About the Role: We’re looking for enthusiastic Fundraisers to join our team and help create amazing experiences for our supporters, volunteers, and partners. Here’s what you’ll be doing:
- Fundraising Activities: Plan and deliver a regular programme of fundraising events and activities such as our golf day, Kite Ball, online auction and other community events.
- Community Engagement: Work with local businesses, schools, faith groups, and individuals to support their fundraising efforts and build lasting relationships.
- Storytelling: Share inspiring stories with our supporters to show the impact of their donations.
- Presentations: Prepare and deliver engaging pitches and presentations to secure new support.
- Volunteer Coordination: Identify when we need volunteer support, recruit volunteers, and help them get started.

This brand new role will be responsible for both Events and Corporate Partnership fundraising, with the initial, primary focus being on developing and delivering an events programme. This is an incredibly exciting role for the right candidate as you will be able to help shape the direction of the role for the charity.
Events is a relatively new area for the charity and we anticipate the events programme will, in the main, support our corporate partners and provide a varied package of engagement opportunities for our growing base of employee volunteers. These, and other events, will help raise vital funds as well as networking and new business development opportunities.
We’re looking for someone who has experience of a similar role/s. You will have great people skills and experience of building and maintaining strong relationships. You will be enthusiastic, driven and creative with a can-do attitude and have exceptional planning and organisational skills. This role will have periods of high intensity.
As we all work remotely, you will also need to be a self-starter and be able to work independently. We would expect a thorough understanding and commitment to LTSB’s vision, mission, and work.

- Help to grow the name of VOICES, through use of relationships, partnerships, marketing and communications.
- Work closely with the Centre Administrator to agree a planned approach to social media.
- Working with the VOICES team, consider the role of volunteers in VOICES – taking management responsibility for any fundraising volunteers.
- In line with our trauma-informed ethos, adopt a trauma-informed approach.
- Work with clients, including the Lived Experience Group, to hear their ideas for fundraising and enable their participation in events / volunteer opportunities where appropriate.
- Develop and maintain relationships with a variety of key stakeholders including Clients, funders (including trusts, companies, major donors), Trustees and volunteers.

The Role

What we need from you
Ideally, you'll have significant experience and expertise in the Community Investment sector gained from working in a similar role.

- A proven track record of positive stakeholder engagement and relationship management, both internally and externally

We are looking for a motivated, experienced individual to lead our corporate fundraising and partnerships, and help develop our grants income, enabling us to expand our work engaging and empowering communities across Britain. About this role

Main responsibilities
- Provide account management to existing and new corporate relationships, nurturing effective, lasting relationships that help community rail to deliver on its aims around community development, sustainable travel, and inclusion.
- Carry out prospect research to identify new corporate supporters and relevant grant streams, and be proactive in developing new leads and connections.
- Liaise with, listen and pitch to existing and new funding leads to: understand our common interests and opportunities for working together to benefit community rail; convey the value they can derive from working with us or upping their support; and secure their ongoing commitment.
- Explore and develop joint grant bids by liaising with colleagues, our members and potential external partners to support grant applications that align with our strategic aims.
- Work cross-team and draw on member and partner insights to understand key funding needs and opportunities and create strong funding proposals and budgets in support of these.
- Work closely with the director of people and funding to develop our funding strategy and achieve success against our funding objectives.
- Help to build a strong fundraising culture and ethos across the organisation, and wider community rail movement, including feeding expert advice and input into our member support team, training and events.
- Participate and contribute to our wider work, in particular helping us to use key events and campaigns such as our Community Rail Awards, to support fundraising.
- Develop, monitor and maintain key systems and processes, such as effective funder reporting and review meetings, and monitoring and reporting on fundraising KPIs.
Skills, competencies and experience
- Skills and experience in third sector fundraising, preferably including corporate fundraising, funder reporting and grants, along with a broad understanding of the full fundraising mix and confidence in identifying and developing new opportunities.
- A demonstrable proactive approach to engaging with new and existing funders to set up and continually develop lasting relationships that support a cause.
- Ability to prepare high-quality funding proposals/grant applications and reports, adapting the communication style for different audiences and stakeholders to maximise impact.
- A skilled communicator (verbal and written) who can gather information and enthuse individuals both internally and externally.
- The ability to effectively manage multiple and competing priorities to meet deadlines.
- Appreciation of and commitment to community development, empowerment and sustainability, and the value of community engagement in relation to transport.
- Excellent organisational skills with firm understanding of KPIs, targets, budgeting, and risk mitigation plans.
- Proactive, positive and self-motivated, able to work on own initiative and inspire and enthuse others, and overcome hurdles to achieve results.
- IT literate with a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, the internet and social media.
Other information
This post is home-based, but with some travel (including occasional overnight stays) for team meetings, events and external meetings. This is a permanent position and includes a probationary period of three months from the date of appointment. Following their sons’ diagnosis of Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD), Emily Reuben and Alex Johnson founded Duchenne UK in 2012. We are an ambitious, dynamic and impactful charity.
DMD is a devastating progressive condition diagnosed in early childhood which causes all the muscles in the body to gradually weaken. There are currently only very limited treatment options for DMD, so Emily and Alex set up Duchenne UK to change this.
Since 2012, we have raised more than £27 million to end the devastating impact of DMD. We fund ground-breaking scientific research to find effective treatments. We’ve developed the infrastructure of DMD clinical trial delivery in the UK. We engage industry and regulators to accelerate access to treatments. And we’re here to support every family affected and ensure that they receive the best possible care. We aim not only to improve quality of live but stop the disease in its tracks. We’re doing it faster too, because this generation of patients can’t wait.
Alex and Emily were awarded OBEs in The King’s Birthday Honours List in 2023 in recognition of their services to charity and to people living with DMD. They, and the dedicated and effective team they have built at Duchenne UK, are now at the forefront of this work in the UK.

