The Role
The Board of Oxford Head Injury Services (OHIS formerly Headway Oxfordshire), is seeking to appoint a CEO based at the Activity and Rehabilitation Centre (ARC) in Kennington Oxfordshire, to implement our 3 year strategic plan, as we continue our next phase of growth and development to expand services, develop different partnerships, and extend the range of funding streams.
This is an exciting opportunity for a Chief Executive or an aspiring senior manager from the public, commercial or not-for-profit sector to lead the charity, and ensure we achieve our challenging goal to double the number of those we support over the next 2 to 3 years. This is an externally facing role requiring strong influencing, networking and development skills. Success will depend on our ability to fundraise and raise awareness of what we do, develop our range of innovative services, engage with other charities, set up more corporate partnerships, work with major donors and build credibility by offering education about acquired brain injury.
Our Purpose
We were established 35 years ago to support those who had suffered a brain injury and their carers. This includes head injury from traumatic incidents such as road accidents, violence, and sports, or from neurological problems including encephalitis, haemorrhage, tumours, and stroke. There are in the region of 3500 to 4000 incidences of acquired brain injury that require hospitalisation every year in Oxfordshire alone. There are many more cases that are categorised as "minor head injuries", (such as concussion), whereby individuals experience significant effects but are not admitted for treatment. Lives and relationships can be significantly affected by acquired brain injury (ABI) and the types of support services that OHIS provides, are essential to maximise recovery, adjustment, independence and enjoyment of life,
Support we Offer
The first point of contact is usually through our ABI Navigators working within a hospital setting to identify individuals and families who require support at the earliest stages of their condition. We help individuals and carers to navigate the complex journey of recovery and make referrals to our own or other community-based services as required.
Our activity and rehabilitation centre, the ARC, includes a well- equipped gym, with exercise professionals on hand to support individuals to regain their physical strength. Those spending a day at the centre may choose from a schedule of fun, practical and stimulating activities such as yoga, tai chi, quizzes, board games, art, crafts, music, singing, creative writing and storytelling as well as special interest talks. With all of these opportunities, we seek to promote social interaction, peer support, independence, and general wellbeing.
Further, our Head Injury Buddies offer 1-1 support in the home and/or community, helping individuals to tackle everyday challenges associated with living with brain injury, promoting resilience and signposting to specialist services.
Skills and Experience we Need.
· Some experience within the charity sector, or of working closely with the NHS, local government or not for profit organisations
· A warm personality, good humour, and ability to develop new and exisiting relationships, and collaborate with a range of organisations, service commissioners, corporate partners, sponsors, funders, and users of our services.
· Ideally a sound understanding of the care or health sector.
· Financial management experience including budget setting and variance reporting.
· Understanding of fundraising streams, grant applications or income generation.
· Experience of negotiating contracts or presenting a case, engaging new clients and partnerships,
· A collaborative, supportive leadership style and ability to think creatively.
· Strong oral and written communication skills, demonstrating influence and diplomacy
· Strategic, consultative, analytical and decisive with good judgement.
· Ability to prioritise and overcome setbacks to achieve results.
· A work history showing progression at management levels
· A track record of motivating teams to deliver excellent outcomes.
· An understanding of acquired brain injury and empathy with the demands facing our clients as well as carers of all ages and their support needs.

About the role
Reporting to the Director of Young People, Volunteer & Business Support the postholder will provide our disbursed team of Growth & Development Workers with clear management, guidance, support and advice on growth, development, volunteer recruitment and retention. The role will coordinate and drive forward our work in these area, helping the Sea Cadets to make a difference to the lives of even more young people across the UK.
The postholder will have excellent management, interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to manage a diverse workload and operate in a collaborative way with others. They will have an understanding of issues facing volunteering, recruitment, retention and growth in voluntary organisations and the effective management and support of remote workers is essential.
Responsibilities

