UK Reads is dedicated to ensuring that every child, regardless of their background, has the opportunity to develop strong literacy skills. We work with children and young people in low-income communities, delivering school partnerships, literacy workshops, writing activities, and parent advocacy sessions that empower families to support their child’s learning journey.

As the UK branch of the World Literacy Foundation, our mission is to tackle educational inequality by providing children with books, literacy resources, and the skills needed to succeed. Our work helps children develop a love for reading, improve academic outcomes, and build confidence in their communication abilities.

We partner with schools, youth organisations, and community groups to deliver high-quality literacy interventions that engage children and young people, promote creativity, and strengthen their ability to express themselves.

The Role

UK Reads is looking for a highly organised, proactive, and motivated Programme Manager to take ownership of the administration, coordination, and growth of our literacy programmes. This role involves recruiting schools, managing relationships with educators and facilitators, ensuring the smooth delivery of literacy support activities, and expanding our programme reach across the UK.

You will play a critical role in ensuring our programmes run efficiently, align with our strategic goals, and have a measurable impact on children’s literacy development. You will be the main point of contact for schools and delivery partners, ensuring our interventions are well-coordinated, effective, and engaging.

This is an exciting opportunity to work with a small dynamic literacy charity and play a key role in helping children from disadvantaged backgrounds access the literacy support they need to thrive.

Key Responsibilities

Programme Coordination & Administration

• Oversee the day-to-day operations of UK Reads’ literacy programmes.
• Working closely with the Communities and Delivery lead to manage logistics, including scheduling workshops, coordinating facilitators, and ensuring programme materials are delivered on time.
• Ensure smooth execution and delivery of all workshops, school-based activities, and parent support sessions.
• Maintain accurate records of school partnerships, programme participation, and impact data.
• Provide regular progress updates to the leadership team and funders.

School & Stakeholder Engagement

• Actively recruit and onboard schools to participate in UK Reads’ literacy programmes.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with educators, facilitators, and community organisations.
• Act as the main point of contact for schools, ensuring they receive the necessary support.
• Work closely with facilitators to ensure effective programme delivery and engagement.
• Develop partnerships with youth organisations, libraries, and local community groups to increase the programme’s reach.

Programme Growth & Development

• Identify opportunities to expand and enhance the programme’s impact.
• Develop new partnerships and initiatives to broaden UK Reads’ reach in underserved communities.
• Work with the fundraising team to provide impact reports, case studies, and data to support grant applications.
• Contribute to the development of new programme formats and content to engage different age groups and literacy levels.

Monitoring, Evaluation & Impact Measurement

• Track programme effectiveness through data collection and feedback from schools, pupils, and facilitators.
• Develop and implement evaluation frameworks to measure the success of literacy interventions.
• Conduct post-programme assessments to understand the impact on children’s literacy skills and engagement.
• Use insights from evaluation to make programme improvements and enhance delivery.
• Ensure all reporting meets funder requirements and internal organisational goals.

Person Specification

Essential Skills & Experience

• Based in London with the ability to work remotely and travel when required.
• Strong programme coordination and administrative experience, ideally in education, literacy, or the charity sector.
• Experience working with schools, community groups, or youth organisations.
• Ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and stakeholder relationships simultaneously.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage different audiences.
• A proactive and self-motivated approach, capable of working independently.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot challenges in programme delivery.
• Experience in data collection, impact measurement, and programme evaluation.
• Passion for literacy development and a strong commitment to supporting children and young people.
• Valid DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) clearance or willingness to undergo DBS checks.

Desirable Skills & Experience

Additional Information

• This is a part-time freelance role working 2-3 days per week on an initial 12 months contract.
• The role offers £130 per day.
• The position is remote, but candidates must be based in London to engage with schools and stakeholders.

Financial & Administration Officer

Part-time home-based role with flexible working hours

The Douglas Bomford Trust is a small grant-making charity supporting those who work in and study the broad field of agricultural engineering. 

The administration of the Trust is undertaken by a Technical Secretary (TS) and a Financial Administration Officer (FAO), the Technical Secretary being responsible for dealing with applications and ongoing awards, and associated activities.

