The Royal College of Ophthalmologists (RCOphth) is a membership organisation and the voice of the profession, with over 4,000 members in the UK and overseas. Main Purpose
This role is an exciting opportunity for you to play a leading role in the development and delivery of our new membership strategy. You will understand membership dynamics and ensure members experience a personalised approach that guarantees value to them.
You will work closely with colleagues to ensure that the membership offer and experience is optimised. This includes our regional and devolved nation leads, where you will support our activities, recruitment and engagement of members in these areas.
You will drive member engagement and lead the recruitment and onboarding of new members to the College as well as manage the promotion and election process for member opportunities within the college.
You will also represent the college both nationally and internationally, working closely with the Head of Communications and Engagement to build on our presence and voice, reaching new audiences and attracting new members.
Key responsibilities
- manage resources and budgets, working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders while developing and delivering strategic and tactical plans
- deliver the college membership strategy, working to ensure relevant employees and College members are involved in the activities identified to drive innovation and improvements
- provide clear and concise membership reporting to help key stakeholders understand our membership position and any areas of concern or opportunities for growth
- ensure membership value proposition is clearly communicated and understood across the organisation and ensure all website content is up to date and consistent
- keep abreast of best practice in membership recruitment, retention and the external environment through networking and professional development opportunities
- ·analyse member data, survey outputs and external environment to identify trends, gain insights and intelligence which inform the value proposition
- support communications and engagement team on member segmentation and lead on the development of automated personal and targeting messaging at appropriate stages in the membership life cycle
- actively promote the diversity of members by identifying and removing barriers and acting internally and externally as a champion for equity, diversity and inclusion
- manage a £1m+ budget, including achieving income targets and monitoring expenditure against forecast
- manage the Membership Working Group to maximise strategic impact and new approaches to membership services
- oversee the collection of annual membership subscription fee which account for almost a third of the Colleges annual income
- work collaboratively with colleagues both internally and externally to organise national, regional and international opportunities to grow our membership. Travel extensively to represent the college and promote the member offer at these events
- lead and support the team, including through the identification and delivery of professional development opportunities
- manage the integrity of membership data in compliance with UK GDPR
Elections
- plan and organise the College elections, working collaboratively with all relevant departments and committee managers to ensure a seamless recruitment process
- drive member engagement during elections through clear communication, marketing of opportunities and outreach to eligible members
- communicate with unsuccessful election applicants to sensitively inform them of the election result and ensure they remain an engaged member and signpost them to other opportunities that may be suitable for them
- ensure equity, diversity and inclusion is at the core of our recruitment processes to ensure the college governance structure is representative of our membership and wider society
- maintain an overview of all committee appointments and vacancies
- manage the onboarding process of new appointments with the support of the College Executive Assistant
- measure and monitor election rounds to report successes as well as identify future opportunities and implement improvements to systems and processes
- provide election reports and insights to the Board, Honorary Secretary and SMT when required

Purpose of Role:
Reporting to the Supporter Care Manager, you will deliver excellent customer care to supporters and potential supporters of Operation Smile UK. As an integral part of the Supporter Care team, you will successfully support the Individual Giving programme and wider fundraising activities, providing support to ever increasing income and supporter stewardship for the delivery of increasing levels of unrestricted income for Operation Smile UK.
Key Responsibilities:
- Be the first point of contact for existing supporters and new supporters who respond to our fundraising activities by phone, email, letter or in person, letter, or email delivering outstanding supporter care
- Liaise with supporters in timely communication via email, phone, and mail with excellent customer care

About the role
As part of this exciting role, you will be responsible for successfully planning and delivering our UK campaigns. You’ll achieve this by leading a dedicated team to develop integrated strategies across multiple areas, managing campaign budgets and coordinating political and public engagement efforts. As part of this role you will help to foster partnerships with key stakeholders, align strategies with international counterparts and oversee digital campaigning.

Job Description – Operations Manager
IcFEM Dreamland Mission is a Christian charity set up to help fund and support the work of IcFEM in
Kenya. We had been running for almost 20 years with volunteers
running a home-based UK office. Three years ago we employed staff in the UK for the first time. We
currently have income of £350k- £400k a year depending on the projects running. IcFEM Kenya is a
locally run organisation based at Kimilili in Western Kenya. IcFEM Kenya runs community projects as
well as a school and hospital. The past five years has seen our work grow significantly, including the
school and hospital which have developed into large institutions that are valued by the community
in Kimilili and fit well into the local government set up.
We are looking for an individual who is ambitious to see our ministry grow and is experienced at
blending trust in God with human endeavour.
We are seeking an Operations Manager who has experience of the charity sector and is prepared to
be flexible and adaptable to the needs of this small charity. There is the potential for flexibility within
this role and we would be willing to discuss a variation in hours worked. Some occasional evening or
weekend work will be needed, and occasional travel to Kenya is an important part of the role,
particularly to build relationships with the Kenyan team.

Main Purpose:
To work as part of the Leadership Team to develop and grow commercial enterprises, develop corporate giving schemes, secure donations to establish a sustainable unrestricted income stream into the Charity and showcase the work of the Charity on social media platforms.
Income Generation:
- To establish business enterprises within the charity to generate paid for service income, managing these operations and maximising profit.
- To establish commercial giving income streams and sponsorship with small, medium, and large companies.
- To establish a local supporter’s scheme, to generate income and promote the services of the Charity.
- To increase the customer base for the 131 Club, Studio 131, Happy Feet, Lunch Clubs, and any new enterprises the Charity sets up.
General Management:
- Oversee the maintenance of the Charity’s social media marketing, external media advertising and website maintenance.
- To undertake media campaigns representing the Charity, our work and the older people we support. Manage any Service Level Agreements with external marketing consultants.
- To work in line with the Charity’s values and to provide guidance on these values to staff.
- To work with the Leadership Team to develop the Charity’s internal strategy, fulfil its goals and realise its ambitions.
- To deputise in the absence of the CEO

The Miscarriage Association is a national charity dedicated to providing support and information to anyone affected by the loss of a baby in pregnancy. We also raise awareness of the impact of loss, advocate for those affected and challenge the taboos that can make miscarriage a lonely as well as distressing experience.
We do this by offering staffed support services (telephone helpline, live chat, email and DM), a network of peer support groups, a comprehensive website and a range of highly regarded patient leaflets. We also provide training and resources for health professionals and employers, contribute to research and ensure the patient voice is heard by policy and decision-makers.
We are about to begin a new chapter in our 40-year history, with ambitious plans to ensure our trusted services and support reaches even more people affected by this often-heartbreaking experience.
We are now looking for a Head of Operations and Service Delivery to help us develop and deliver our core support, information and training services in line with our new three-year strategy. Working alongside the CEO, you will contribute to the charity’s strategic vision and plans and help to translate these into operational activity and KPIs.
Managing a staff team of four, you will be responsible for ensuring the expansion and smooth running of our helpline, live chat and other direct contact services, putting in place effective systems to measure the quality and impact of these.
You’ll oversee the volunteers’ strategy and programme and manage and develop our training offer for health professionals and employers, working with the staff team and freelance support to deliver these.
Working alongside the support and communications team, you will also oversee the production and distribution of our highly regarded patient information leaflets, ensuring they are regularly reviewed and updated.
You will also support the CEO in day-to-day operations of the charity: liaising with our IT, telecoms and other suppliers; reviewing and updating, where necessary, HR policies and procedures; looking after day-to-day financial processes; and general risk management.