Job Description
This role plays a key part in advancing the fundraising of Duchenne UK to enable more investment into research, advancing treatments and supporting the DMD community. A core part of this will be building relationships with key supporters, including our incredible Family and Friends Funds, corporate supporters and community of fundraisers.
You will be central to the development and delivery of key events and campaigns throughout the year to achieve ambitious fundraising targets. You will have budget management responsibilities and provide insight into activities to drive improvements and further success in future years.
The role will contribute to overall fundraising growth; ensuring the guiding engagement and fundraising principles are delivered, and that all fundraising delivers an exceptional and remarkable donor experience to which Duchenne UK prides itself.
Fundraising and business development
- Community
- Key relationship manager for Duchenne UK Family and Friends Funds, engaging them through fundraising, supporting third party events and providing regular project and charity updates
- Develop and implement the Family Fund and Community Fundraising stewardship strategy
- Events, Challenge and Campaigns
- Manage and grow the challenge events portfolio
- Project manage community events and Duchenne UK campaigns
- Oversee the whole event process from developing a business case and objectives, to budget, project management and event follow up with relevant agencies and suppliers to deliver events within budget
- Play a vital role in the delivery of Duchenne UK’s signature event, the Duchenne Dash. Our 24hr London to Paris bike ride raising c.£800k annually.

- Manage Corporate partnerships, with support from the Fundraising Director
- Stewardship and income development
- Develop and deepen existing donor relationships, ensuring that the organisation maintains effective communications and good relations with our donors at every level and that they are updated on our work and impact
- Oversee management of regular giving, including working with the Communications team to promote this type of giving. Provide stewardship to Regular Givers, with support from the Fundraising Assistant.
- Lead the identification and development of new income sources with the support of the Fundraising team to increase donations, improve the profile of Duchenne UK and enhance our reputation within the donor community; including corporate partnerships, fundraising campaigns, third party activity, challenge events, regular giving and legacy
- Represent the organisation at meetings with donors and external events
- Monitoring and evaluation
- Support the development and implementation of the new Sales Force database (launching July 2024)
- Monthly monitoring and evaluation of fundraising activity
- Review fundraising and engagement for each Duchenne UK event and campaign with the support of the Fundraising Team.
- Ensure that accurate and up-to-date information is maintained.

- Line management of the Fundraising Assistant, including regular 121 meetings and supporting their professional development

The Senior Fundraising Officer will play a key role in the Fundraising Team helping to generate significant and increased income from charitable trusts and foundations and corporate partners.
The role will be responsible for ensuring a regular pipeline of new and existing income from both areas and ensuring partners are stewarded appropriately to maximise engagement with the charity’s aims and objectives.
The post holder will:
- Identify, research and develop new trusts and foundations leads.

- Produce formal reports to funders regularly as directed by grant giving bodies.

- Track record of raising funds from multiple income streams, which could include trusts, foundations, government and public bodies, corporates, individual giving or community fundraising

- Proven track record of working towards and meeting targets and key performance indicators, including income targets

About the role
