Job Purpose
As BSR’s Marketing and Communications Manager you will deliver impactful communications and data-driven marketing plans that support our mission and vision.
You’ll work with teams to build strategic marketing and communications plans and manage a tactical calendar of multi-channel activity. All of which will drive engagement with clinical guidance, the latest science and research, quality education programmes, professional events and conferences.
You’ll focus on promoting member benefits to boost recruitment and retention across the adult, paediatric and adolescent rheumatology community. And you’ll help colleagues to tell compelling stories of our work, to celebrate the work of our members, to showcase rheumatology as a career and to highlight the issues of most importance to our members.
You’ll lead a talented team that manages the organisation’s communications channels, digital marketing, content strategy, and our people focused brand. Working closely with the Head of Marketing, Communications and Membership, you’ll play a key role in our data capability and insights, helping us to focus on impact led activity. You’ll also help colleagues to gather feedback and intelligence about our members and audiences, enabling us to continually improve our member offering.
This role requires a creative, pro-active and impact-oriented marcomms professional who excels in both planning and hands-on execution.
Main responsibilities
Team leadership and development
- Lead and coach a team responsible for content creation, digital marketing, and membership campaigns
- Provide regular performance reviews and professional development opportunities for team members
Marketing and communications
- Work with teams to develop tailored marketing activity to promote products and services
- Track, analyse and report on the success/failures of our campaigns to aid understanding, efficiency and improvement

1. Main Duties
Communications Strategy
- Design, develop, and implement the Diocese’s Communications Strategy which is fully aligned with the Diocese ten-year Mission plan.
- Research and identify appropriate methods and channels including secular and religious media to raise the Diocese’s profile and in turn that of the Catholic church.
- Collaborate with partners, such as the Bishops Conference of England and Wales to help shape and influence public policy aligned with Diocesan objectives.
External Communications
- Proactively identify opportunities for promoting positive news about the work of the diocese and enabling the Diocesan Bishop to contribute to thought leadership and public debate on relevant policies.
- Drafting material appropriate for publication.
- Arranging video to support key diocesan publications such as Bishops Pastoral Letters.
- Build and develop the Diocese’s links with press and media to support strategic objectives.
- Act as the point of contact for sensitive news, advising the Bishop and senior staff about media handling.
- Act as the Diocesan spokesperson when required, providing a positive and supportive representation of the Catholic Church and the Diocese.
- Develop and implement a Crisis Communications Plan, crafting media statements and briefing senior colleagues on media lines to take.
- Organise media training for senior clergy and lay leaders as required.
- Work with Bishops Office to deliver the weekly E-News, being responsible for editorial control and compliance with relevant regulations, e.g. copyright law

Internal Communications
- Work closely with HR to Oversee and improve the management of internal communications to foster transparency and engagement.
- Take overall responsibility for organising monthly team briefings for the department of Administration and for other ad hoc events involving parish employee’s clergy and volunteers.
- Manage communication channels such as the intranet, regular newsletters, and staff briefings to ensure alignment with Diocesan values and goals.
- Work with Bishops office on key publications such as the annual directory.
Website and Digital Presence
- Oversee the ongoing improvements in the functionality of the Diocesan website, ensuring it is engaging, user-friendly, up to date and supports the Bishop’s vision.
- Introduce interactive and video content to enhance user experience.
- Support parishes in developing and maintaining their local websites.
Support to Key Departments
- Collaborate with key departments to design and implement tailored communication strategies. For example, Safeguarding.
- Provide tools, templates, and guidance to ensure consistent and effective messaging across departments.
- Act as ‘brand champion’, developing, overseeing and implementing brand guidelines to professionalise and standardise all external communications output, whether it emanates from within or outside the Communications department.

Meeting Attendance and Reporting
- Attend meetings of the Finance Audit and Risk Committee and any other meetings required, to provide briefings, regular written reports and seek approvals as needed from the Board of Trustees about Communication related matters.
- Support the work of Multidisciplinary meetings that may be called form time to time to deal with extraordinary events.
- Attend in person meetings in parishes across the Diocese where sensitive matters indicate that an in-person meeting is preferable.

Team Management
- Provide leadership, direction, and line management to the Communications team, ensuring objectives are met.

Communications Manager - Person Specification
Competence, Expertise and Knowledge:
Essential
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, strategic communications, or equivalent.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in communications at a senior level, ideally in a mission-focused, charity or public sector organisation.
- Demonstrate excellent levels of written and verbal communication, with the ability explain complicated issues fluently and persuasively.
- Capable of Analysing complex situations and provide advice to senior managers.
- Contributing to resolving the problem with the ability to anticipate and resolve problems before they arise.
- Demonstrable experience developing, managing and motivating teams/individuals to ensure success

This role will lead on the recruitment and management of major donors as well as leading a team that also has responsibility for trusts, foundations and corporate fundraising.
We are currently nearing the end of our Your New Hospice capital appeal and are looking for someone to take our high value giving into this exciting new phase. This role will be responsible for building a strategy and direction for the team, building a portfolio of major donors, and creating and optimising business processes. This role will also be a part of the Income Generation Leadership team and so will be expected to contribute to a collaborative and supportive team environment that values cross team working and fluid supporter journeys.
The successful candidate will:
- Have significant experience of securing and cultivating five figure donations from high net worth donors.

