As our Senior Research Officer, you will be working on an exciting new project to improve primary care access for residents. Your flair for planning and logistics will enable you to both gather data about the experiences of Barnet residents and to collate existing evidence. You’ll also be comfortable producing accessible how-to guidance, to enable people experiencing health inequalities to access services.

The Health and Social Care Act 2012 required each local authority area to set up a Healthwatch organisation. Healthwatch gives people a powerful voice both locally and nationally. At a local level, Healthwatch Barnet works to help people get the best from their health and social care services, whether it's improving them today, or helping to shape them for tomorrow. Healthwatch Barnet is about local voices being able to influence the delivery and design of their services, not just for the people who use them, but anyone who might need to use them in future.

Healthwatch Barnet transferred to Inclusion Barnet on 1st April 2020. It is commissioned by the London Borough of Barnet to provide the following 6 key functions:

· Gather views and understand the experiences of patients and the public

· Make people’s views known

· Promote and support the involvement of people in the commissioning and provision of local care services and how they are scrutinised

· Recommend investigation or special review of services via Healthwatch England or directly to the Care Quality Commission (CQC)

· Provide advice and information (signposting) about access to services and support for making informed choices

· Making the views and experiences of local people known to Healthwatch England (and to other local Healthwatch organisations) and providing a steer to help it carry out its role as national champion

In this role, you will assess the needs of beneficiaries and collaborate with regional specialist teams and external service providers to ensure that support is delivered in an integrated and effective way. Additionally, you will work closely with the Casework Services Manager and Head of Welfare to identify and address local beneficiary needs, helping shape the commissioning of specialist services. You will advise beneficiaries on available support and assist them in accessing the services they need, while maintaining an up-to-date knowledge of statutory benefits. Building strong connections with local organizations to reach beneficiaries in the community will also be a key part of your work.

The role is primarily homebased with will have regular travel around the Derbyshire and Leicestershire for internal meetings and visiting beneficiaries, therefore you will need to live in a location that allows reasonable travel around this area.

There will also be occasional travel nationally to attend training / meetings.

Driving licence is essential requirement for this role.

What you can expect in return

Unfold is led by the people we serve and we get people where they want to be. We’re a bold, agile and growing organisation, with a friendly, energetic and welcoming team. As an established local charity (previously known as Westminster Befriend a Family), we’re powered by volunteers who support young people and families to identify and achieve goals that matter to them. We provide mentoring and peer support groups to people in Westminster, Kensington and Chelsea and the neighbouring boroughs.

We’re open to everyone, but we target those who face the most challenges: 93% of the people we work with describe themselves as coming from a racialized group, 85% of the families we support are single-parent households headed by a woman, and 75% of the children we support are eligible for free school meals. We also run specialized programmes of support for people seeking asylum and those with refugee status. Last year we provided one-to-one mentoring to over 246 people, and group support to a further 252 people. About the Role
As a Programme Officer at Unfold, you’ll ensure that our volunteer mentors feel supported and prepared for their work with young people. Alongside helping to recruit and onboard new mentors, including organising their training and reviewing their progress, you’ll be Volunteer Mentors main point of contact, making sure they have a rewarding and impactful experience. Your work will also include engaging with referrers, parents, and young people themselves, providing guidance and answering questions to ensure everyone feels connected to our mission.

You’ll also be hands-on with our youth programs, coordinating weekly Youth Support Groups and engaging with young people in outreach activities. You’ll work closely with our Programme Manager to build relationships with community organisations and support our Youth Advisory Council. Whether you’re planning group activities, creating outreach opportunities, or helping young people access resources, this role aims to empower youth across London.

You’re passionate about youth development and have a strong understanding of London’s diverse communities, particularly in Westminster and nearby areas. You'll have great communication skills and will be comfortable connecting with people from a range of backgrounds. You'll also be able to positively represent Unfold at events, meetings, and group sessions.

We are delighted to be supporting a national health focused charity to find a part time, temporary Helpline Support Services Volunteer Officer. This role is for 6 months for 21 hours per week and offers hybrid working with only one day per month in their London Office.

You will support with the recruitment, training and development of Helpline Volunteers and Befriending Volunteers. Supporting volunteers in carrying out their roles effectively in providing emotional support, information, and befriending support to people affected by MS.

You will provide support and guidance to volunteers within the Helpline services team including recruitment and training. You will also provide continuous service referral management for national befriending service and provide continuous support to Befriending Volunteers.

You will also support the Helpline Services Volunteer Manager with embedding new volunteer projects into the Helpline and answer enquiries through a range of channels giving up to date, quality, trusted information and emotional support.

The role will require you to contribute to Helpline services out of hours cover between 5-7pm on a weekly basis including supporting volunteers and staff on evening shifts and support with managing safeguarding enquiries as part of the Safeguarding Responder Group including filling in relevant forms and providing relevant. You will also coordinate volunteer recognition events at regular intervals that increase engagement and development.
