About us

Who we are

BMS World Mission is a Christian mission organisation, working in over 30 countries on four continents, to help people experience fullness of life in Jesus Christ.

Since our founding in 1792, God has worked through BMS supporters, partners and workers to save and transform lives. We’re over 230 years old, and our Baptist history has laid a rich foundation from which we still learn, grow and take inspiration today. We believe that every follower of Jesus has a calling to mission.

BMS workers and partners strive every day to make Jesus known and share the full life he brings. From legal work to surgery, food projects to education, BMS works with local partners, providing help where it is most needed, among the most marginalised and least evangelised people in the world. We do this thanks to the support of UK Christians, individuals and churches, who share our vision for a world made better through Christ’s grace.

BMS believes in a holistic mission, an approach that stays true to the Christian call to evangelisation without neglecting the duty to take care of the physical needs of the poor. As one of the world's oldest Protestant mission organisations (founded in 1792 by William Carey, the father of modern mission) BMS has longstanding relationships with partner organisations, umbrella mission agencies and local church unions in the countries in which it works.

Partnership shapes all that we do – whether we’re called to pray, give or serve, either overseas or in our local contexts. Learn more about the difference you can make through BMS' three strategy areas, Heart for the Gospel, Hope for the World and Help for the Journey.

Our culture and values

Our values define who we are and enable us to achieve our vision as we work together for a world where all can experience faith in Christ and the abundant life only he provides.

Walking humbly - As we walk humbly, we engage with others as equal partners in mission, listening first and learning from multiple perspectives.

Bringing our best - By bringing our best, we work diligently and thoughtfully with integrity, honesty and transparency, knowing our work helps transform lives.

Embracing change - Embracing change allows us to strive for continuous improvement, supporting one another to respond to how the world is changing.

Equality, diversity and inclusion policy

Our goal is to create a diverse, equitable and inclusive culture where everyone is valued, respected and treated fairly and through this, experiences a sense of belonging. Our audience is our people; anyone that works or volunteers directly for BMS or serves within our governance structures.