Myeloma Patients Europe (MPE) is offering an exciting position as Communications Manager (Digital and Social Media) in a dynamic European non-profit patient advocacy organisation. This role will help deliver the MPE communications strategy, providing both strategic and operational support across the organisation, and ensuring that MPE is increasing our reach and impact to improve the lives and experiences of myeloma patients.
As Communications Manager (Digital and Social Media), you will work with the Head of Communications and other key staff across to the organisation to:
- Implement MPE communications strategy, monitor and improve MPE reach, and increase impact with key stakeholders
- Develop and disseminate strong and relevant messaging for key stakeholders
- Monitor and evaluate our performance and reach across digital and social communications channels
This will include working on the following core activities and tasks:
Digital communications (40%)
- Writing, editing and updating content for the MPE website (i.e. using WordPress, Elementor and other content management systems)
- Developing written and graphic content for MPE programme specific websites (such as MPE Navigator and Myeloma Access Atlas)
- Collaborating with relevant MPE staff on digital content development and publication
- Designing educational and promotional materials including leaflets, reports, patient materials, campaign materials and social media adverts/cards/images
- Supporting the Head of Communications with the development and management of monthly E-newsletter content, webinars and other relevant communications activities
- Developing multi-media communications campaigns
Social media (40%)
- Leading MPE social media and content planning, maintaining and developing our content so that it engages our audiences, supports our messaging and strategic goals

About you:
Essential
- Minimum of four years of relevant professional experience in communications role or equivalent
- Demonstrable experience of writing and developing communications content , social media posts, news stories and articles (this will be tested at interview)
- Experience of stakeholder engagement and increasing reach of an organisation via communications channels
- Ability to explain and communicate complex topics to diverse and lay audiences
- Basic digital design skills
- Excellence in writing, proofreading and editing in English. The ideal candidate will be a native English speaker

We’re looking for a Stories and Media Manager to join our team
Salary: Circa £40,000
Base: Central Edinburgh/hybrid
Hours: Full time and permanent. Working 35 hours a week over core working hours of 10am - 3pm, Monday to Friday, with a one-hour lunch break. The office is open 8am - 7pm daily and our hybrid working policy requires all full-time employees to work at least two days a week in the Edinburgh office.

The Health Collective is one of our central campaigns. It has emerged out of the urgent need to close the health gap for women from marginalised communities and is made up of and led by grassroots organisations, representing women’s voices from every marginalised community in our society.
The Health Collective Community Manager will be responsible for managing the development, expansion, and sustainability of the Health Collective.
This role will focus on managing and growing the existing community of members, organising and facilitating regular meetings, content creation for the Health Collective, coordinating the development of a unique identity for the group, and establishing an online community forum.
The role will also involve coordinating training sessions, events, and communication between the Collective and external stakeholders. This is an exciting opportunity to be at the forefront of a growing community that empowers women and promotes health equality.

Main Duties
Community Engagement & Growth
- Actively manage and grow the online and offline community, recruiting new members from all marginalised communities and fostering a sense of trust and connection.

- Set up and run a virtual community for members and monitor and moderate community interactions to ensure a positive and respectful environment.

Content Creation & Communication
- Create and share high-quality, educational, and influencing content across social media platforms and the website.

- Work with a designer and members to create the Health Collective's logo and identity.
Event Coordination
- Plan, organize, and manage virtual and in-person health collective meetings, liaising with members to determine the agenda and experts to find a diverse range of speakers.
- Collaborate with external partners to enhance event quality and reach.
Monitoring, evaluation & reporting
- Record and monitor the Collective’s activities (output) and their effectiveness (impact) through data collection, surveys, interviews and case studies.
- Report on project progress and update the Wellbeing of Women team regularly.
- Report on project progress to National Lottery at least twice a year with information about the Collective’s outputs and impact along with an expenditure budget for the period
- Work with an external consultant to assess the Collective’s impact annually.
Advocacy
- Work with the Head of Comms and Campaigns to build relationships with key stakeholders, influencers, and organisations aligned with the collective’s mission.
- Monitor news and political developments relevant to the Health Collective’s work.

The role will be the first point of contact with employees and third-party providers. They will provide advice and support on a number of people and culture systems, processes, IT and travel. We are looking for someone to join the team who has the ability to identify issues and problem solve, be creative and can build and manage successful relationships with a variety of stakeholders. Previous charity sector experience and someone who can speak German (both verbal and written) is desirable.

About the Role
