The Actors’ Benevolent Fund supports professional actors and stage managers in times of need, and in 2023 we spent over £2.1M on charitable support. Our bold new Acting for Impact strategy seeks to increase the charity’s reach and impact within the performing arts community, helping many more people and expanding the range of support to result in meaningful and sustainable change. It is an exciting time to be joining the charity, with a new Board of Trustees and the opportunity to make a real difference to a community dedicated to bringing so much meaning and inspiration to others.
This Grants and Services Officer post will be key to supporting the charity to achieve those ambitions. You will work directly with our beneficiaries to deliver support, including grantmaking and developing support networks for individuals through signposting and cross-agency working. Alongside this, you will lead on the development of digital tools and resources for our community, contribute to research and evaluation projects to inform that development, and develop referral routes and relationships with other organisations.
We are looking for someone with experience of grantmaking, knowledge of the state benefits system and able to develop support packages for clients which are responsive to individual needs. Activities also include service design, development and project management. Working as part of a small, friendly team you will need to be able to take an adaptable approach to manage competing priorities. You will have excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build professional relationships with clients, and work collaboratively with colleagues internally and externally.

What the job involves
We’re seeking a Digital Channels Officer to join our Web Operations Team covering maternity leave on a fixed term basis.
In this role, you’ll play a key part in managing content for our website, ensuring that all information is up-to-date and impactful. You’ll be responsible for publishing digital updates via the content management system (CMS) to ensure timely, high-quality, and consistent content across the website. Working closely with colleagues across Prostate Cancer UK, you’ll provide guidance on our online presence and help deliver engaging digital experiences for all our audiences.
Your day-to-day will include editing, proofreading, and publishing content that resonates with our audience. You’ll also help train internal teams on our content management system.
Collaborating with our Web Operations Team, you’ll spot opportunities for improvement and contribute to larger projects, helping us continually improve our site and deliver results more efficiently.
What we want from you
We’re looking for someone with solid experience in writing, editing, and proofreading web content who is comfortable authoring basic HTML and preparing web images with accessibility requirements in mind. You'll be skilled in using content management systems (ideally Umbraco) to build and update web pages.
You’ll need the technical skills to author and edit basic HTML, as well as prepare and edit images for the web. A solid working knowledge of interpreting website analytics, including experience with Google Analytics and search engine optimisation techniques, is essential. You’ll be an excellent communicator, skilled at explaining complex analytics and technical details in a clear, approachable way for non-technical colleagues.
In this role, you’ll also need the ability to prioritise tasks and handle tight deadlines, negotiate effectively, and manage challenging conversations when needed. Experience with online community moderation and staying informed on current web tools and trends will be advantageous as we continuously improve our site.

The Role
Are you passionate about communication and marketing with lots of creative ideas? We’re looking for an experienced Communications & Marketing professional to diversify and grow our UK supporter base. You will be responsible for our communications and digital marketing strategy to drive and increase supporter engagement. Working remotely, you will be an integral part of a small team in the UK, reporting to the Head of Fundraising and collaborating with colleagues in India and Ireland.
Key Responsibilities
- Proactively create captivating and impactful content to support UK fundraising and advocacy objectives to broaden HOPE UK’s online presence and brand awareness.
- To optimise and increase engagement across social media platforms by identifying relevant opportunities to engage with online influencers, patrons and ambassadors, third parties, and key UK supporters in order to raise awareness of HOPE UK’s activities and programmes in Kolkata.
- Scheduling and sharing content provided by HOPE Kolkata, HOPE UK’s Head of Fundraising, and third-party supporters, and adapting this content to create engaging posts across HOPE UK’s platforms.
- Monitoring and managing HOPE UK’s social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, and setting up a new LinkedIn account).Responding and engaging with comments, as needed. The role requires flexibility to enable monitoring channels.
- Managing HOPE UK’s communications calendar and overseeing content to ensure a consistent tone and brand across all channels.
- Ensuring HOPE UK’s compliance with law [website] copyright and data protection.
Experience and Skills
·Experience working in a Communications & Marketing role within the charity sector, preferably an international children’s charity.
·Experience of successfully increasing supporter engagement online and analysing results.
·A sound understanding of SEO, web metrics, analytics, and keyword search.
·Knowledge of various social media channels and understanding of the granularity of audiences.
·Experience of using a range of multi-media tools (e.g., Canva, InDesign) to create engaging content to support fundraising campaigns, increase brand awareness, and help drive donations.
·Knowledge of maximising sponsored campaigns and creating targeted posts (notably, on LinkedIn).
·An aptitude to work both independently and as part of a small team who all work remotely.
·A sound knowledge of English (written and verbal).
·Copywriting experience would be beneficial.
·Good communication and networking skills and an ability to liaise with multiple stakeholders.
·An ability to think both creatively and strategically.
·Experience working with and managing Google Ads/GDN
·Experience of writing and pitching press releases an advantage.
·Knowledge of updating a website (WordPress and WooCommerce).
·Knowledge of a CRM (Beacon) and optimising data integrations and web forms
