About us
Who we are
Since 1996, we’ve transforming the lives of thousands of people suffering each day with the effects of childhood Trauma. Whether it’s someone who has been abused, faced the stigma of life threatening diseases like HIV or grew up in a family with no support, we’ve been there, helping them put the pieces back together.
At Body & Soul, we foster a healing community grounded in love, kindness, and understanding. Our whole-person approach supports each member’s unique journey, addressing immediate challenges and promoting long-term well-being. Through compassionate, open dialogue, we help members identify and resolve pressing issues while building resilience and growth. By strengthening practical, social, and emotional foundations, we empower individuals with the tools they need for a sustainable, fulfilling future.
Equality, diversity and inclusion policy
Let's get to the point. Whilst we have the policies in place, so do many organisations that still manage to create toxic workplace environments. Our culture is shaped around disrupting the power relations that have contributed to the trauma that our members have experienced. The first job of anyone at Body & Soul is to make sure they do not replicate these here. Conventional hierarchies have been dismantled across the team as we choose to develop a therapeutic community that relates to people as members, not patients or service users. There is no special category of 'lived experience' when this exists across all members of the community including staff. Equally, skills and expertise are not exclusive to those fortunate enough to have a particular qualification.
In a community that is a made up of a majority of members who are black or of colour, we do not defer to white, western models of medicalised health as the standard. Through all of our work, we are commited to decolonisation and the creation of new idea of charity that is truly diverse and equitable to all.