The current Financial Administration Officer wishes to stand down at the AGM to be held in November 2025, having worked with the Trust since 2007. It is hoped that the successful candidate will attend the April Trust General Management Meeting (scheduled for 9th April 2025), then liaise with the current FAO to gradually assume responsibilities over the summer months ready for November AGM. Experience in or familiarity with the agricultural or education sector would be useful for this role.

The primary duties of the role are:

· the maintenance of the Trust records, both financial and general,

· paying of grants etc

· working with the TS to plan and hold trustee meetings, including taking minutes

· updating the Trust website

· maintaining records for Charities Commission and Companies House

The role is undertaken on a self-employed basis, with hours worked charged quarterly; the proposed hourly rate being £30/hour. The hours are variable but generally average at 140-150 hours pa. Trustees’ meetings are held twice yearly usually in April and November, with the workload being heavier in preparation for and after these two meetings. (Latterly, one of these meetings is held virtually and one at an institution in receipt of a grant for a PhD student etc.) Other ad hoc meetings with investment managers, trustees may be attended (often virtually).

Liaison with TS is by phone/Zoom etc.

The registered office of the Trust is currently at Cranfield, within the offices of the Institution of Agricultural Engineers; archives are stored at this location. However, the role does not require regular access to these, and a potential candidate is not required to be local to this site.

We are looking for a Specialist Huntington's Disease Adviser to provide invaluable, specialist support and advice to people affected by Huntington’s disease. The role is 21 hours per week and is home-based, living in the Merseyside and Isle of Man area, but will involve extensive travel within the region and occasional travel across England and Wales. 

We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated person who is dedicated and committed to the welfare of families affected by Huntington’s disease, developing and improving the quality of care that they receive. Your main responsibilities will be to offer specialist help, information, advice, support and education to everyone affected by Huntington’s disease and professionals involved in supporting them.

THE ROLE

At a time of unprecedented demand for our services at NEA we have a fantastic opportunity for someone to join us in the position of Training and Assessment Officer to work on a full-time basis, 37 hours per week, the contract is a 2-year fixed term contract with the possibility of becoming permanent.

As part of NEA’s Development and Partnerships Directorate, you will report to NEA’s Training Programme Delivery Manager.

Acting as course tutor and examiner, the successful candidate will be responsible for delivering NEA’s training courses and qualifications to a wide range of organisations, including local authorities, housing associations, voluntary and community groups, and commercial organisations across England and the wider UK.  Our courses cover key issues associated with fuel poverty, fuel debt, affordable warmth, low carbon technologies and practical energy efficiency advice.

Our Training and Assessment Officers assist in the development of future assessment-based qualifications and have the ability to recognise new areas of opportunity; designing, developing and producing engaging and innovative training presentations and material as appropriate, for face-to-face and online delivery of current and future training and assessment products.

This role requires a relevant training or education qualification and recent demonstrable experience of delivering adult training. Ideally, you will also have experience or knowledge of fuel poverty, community development, debt or money advice, consumer issues and/or housing.

The post requires an element of flexibility as Training and Assessment Officers will on occasion be required to work outside of normal office hours and away from home; driving will sometimes be required.

This post provides an exciting and rewarding opportunity to help the charity deliver its work programme as a major national provider of energy advice services whilst developing and working on projects that bring social benefits and improvements to the well-being of low income and vulnerable householders whilst also meeting environmental goals.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO SUCCEED

To be successful in this role, you will have demonstrable experience of adult training delivery, course design and development, and hold a relevant training or education qualification.

The right candidate will be engaging with excellent communication skills and the ability to effectively communicate with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders. You will have sound presentation skills and a creative and structured approach to training delivery.

You will be highly organised, self-motivated and have the ability to work individually and collaboratively as part of a team.

It is important that the successful candidate shares NEA’s core values, and you should be able to demonstrate a commitment to the aims and objectives of NEA and the eradication of fuel poverty. Experience or knowledge of fuel poverty, community development, debt or money advice, consumer issues or housing is desirable.

It would be beneficial for the successful candidate to have experience of working with vulnerable householders, low-income and/or other disadvantaged groups however, this is not essential.

Home working and office-based locations are available depending on proximity to an NEA office.  Post holders must be resident within the UK and be able to provide their Right to Work in the UK. 

