Our digital video archive captures personal histories that provide unique insights into significant moments in history. We’re expanding our podcast series, The Veterans’ Voice, and need creative audio production volunteers to help bring these stories to life with professional-quality sound design.

Why volunteer with us?
Do you love working with audio and have a passion for storytelling through sound? Are you looking to gain experience in podcast production? As a volunteer audio engineer, you’ll play a vital role in shaping the sound identity of our podcast series. Your work will involve editing and refining interviews clips and narration, adding music, and integrating sound effects to craft a polished, engaging listening experience. You’ll be joining a supportive team with guidance from experienced producers who launched our first series, providing you with the opportunity to develop your skills and showcase your work.

What’s the role and its impact?
As a volunteer audio engineer, you’ll ensure each episode of The Veterans’ Voice meets a high standard of sound quality. You’ll collaborate closely with the podcast producers to align the audio with the narrative and mood of each episode, creating an immersive and cohesive sound experience. Your work will directly contribute to making veterans’ stories more accessible and engaging for a broad audience.

What you’ll be working on:

  • Editing and enhancing audio recordings to achieve clear, consistent sound quality.
  • Integrating music and sound effects to support storytelling and evoke the right atmosphere.
  • Applying noise reduction, balancing, and mastering techniques for a polished final product.
  • Collaborating with the podcast producers to align audio with the episode’s narrative and flow.
  • Contributing to a consistent sound identity across all podcast episodes.

Skills and experience

  • Proficiency in audio editing software (e.g., Audacity, Adobe Audition, Logic Pro, etc.).
  • Experience in sound design, music integration, and audio mastering.
  • A keen ear for detail and a passion for crafting high-quality audio content.
  • Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work closely with producers and the Legasee team.
  • Prior experience in podcast production or sound editing is a plus.

Training and support
You’ll receive guidance and feedback from team members who produced our first podcast series, helping you enhance your skills. We’ll also provide support with any specific tools or approaches used within our workflow.

What’s in it for you?

  • Hands-on experience in podcast audio production and sound design.
  • The opportunity to contribute to a meaningful project with historical importance.
  • Flexible volunteering that fits around your schedule.
  • Recognition and credit for your contributions in each podcast episode.
  • The chance to develop and showcase your audio production skills in a professional setting.
