Suicide Prevention Frontline Support Internship

London, Greater London (On-site)
Unpaid role, expenses paid
Voluntary
Job description

Body & Soul is an innovative charity that uses a comprehensive, community-based and trauma informed approach to address the life-threatening effects of adverse childhood experiences.  Our community provides a wide range of innovative and creative programmes that support physical, mental and emotional health and well-being. We believe that people should be able to live their lives free from shame, and no one should have their life chances reduced because of traumatic experiences in their past.

This internship will focus on supporting our You Are Not Alone (YANA) programme which is unique in addressing those aged 16 - 35 who have attempted suicide or engaged in serious self-harm. We know how difficult the transition from adolescence to adulthood can be, and this programme is designed to provide vital continuity of support for people who are struggling with suicidality during this particularly sensitive period. The programme offers therapeutic and practical interventions for the young person and their family members to support them during this time e.g. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, community events, casework, and advocacy.  The successful intern will work alongside the YANA team, to support young adults to manage difficult emotions, build relationships and work towards their ‘life worth living’ goals.

Our intern will be…

  • Supporting members to attend programme events.
  • Assisting with the delivery of programming.
  • Providing telephone support for members.
  • Supporting members to understand their current goals and what pathways of support will be helpful for them.
  • Supporting members to navigate difficult moments and emotions.

We are looking for an intern who…

  • Is passionate about gaining experience in the delivery of mental health programmes in a community model.
  • Has relevant experience in frontline mental health services.
  • Is looking to gain further frontline work experience in 1-1 support, holistic health, advocacy and programming.
  • Is willing to take on responsibility and work independently with a creative, proactive and adaptable approach.
  • Has prior knowledge or experience of DBT skills (desirable)
  • Able to commit to a Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday (evening) for 3-months.

This is an unpaid internship; with expenses covered if needed.

We offer regular learning and development opportunities for interns; designed to give a deeper insight into Body & Soul’s unique approach.

This intern role is for our Autumn intake, running from October- December 2024. Interviews will be held on the evening of 25th September.

If you are interested in applying, please send a CV and cover letter by 22nd September.  We look forward to hearing from you!
