About Victoria Hall Harrow
The Victoria Hall Harrow charity started in 1888, with the aim of building a high quality venue for the people of Harrow to come together and to build community. Since then our venue Victoria Hall has been rebuilt twice, most recently reopening to the public in Summer 2021. We also created a new charity some years back (a CIO), transferring the assets of the old charity over. For this reason our Charity Commission listing below is not representative of our current financial position and our assets.
For around 140 years Victoria Hall has provided space for rent to local residents and groups. It has been used for every possible purpose - parties, events, activities, conferences and much more.
More recently the trustee board have embarked on a renewed strategy process, and we are now relaunching the charity as a partnership-first community centre, that identifies local needs and uses our assets to best meet those needs, working with a wide range of partners to serve the local diverse communities.
In June 2024 we agreed our new Vision and Mission. We are still now working through the overall draft of our strategy, which we will be happy to share with you as soon as it is ready in 1st draft form.
Our Vision
A connected and inclusive Harrow, where people and communities thrive.
Our Mission
We facilitate connections, providing space and support for activities and services to identify and meet the needs of Harrow’s diverse communities.
We collaborate with local residents, groups and organisations, using a partnership-first approach.
In order to achieve our new Vision and Mission we now need to recruit our first ever CEO. We thank you for your interest in the role, and we look forward to receiving your application.
Role Summary
As our first CEO, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of Victoria Hall. You will be responsible for leading the organisation through this exciting transition, working closely with the Board of Trustees, staff, partners, and the wider community. This is a unique opportunity to build on our rich history and create a vibrant community hub that makes a real difference in people's lives.
The charity is in a solid financial position, which will enable us with the correct leadership in place to make real progress in our Vision and Mission. Our premises are new and extremely high quality, and very well located. There is a serious lack of high quality community space in Harrow, and we know already that there is significant demand and interest from a whole range of groups who serve the local diverse community.
You will lead us in identifying what the most important and pressing needs are in our local community, and how best to meet those using our resources. You will create effective and impactful partnerships with local residents, community groups and charities, plus businesses and the statutory sector, to meet the needs identified.
Key Responsibilities
-
Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement Victoria Hall's strategic vision, ensuring alignment with our mission and values, with a strong focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion.
-
Operational Management: Oversee the day-to-day operations of the community centre, including financial management, fundraising, marketing, and facilities management.
-
Partnership Development: Build strong relationships with a diverse range of local organisations, businesses, and individuals to create a network of support for Victoria Hall's programs and services.
-
Financial management and governance: Ensuring that we have robust processes in place, and that our finances are well managed.
-
Community Engagement: Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment at Victoria Hall, ensuring that our programs and services meet the needs of diverse community members.
-

-
Governance: Work closely with the Board of Trustees, ensuring that we are effective and develop together. Provide regular reports and updates on Victoria Hall's progress.
As VHH is a very small charity, you will be fully hands on in all possible areas of strategy, governance and operations. You will need to be comfortable across all areas for which you will be responsible.