WE ARE OFFERING

• £31,068 – £35,836 per annum (Points 18-25) plus London weighting of £3,300 if applicable. New appointments are usually made at the starting point of the scale.

About the opportunity 

A vital area of our charity’s work is our Musicians Visiting service, which offers musicians who receive long-term support from the charity (due to long-term illness, terminal illness, age, or often a combination of factors) regular telephone check-ins and in-person visits.

The purpose of the call or visit is to provide practical and pastoral support, and to make ongoing assessments of musicians’ needs, ensuring we continue to offer the most appropriate and timely support.

In-person visits take place at the musician’s home or at another agreed meeting place close to where they live, and therefore our team of Regional Visitors operate within agreed geographical areas across the U.K. We currently have opportunities for Regional Visitors to join our team in the following regions:

• Scotland

• West Midlands

Our Regional Visitors are allocated to musicians within their assigned geographical location and undertake an agreed number of calls and visits across the year. Approximately 35 in-person visits are required per year but can fluctuate depending on the geographical location need and applications we receive from musicians. 

As self-employed/freelance workers, our visiting team are paid an agreed rate for each call or visit. 

About you 

If you are based in Scotland or the West Midlands and are interested in using some of your time across the year to support musicians through our vital work, this could be the opportunity for you. 

With a passion for music, if you have experience of working in the health and social care sector, ideally with previous experience of conducting home visits to individuals, and you can offer your services for an agreed amount of time across the year, then we would love to hear from you.

It’s essential that you have the skills to manage your own workload, actively listen, and communicate with empathy. If you have experience of working within the music industry, that would be an advantage. 

Other requirements

• Our calls and visits are made to musicians between 9.30am-4pm Monday-Friday so you must be available to undertake work between those times (i.e. this is not evening / weekend work)

• The role will involve lone working, including in-person visits to the homes of musicians, so you must be comfortable to lone work and travel – reasonable travel expenses are reimbursed in line with our expenses policy. Suitable lone working training will be given.

• Due to the geographical location of most in-person visits, a full driving license and willingness to drive is essential (reasonable adjustments will be considered for applicants with a disability).

• A basic Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is an essential requirement

What will I be doing?

• Supporting the two Senior Insight Managers for Devolved Nations, managing projects that support delivery of HSE's and the wider directorate's strategic objectives

• Identifying, distilling, synthesising and sharing key insights gained from devolved nations health systems on key cancer topics, such as rollout and optimization of screening programmes, and how health organizations work together to diagnose and treat cancer.

• Building effective relationships with expert teams across the Policy, Information and Communications directorate as well as senior management within the Evidence and Implementation department

• Producing effective internal communications to disseminate work

• Contributing to the management of the overall health systems engagement programme, including acting as lead for designated workstreams as required

• Working with colleagues across different teams to develop, manage and deliver external-facing projects

• Leading and supporting project teams of CRUK staff and external stakeholders and partners to develop and deliver the above projects.

Sightsavers is looking for a Digital Technical intern to support their technical team manage and develop their systems, products and services.

About the internship

This post-holder will support colleagues across the digital fundraising and performance team. They will support the maintenance of various systems, assist with website enhancements and the testing and quality assurance of multiple platforms. The digital technical intern will report directly to the Technical Manager.

The role and your key responsibilities

As Employer Partnerships Manager, your role is to grow our employer partner numbers and support our existing employer partners to get the most out of their partnership with us. A fundamental element of our work with employers is to make sure they’re adding genuine value to our student, teacher and parent community. 

Your key responsibilities will include:

• Make sales to employers:
  • Working with our New Business Lead and the wider Employer team, you’ll secure and conduct meetings with employers in which you’ll listen to their needs, communicate our mission to them, demonstrate our offering and seek to secure their ongoing subscription. External events and conferences are a regular part of the role where you may also be required to deliver presentations and be part of panel discussions.

• Maintain excellent relationships with existing partners and secure their subscriptions

  • You’ll onboard new partners, conduct regular check-in calls and consultatively support our employer partners to make the most of their partnership with us. It’s crucial that you maintain a sky-high resubscription rate.

• Delivering our existing services for partner employers
