Sport and physical activity have the power to inspire, enable, build self-esteem, and provide success. They can improve physical health, employability, mental well-being and social community inclusion. However, many barriers prevent disabled people from accessing sport. These include a lack of coaching, clubs, transport, equipment and support networks, as well as high costs and negative perceptions of disabled people participating in sport.
We are a fairly new charity established in 2021, with big ambitions for the future. We have started with small but meaningful projects. We are reaching out to disabled people, learning from our projects, and focusing on our vision and purpose.
We are now looking for someone to join our small but mighty team as our Project Officer. This is a new role, and is crucial to the development of the charity over the next few years. You will set up and deliver new projects to enable disabled people to get active and access sporting opportunities. To do this you will develop relationships with partners, funders and the disability community. This role has the potential for growth and development. You will have a huge influence in shaping our project delivery so that we can continue supporting disabled people to achieve their ambitions through sport.

Main purpose of this role
Our mentoring work provides a person-centred approach, supporting disabled people to access the life-changing power of movement and sport. We train mentors (who are mostly disabled) and match them with disabled people who face multiple barriers and are likely to remain inactive without intervention. They work together to break down these barriers and connect with local sports clubs and initiatives. We delivered our first mentoring programme in Nottingham and are now looking to expand the programme across the East Midlands and other areas in England and Wales. Alongside this we want to expand our already established Supported Runner Programme to enable disabled people to participate in shorter community runs, and to adapt the model to support disabled people into other sports.
We are looking for a proactive, confident and dynamic individual to help us set up and deliver new mentoring and supported sports projects to enable disabled people to get involved in physical activity in their communities. You will join our small creative and supportive team within an empowering, values-led organisation that is person-centred and ambitious to empower disabled people.
We are looking for someone with significant experience of delivering projects at a community level, recruiting and supporting volunteers and project beneficiaries. You will be able to work independently, take initiative and achieve results. You will keep up to date with developments in the disability and sports sectors in order to inform the development or our projects and ensure we are seeking opportunities for partnerships and funding. You will work confidently with a wide range of individuals and stakeholder groups, including disabled people, volunteers, community groups, disability organisations and local services.
Project Officer – Job description
Job Title: Project Officer
Reports to: Chief Executive Officer

Project set up and delivery
- Develop and implement project plans that incorporate KPIs, milestones and responsibilities, ensuring deadlines are met and plans amended as appropriate.
- Develop effective systems, policies and procedures to support project delivery.

- Deliver workshops and training sessions to volunteers and freelance mentors.

- Develop and implement feedback, monitoring and evaluation mechanisms to measure the impact and outcomes of projects.
- Report against KPIs, outcomes and impact measurements, providing regular updates on projects to the CEO and colleagues.
- Work with the CEO to produce insight and evaluation reports, including data and case studies for trustees, funders and stakeholders.
- Use the learning from projects to improve delivery mechanisms and to inform the development of future projects.
- Work with the Digital Communications and Marketing Officer to collect photographic and video content, quotes and testimonials for use in reports, publicity and fundraising appeals.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Salford CVS to support our grants and investment programmes.
We are looking to recruit a part-time (30 hours per week) Grants Development Worker on a 12-month fixed-term maternity cover contract.

Responsibilities

As Policy and Public Affairs Officer, you will work closely with our Head of Public Affairs to influence decision makers in the NHS, and UK and Welsh governments. You will be joining the charity at an exciting time as we develop a new influencing strategy. You will help shape this work, while having opportunity to work with external stakeholders, including health professionals, civil servants and other charities, all whilst developing your skillset and policy and public affairs experience. We have had success over the past year in parliament in highlighting the issues faced by people living with Huntington’s disease, and we are now focused on building this work to help drive policy change.

About the role
SSAFA’s Network & Community team, operating across the UK, are proud to announce this role as part of their strategic development plans.
This is a new fundraising opportunity to help provide support for serving personnel, veterans and their families ensuring that no-one battles alone.
Supported by the Statutory Grants Manager, this role is fundamental in developing, supporting and championing new and existing fundraising from health providers and local authorities. The aim is to increase income generation in this area whilst raising SSAFA’s profile within local authorities and health care provision. The 2024 summer riots laid clear the susceptibility within communities for far-right narratives. Locally, many stakeholders are struggling with providing alternatives that combat this framing.
As part of our wider community resilience work, we will be hosting a series of community events across the country, with the aim of celebrating local identity, strengthening social connection and boosting resilience to far-right agitation. We have a history of planning these events in the communities that need them the most, for example in Bradford.
About the role
The Events Administrators (X2) will be assisting our Community Outreach Officer to deliver community events across the country in our target areas, at the end of May/beginning of June. This includes 4 confirmed events in Southport, Sunderland, Wigan and Port Talbot, with the potential for lighter-touch facilitation to support volunteer-run events in up to 5 more areas.
This role will involve frequent travel to our target areas to meet with local partners. Willingness to work with a variety of stakeholders is important. The role will include liaising with local authorities, national and local organisations and grassroots community activists to deliver the events. An understanding that communities and community groups are the experts on their own needs is crucial – solutions should be developed with, not for, those most impacted.
Key responsibilities
- Work with the Community Outreach Officer to develop and deliver from start to finish a number of community events in target areas across the country.
- Help to identify and maintain strong working relationships with event contributors, ensuring a diverse range of local stakeholders are involved in organisation.
- Ensure all event logistics are handled professionally, on time, and within budget, including contributions from external partners and local community stakeholders.
- Act as the key point of contact for external suppliers and venues.
- Contribute to the design, production and delivery of event advertisement material.
- Ensure events meet all accessibility requirements.
- Assist the Community Outreach Officer in proactively tracking and monitoring event expenditure and income.
- Regularly travel to target areas to meet local stakeholders involved in event design.