About Reprieve
Reprieve works with the most disenfranchised people in society. Our aim is simple: to consign the death penalty and abuses carried out in the name of “counter-terrorism” or “national security” to history, drawing public and political attention to these past harms with a view to preventing them from occurring again.
In our view, you can best judge a society by how it treats prisoners, criminal defendants, and the far-flung targets of an ever-changing counter-terror policy. To us, the rule of law means little if we selectively apply it to people we agree with. It is for all of us. Liberty is always eroded at the margins.
Reprieve’s staff is made up of courageous and committed human rights defenders. Founded in 1999, we provide free legal and investigative support to people facing the death penalty and those victimised by states’ abusive counter-terror policies – rendition, torture, arbitrary detention and extrajudicial killing.
We fight our clients’ cases in courts around the world; investigate their mistreatment; and advocate on their behalf, encouraging public and political debate of human rights issues.
Reprieve’s main office is in Whitechapel, London, UK. Reprieve also supports full-time Fellows, who work as lawyers, investigators and campaigners in the countries in which we work. We work closely with a number of partner organisations in jurisdictions all over the world, who provide access to clients, expertise, knowledge and guidance on specific issues or regions. We work in cooperation with relevant government officials, individual lawyers and human rights defenders, as well as individual, corporate and foundation funders to further the cause of our shared goals.
About the Role
The Head of US Death Penalty Projects is responsible for overseeing Reprieve’s work against the death penalty in the United States of America.
Background to Reprieve’s work against the death penalty in the US
Reprieve has worked against the death penalty since our founding. In recent years we have built a particular specialism in issues relating to lethal injection, the most popular execution method in the US. Lethal injection has been touted as a more humane than other methods – a modern, clean, clinical way to execute. This couldn’t be further from the truth. Lethal injection executions go wrong more often than any other execution method, often resulting in prolonged and torturous executions, commonly known as “botched” executions. Through our work we aim to dispel the myth of the humane execution, working with allies across medicine, business and other sectors to end the misuse of medicines and medical technology in executions.
The existing portfolio of work includes litigation, investigation and analysis, corporate engagement, a wide range of public and private advocacy, and developing and maintaining world-leading expertise on execution methods, particularly the jurisprudence and science relevant to lethal injection.
About You
You will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies in which each of Reprieve’s methodologies—investigation, litigation, casework political and public engagement, support for and (where possible and appropriate) advocacy with affected communities—connect with one another to achieve positive outcomes in the death penalty landscape and address structural rights violations.
Location, contract and salary
The role is a full-time, permanent position with a salary of £59,226 per annum less any required deductions for tax and national insurance. Reprieve works across a number of jurisdictions; as such this is a role that may require work outside of core hours from time to time. Reprieve operates a hybrid working model and we require staff to work a minimum of 40% from the London office and the rest of the week from home.
Reprieve is proud to have an open and transparent pay structure, governed by a 2:1 pay ratio between the highest-paid member of staff and the lowest-paid member of staff. We are a flexible employer and offer a range of non-financial benefits to employees. We welcome applications from a range of backgrounds.
Further information and how to apply
Please see the job description and person specification for full details including information on how to apply. Applicants must have the current right to work in the UK. The deadline for applications is 23:59BST on 01 September.
The client requests no contact from agencies or media sales.
Access to higher education and the life-changing opportunities that come from attending the most competitive universities is not equal. 28 in 100 of the most advantaged students progress to the most competitive universities. In contrast, only 2 in 100 of the least advantaged young people access these universities.
We think this is fundamentally unfair. We work across the UK to support less advantaged students to access the most competitive universities, and to succeed when they get there.
Between 2021 and 2026, we will work with 100,000 students across the UK to help them to develop the knowledge, skills and confidence to access the most competitive universities. We will also support 10,000 students from disadvantaged backgrounds to succeed once they enter universities. We hope that you’ll consider joining us, as we work to create a fairer society where no child’s education is limited by their background.

Who we are:
As an award-winning charity, KEEN exists because children and adults with disabilities and additional needs are still not fully included in their communities, and this has to change! We create our own inclusive programme of sessions and projects for our children and adults to support and empower their development, assisted by our enthusiastic, friendly and active volunteer team, support other organisations to make their own provision open to all, and campaign more widely for a fairer inclusive society.
The Role:
Our Project Coordinator for In-Person activities in Oxford is a key leadership role at the heart of our sociable and fun team. You will coordinate all aspects of our inspiring and unique in-person session programme with six sessions a week spanning gardening to sports, recruit and support our exceptional volunteers, and be the primary contact for them and our community.
Each day as the KEEN Coordinator is very different. In one day, you might be a guest speaker in a local school or business, then running a Zig-Zag dinosaur themed crafts session for our under 10’s, before training new volunteers in adaptations they could use in our young adult’s drama session. On another day you might be in meetings with the local authority about enhancing inclusivity, finalising a KEEN fundraising application and then attending a volunteer social in the evening.
If those sounds like worthwhile days that you could see yourself making the most of: you could be our new Programme Coordinator.

We are looking for a compassionate and creative human to become an essential part of our Fundraising team, supporting us in achieving our fundraising strategy and financial targets. They will be passionate about building trusting and meaningful relationships which generate and grow income and committed to telling the story of how youth work changes lives.
Our work is intentional and impactful, and you will need to be confident working and communicating with a lot of people and a lot of different kinds of people. Being self-aware and emotionally attuned will help with this.
Fundraising is human oriented and often reactive. We enjoy a high degree of flexibility and variety in our work. You will have projects of your own to manage autonomously, and regular space to voice what work you would most like to be involved with. Therefore, we are looking for someone with great time management and problem solving skills.
As a team we are excited about our work. Sometimes we have crunch periods, and we need someone who is willing to roll up their sleeves and be proactive and accountable, however we do not typically work over our contracted hours. We deeply value work life balance and support all members of the team to feel fulfilled in their role and ensure that their life outside of work is equally a priority. Time off in lieu will be arranged for any evening or weekend work and we expect and plan for all members of the team to fully utilise and enjoy their annual leave.
Excellent work in this role looks like work that is aligned with our strategic objectives, well prioritised, communicated to the necessary people, and includes time to learn and train. We will value and celebrate your creativity, the care and pride that you take in your work, and how you remain balanced in the workplace.
The Fundraising and Communications Team, which includes marketing, communications, and content generation functions, works across the entire organisation and is led by our Director of Fundraising and Communications and Deputy CEO who has two decades of experience in the voluntary sector and is an energising and kind figure. Our team is committed to role-modelling to ourselves, each other, and young people the very best versions of ourselves and the very best work that we can deliver, which creates positive outcomes for young people.
This is a great opportunity to work across a wide range of fundraising projects within a group that values the contributions, ideas, and wellbeing of each member of our team.
