About us

Who we are

Mission Statement:

SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity is a trusted source of support for serving personnel, veterans and their families in their time of need. Our vision is to have a society in which the Armed Forces, veterans and their families can thrive. Our core values are Commitment, Understanding, Integrity and Compassion.

About SSAFA:
SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity is a trusted source of support for the Armed Forces community in their time of need. In 2023 our trained teams of volunteers and employees helped more than 53,000 people, including veterans, serving personnel (regulars and reserves) and their families.

Since 1885 we have provided welfare and wellbeing assistance that is tailored to our Armed Forces community. We know about the unique demands of service life, whether in the UK or overseas, and we continue to meet the demand for support enabling the entire Armed Forces community to thrive.

SSAFA understands that behind every uniform is a person. And we are here for that person and their family, any time they need us and in any way they need us. Because no one should ever battle alone.

Our culture and values

We help our people to develop and improve their skills and knowledge so that they grow professionally and personally and contribute to achieving our goals. We are working to create a learning organisation through training and coaching. We address learning needs at all levels across the organisation through provision of a wide range of programmes, from leadership and management development to customer service and time management. Our objective is to help our people realise their full potential.

Equality, diversity and inclusion policy

SSAFA is committed to embedding Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion across the whole organisation. SSAFA recognises that diversity is integral to our workforce and we need to ensure we can offer a safe environment free from judgement whilst continuously evolving our services and empowering individuals to be themselves; whether they are a beneficiary, employee or volunteer.
