Our culture and values
Our vision
Everyone with mental health problems and dementia in our local communities gets the support and respect they deserve.
Our purpose
We will help people to be mentally healthy and work together with those experiencing mental health problems and dementia to improve their quality of life.
Our values
We always demonstrate our core values:
Inclusive in our approach and all we do, so that we effectively meet the needs of our diverse communities.
Responsive to each individual we support and their unique needs, histories and aspirations.
Evolving – demonstrating sustainable and ethical continuous improvement, agility, innovation and effectiveness.
Together – working with our partners and people with lived experience of mental health problems and dementia and their support networks.
Equality, diversity and inclusion policy
At SEL Mind we take inclusion seriously. We recognise that this is an evolving process that requires a continuous review of our approaches, attitudes and general culture.
So what are we doing about it?
In April 2019, we created an Inclusion Review Group (IRG) made up of service users, staff, volunteers, trustees and external experts.
The group creates a more inclusive organisation, with a greater understanding of everyone we support and interact with, resulting in a meaningful, positive change in culture and practice.
After 18 months of detailed work, the group produced the SEL Mind Inclusion Review Report (published October 2020). This report has generated recommendations for us to achieve.
The recommendations focus on a range of areas, including:
- our approach to engagement and recruitment
- our language and imagery
- how relevant and accessible our services are to diverse groups of people.
