About us
Who we are
Founded in 2013, The Bike Project is an award winning charity who provide an innovative solution to one of the most pressing problems facing refugees in the UK: the cost of transport and the impact that lack of mobility has on the daily lives of refugees and people seeking asylum.
Our mission is simple – to match up refugees and people seeking asylum without the means or money to travel around the city, with the thousands of abandoned or unwanted bikes in and around London and Birmingham. To date, we have provided over 11,000 bikes to refugees and asylum seekers.
We also run a programme called Pedal Power where we teach refugee women to cycle from scratch and Bike Buddies where we match volunteers with refugees to go on rides together.
To fund our work, we sell some of the bikes that are donated to us through our online shop and this revenue complements our income from traditional fundraising.