- Provide line management for the Project Coordinators, Growth & Development Team Leaders and through them the Growth & Development Workers.
- Providing both management support and technical advice on growth, development and volunteer recruitment, retention and support functions.
- Contribute to the strategic development and sustainable growth of The Sea Cadets nationally.
- Lead and manage the effective implementation of new and ongoing projects that support outreach, growth, development, volunteer and/or cadet recruitment and retention, including but not limited to externally funded projects, liaising with and reporting to funders as required
- Support and advise employees, volunteers and others on the growth and development of the Sea Cadets.
Requirements

- Experience of working with volunteers and a good understanding of how to ensure they are effectively recruited, managed and supported

About The Murray Parish Trust
Children with a serious illness are three times more likely to struggle with their mental health. Their childhoods are overshadowed by coming to terms with diagnosis, hospital stays, treatment, feeling different from friends or managing how their illness affects daily life. Many of them struggle with severe anxiety and depression, experiencing isolation and trauma during their journey. These children are at much higher risk of long-term mental health difficulties that are more complex and difficult to treat, on top of living with often complex medical needs.
Actors Jim Murray and Sarah Parish’s first daughter, Ella-Jayne, was born with Rubinstein-Taybi Syndrome in 2009 and spent half her short life in paediatric intensive care, Southampton Children’s Hospital. Ella-Jayne died, at home, just eight months old. After they recovered from the immediate horror, Jim and Sarah felt an overwhelming drive to help other children and families and founded The Murray Parish Trust in 2014. They were awarded MBE’s in the King’s New Years Honours 2025 for services to seriously ill children and their families.
Our charity delivers projects that support the mental health of seriously ill children and their families. We improve access to specialist, imaginative and empowering support, at the earliest possible moment, to prevent long-term mental health difficulties. We do this by delivering a vast range of projects in children’s hospitals, hospices and other health or community settings across the UK. These include drama, dance, art, nature and music therapy; bereavement and mortuary suites, distraction equipment that reduces anxiety, sanctuary and quiet rooms; sibling support; counselling and therapy rooms; and psychological support for children/family members.
The role - Head of Public Fundraising and Operations
This is an exciting new chapter for The Murray Parish Trust. Our new Head of Public Fundraising and Operations will work closely with the Board of Trustees and our Head of Philanthropy and Projects to scale our impact and expand reach nationwide. They will play a pivotal role in leading operations and shaping the charity’s future, as well as leading on growing income from community, corporate, individual fundraising, which have been identified as strategic fundraising priorities.
We anticipate time will be split roughly equally between leading public fundraising and operational management. Key responsibilities
Fundraising: Work alongside with the Head of Philanthropy and Projects to implement the fundraising strategy, including:
- Delivery of the specific fundraising activity delegated to this role to grow income year on year (individuals, community, corporate, legacies, events), supported by the work of freelancers.
- Strategic oversight of all public fundraising including monitoring, evaluating and reporting to the Board.

Own the general ledger, reconciling transactions using Xero accounting software, and ensuring the accounts are accurate and up to date

Track income and expenditure against budgets and work with the whole team to revise forecasts accordingly

About the role

The Role:
As the Head of Policy and Public Affairs, you will play a pivotal role in shaping local and national policies affecting the youth sector. You will work closely with our Director of Policy, Insights and External Affairs, and key stakeholders to develop and deliver cutting-edge policy and public affairs strategies. Your responsibilities will include:
- Influencing youth policy and government funding to strengthen the youth sector.
- Developing credible policy positions that align with their mission.
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with political parties and key decision-makers.
- Leading policy events and roundtables.
- Collaborating with internal and external partners to drive meaningful change.
About You:
We are looking for someone with significant experience in a senior policy role, excellent communication skills, and a proven ability to engage with senior-level decision-makers.
You should have an understanding of current debates and priorities in the youth work space or within intersecting policy areas and sectors such as education, health, youth justice etc and be able to manage a complex workload to meet tight deadlines. Experience in managing and motivating a small team is also essential.
