We have an opportunity available in the team at MASH for an Outreach Worker specifically focused on supporting women who live in Salford. This role is part time at 21 hours per week and will include one night-time outreach shift per week on the MASH van.

We hold a strong belief in women’s assets, talents, skills and abilities. Through our services we partner with women as they access and navigate services to aid recovery and realise their goals.

MASH is the only organisation in Greater Manchester which exists specifically to support women who sex work. Through our range of services we build trusted relationships with women to keep them safer, healthier and more equipped to take control of their lives.

To work with other members of the MASH team to achieve the following outcomes:

• Women who sex work are heard, understood and experience less stigma
• Other agencies and policymakers understand the needs of women who sex work and are more effective at supporting them

Using a gender and trauma-informed approach, the Salford Outreach Worker will support women sex working on the street and in saunas in Salford. They will deliver outreach one night per week to reach Salford residents street sex working. They will also undertake regular outreach sessions to indoor sex work premises during the day. They will develop professional networks in Salford to share intelligence, cascade information about the support MASH can offer and provide joint support to women.

Role purpose

As part of our strategy, you will be responsible for leading the delivery, direction, and management of our ambitions to empower a more diverse range of young people with opportunities to develop essential leadership and life skills regardless of their background.

You will act as an influential member of the organisation’s Leadership Team to set, establish and deliver the Programmes and Projects Strategy aimed at supporting growth, reach, and impact of Leadership Skills Foundation programmes among underserved and/or under-represented communities and individuals.

In addition to establishing and managing relationships with external stakeholders at national, regional, and local levels, you will work as a pivotal member of the leadership team to embed this area of work across the organisation and benefit thousands of young people across the UK.

This role will require positive and proactive internal working relationships to be created with other teams and colleagues to support organisational objectives and goals.

About EFA

English for Action provides free, participatory, and empowering English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)  classes for migrants in London. Our classes are spaces to build community and support students to organise collectively around issues like employment and housing rights. Our work currently supports around 400 adult migrants across London. We’ve become a national centre of good practice for a radical participatory approach to ESOL, informed by the work of Paulo Freire, and we share this approach through training, research and partnerships. 

Organisation: We are a staff team of 8 people supported by a larger team of volunteers and 9 trustees. EFA promotes shared leadership and collaboration and we aim for our organisational structure to reflect this. In the last 4 years we’ve transitioned away from having a CEO to an executive team to oversee operations and decision-making. As a charity, ultimate responsibility for, and control of, the organisation lies with the Board of Trustees. 

Fundraising at EFA: We have one permanent fundraiser at EFA, who works two days per week on this area of work. The majority of EFA’s funding comes from charitable trusts and foundations but we are also funded directly by some of our partner institutions to provide courses for their members. We receive some local authority/EU funding as well. We raise additional funds through individual giving, corporate relationships and earned income. Calls are caller-led, and you will be there to empower each caller to take back control in their lives.

• With support from the Programme Director, lead the development of People’s Economy’s approach to training and workshops to create an approach and set of standards to be applied across the organisation.
• Stay abreast of developments in training best practice across similar organisations and use this knowledge to further develop People’s Economy’s training approach.
• Develop resources (e.g. types of training exercises) that can be used across People’s Economy’s training work
• Support colleagues and freelancers to implement People’s Economy’s training approach, including through delivering ‘train the trainer’ training and creating learning resources

Training for Changemakers

• With support from the Programme Director, design and develop our training offer.
• Lead the implementation of training, including: ○ Work with the Head of Community to develop processes to recruit and onboard changemakers to training opportunities ○ Design training workshops, working in accordance with People’s Economy’s community education framework and principles ○ Oversee the delivery of training workshops facilitated by other staff and freelancers 
• Work collaboratively with the Programme Team to ensure a joined up approach across our work with changemakers

Develop paid training work

• With support from the Programme Director, take a strategic approach to identifying and developing opportunities to undertake paid training work that can both meet People’s Economy’s goals and generate unrestricted income for the organisation
• Hold key relationships, as agreed with the Programme Director, with organisations and individuals who are current and potential clients for paid training work

Supporting other work strands

• Feed in from a training perspective to the development of People’s Economy’s changemaker community of practice led by the Head of Community
• Feed in from a training perspective to the development and implementation of the organisational communications strategy

Managing projects and people

• Work with the Head of People and Operations to recruit and manage a pool of freelancer Associate Trainers to help deliver People’s Economy’s training work, and lead the training of freelancers to do this work
• Manage freelancers contributing to People’s Economy’s training work and any staff roles which (in future) report to Head of Training
• Manage (or contribute to) non-programme projects that contribute to achieving People’s Economy’s goals, as agreed with the Programme Director
• Work collaboratively with the Programme Team to ensure a joined up approach across People’s Economy’s work

