial.

In total we helped over 2.66 million people find a way forward with one-to-one advice. Our advice website had over 60 million views of our online self-help advice.

We provide support in approximately 1,600 locations across England and Wales with 14,000 volunteers and 8,843 staff.

Our service saves society money. In 2022-23 the advice we delivered directly saved government and public services at least £681 million. For every £1 spent on the service, we benefit our clients by £13. We estimate our value to society at £4.7 billion.

Our culture and values

For everyone, where everyone belongs

An inclusive, purpose-driven workplace that listens, works together, is open and honest, accessible and helps everyone be the very best they can be.

  1. Purpose Driven - We always focus on the people who need our help
  2. People Focused - We recognise, vlaue and reward contributions and talents in an open, fair and meaningful way.
  3. Collaborative - We build relationships across teams and locations to foster innovation and inclusive ways of working.
  4. Transparent - We're open and honest, sharing information early and often whenever we can.

Equality, diversity and inclusion policy

EDI is of strategic importance within the organisation and recognised as integral to all we do as a service, not only for the people we help, but also for our colleagues and volunteers. We expect everyone in the organisation to foster our EDI values and contribute to advancing EDI.

Our commitment to this is strong and supported at every level of the organisation, which is why we work hard on our working environment. We have regular training, conversations, and action, supported by our brilliant in-house EDI team. The team works with all colleagues to improve allyship and find new ways to interrupt systems, norms, and practices that may contribute to inequality.

Positive Action Statement

Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) is of strategic importance within the organisation and recognised as integral to all we do as a service.

Central to pursuing our EDI mission is building diverse and inclusive teams in which everyone has a sense of belonging. We believe inclusion is a social justice issue - a principle that underpins our all EDI work. To that end, we particularly welcome applications from people we would like to see better represented in our organisation and sector - people of colour, LGBTQ+ people and disabled people. If you are disabled and meet our minimum criteria you will be guaranteed an interview for the role you apply for and we will provide reasonable adjustments as needed. We follow the social model of disability.

We’re also a flexible employer, so our roles may suit anyone who’d prefer a flexible arrangement to help their work/life balance. We’re flexible on location too. Many of our colleagues spend most of their time working remotely, and you can apply for our roles wherever you live in England and Wales.