Financial management and income generation

• With support from the Programme Director, develop and manage budgets when leading programmes and projects
• With support from the Programme Director, contribute to income generation by leading the development of agreed identified opportunities, including by holding key relationships with existing and potential funders

Overview:

Following the successful application of a National Lottery award, we are seeking two dedicated and compassionate Peer Support Group Development Officers to set up and sustain local peer support groups for people living with and affected by prostate cancer. These roles focus on building on our established networks to expand peer support in defined areas, facilitating group formation, and enhancing service delivery through strategic outreach and resource development.

Key Responsibilities:

• Group formation and support: Oversee the setup and operation of 10-12 self-sustaining and independent peer support groups within your assigned region across the lifetime of the three-year project. Ensure smooth delivery, monitoring, and evaluation of group activities. Support existing group leaders and organisers to reach more people living with and affected by prostate cancer with tools and resources.
• Volunteer Coordination: Recruit, train, and support volunteer Support Group Leaders. Assist in the co-production of training materials and resources, aimed at creating self-sustainable groups.
• Community Engagement: Conduct outreach to map existing support services and facilitate the integration of these services with the peer support groups. Host local engagement events to boost volunteer recruitment.
• Data and Case Management: Use a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system to support high-quality volunteer and case management, ensuring accurate data collection to support service outcomes.
• Training and Development: Develop and deliver tailored training programmes for volunteers based on the specific needs of Group Leaders and Organisers. Set up regional forums for sharing best practices and peer networking. Encourage use of Members Portal to share good practice.
• Documentation and Compliance: Ensure compliance with Best Practice Guidance document. Ensure adherence to safeguarding policies to maintain safe governance of peer support groups.

Skills and Qualities Required:

• Strong Facilitation and Communication Skills: Ability to engage effectively with diverse groups. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.
• Project Management: Proven skills in managing complex projects with multiple stakeholders. Ability to meet deadlines and manage a varied workload.
• Volunteer Management: Experience in recruiting, training, and supporting volunteers in community settings. Knowledge of best practices in volunteer management.
• Influencing: Experience of influencing a wide range of partners and stakeholders, and in particular clinicians and voluntary and community providers within the health and wellbeing community.
• Community Development: Experience of developing and delivering community services with a range of stakeholders, including health and social care workers, commissioners, local authority and community and voluntary partners.
• Data-Driven Approach: Experience with data collection and CRM systems and a commitment to data-driven service evaluation.
• Community Sensitivity: Experience collaborating with people with a lived experience of cancer or other long-term conditions. Ability to understand and empathise with community needs.

Educational Qualifications:

• Relevant qualification or experience in Community Development, Psychology, Public Health, or a related field is preferred.

A fantastic opportunity has arisen to join our bank of casual workers as a Welfare Officer, providing cover as required for the SSAFA RAF Service across the UK.

Our Bank Welfare Officers will provide direct and impactful welfare support to RAF personnel and their immediate family on an ad hoc basis when a full-time member of the team is unavailable to do so.

As a trusted and confidential source of support, you will assist our service users with challenges they are facing, from mental ill-health, difficult relationships, domestic abuse, financial and cost-of-living concerns, resettlement, housing, childcare, equality issues, bereavement, military discharge or deployment and many more - no day will be the same, as such this is a great opportunity to develop your knowledge and skills within the Welfare sector.

Our intervention is provided with consent on a non-statutory basis, and you will work with and engage our service users to develop appropriate interventions for individual outcomes.

Our service is transitioning to become more accessible and inclusive, digital technology plays a key role in this, as such you may be asked to use digital technologies to complement and enhance processes and service user experience.

You will work closely with RAF welfare teams, local authorities, health, education, civilian agencies, charities and other military organisations to ensure the best outcome for the service user.

About you

To thrive in this role you will have relevant experience of supporting adults, families and children/young people. You will be able to take a flexible and creative approach to problem solving. You will have excellent communication skills and be able to deliver presentations with confidence.

You will have used Microsoft Office 365 to a high standard. It is important that you have experience of planning and managing your own workload, with minimal supervision.

It would be advantageous if you have experience of carrying out assessments, preparing plans, monitoring and reviewing outcomes.

There will be some travel required and therefore you will need to be able to drive, have access to your own car and be flexible to spend nights away from home occasionally within the UK at short notice.
