About Guildford Cathedral

Guildford Cathedral is a sacred space and a community of people who engage with God and the wider world for the common good. The Role 

The Shop Assistant will support the Shop Manager by opening the Shop on one day per week and other days by mutual agreement. The post holder works enthusiastically as part of the Cathedral’s team of staff and volunteers to help deliver our vision. Lone working is sometimes required but another Staff member (Virger) will always be on site and contactable. 

Key Responsibilities

• Support the Shop Manager in daily operations.
• Supervise and support volunteers.
• Process sales, including cash and card payments.
• Maintain shop cleanliness, tidiness, and stock presentation.
• Assist customers and handle inquiries.
• Manage stock, orders, and accounts with the Shop Manager.
• Ensure effective administration of sales and inventory.
• Collaborate with key stakeholders, including management and volunteers.

Administration and compliance

• To ensure adherence to The Children’s Trust policies and procedures, in particular ensuring full compliance of the shops in line with all Health & Safety legislation, Trading Standards, Risk Assessments, Gift Aid, Lottery and all other legal or statutory requirements:
• Assist in controlling shop expenditure through effective cost control of weekly expenses.
• Ensure minimum losses of both stock and cash by following bank and till procedures and safeguarding the property of The Children’s Trust at all times.

We are looking for a Christian who is highly organised with excellent leadership skills. You will have a passion for helping those who are vulnerable, disadvantaged and struggling on low income.

The Foodshop is an initiative of Sutton Community Works based in St Nicholas Shopping Centre in Sutton aimed at supporting those struggling on low income. Members pay £4 a visit and get access to approx. £27 worth of fresh, chilled, frozen, and ambient foods.

We normally serve 120 customers a week during our opening times of 10-12noon Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. It is the aim over time that you would only work alternate Saturdays.

This is achieved through a small staff team and 50 volunteers who are mainly drawn from local churches and whom you will manage. You will be responsible for maintaining the Christian ethos and culture of the Foodshop. As Manager you will have pastoral responsibility for staff and volunteers which will involve setting a culture of prayer before, during and after sessions and offering pastoral support and prayer where approptiate to staff and volunteers.  You will be responsible for the smooth day to day running of the Food Shop which includes managing food stock levels. You will be part of a wider Sutton Community Works staff team and be expected to join staff prayers every Monday morning and regularly lead devotions and prayer.

Our aim is to enable residents out of Food Poverty through the Foodshop and linking them with further support to address underlying issues. This includes offering prayer; spiritual support and linking customers in with churches groups within the borough.

You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the passion and heart to serve those in need.

We’re looking for an Assistant Shop Manager to help lead our Waltham Cross retail shop to success. You’ll work with a small talented team of volunteers to deliver exceptional customer experiences, drive sales, and make a real impact in your local community. Every day will bring new challenges and opportunities as you champion the PDSA brand, generate vital donations, and raise awareness of our incredible mission.

What You’ll Do

As our Assistant Shop Manager, you’ll:

• Partner with the Shop Manager to maximise profits through excellent customer experiences, efficient stock management, and smart use of performance data.
• Inspire and develop a team of volunteers, fostering creativity and innovation.
• Drive a culture of continuous improvement, using KPIs and competitor insights to refine what works.
• Be passionate about PDSA as a charity and raise awareness of what we do with every customer

We're looking for an inspirational people person to join us as a Assistant Shop Manager in our Muswell Hill Boutique by Shelter shop. This is an exciting opportunity, and we'd like you to join us to help raise vital funds for homeless and badly housed people.

You will work closely with the Shop Manager to ensure the shop looks welcoming, visually appealing and the team of volunteers are motivated and keen to engage with customers and maximise sales.

About the role

You will assist the Shop Manager in the recruitment, support and development of a strong community focused shop team and empower them to maximise Shelter's income. Representing Shelter in your local community, ensuring that you and your team share your knowledge of Shelter's cause with customers, volunteers, donors and potential Shelter clients will also be important aspects of the role. 

You will always ensure a safe, clean, bright and happy environment for your team to work in and for your customers to shop in, in turn attracting potential donors and volunteers.

About you

You are a naturally energetic person with an enthusiasm for managing and empowering people.

Your extraordinary motivational skills will enable you to inspire your team to increase sales and control costs. Above all, you are ready to take on a new challenge and have a keen interest in Shelter's cause.

We’re looking for someone friendly and personable, who can work well as part of a team and is proficient using Microsoft Office application and other systems used.

At Great Western Air Ambulance Charity, we’re going big on charity retail. We already have nine shops located in Westbury-on-Trym, Yate, Cheltenham, Gloucester, Cinderford, Bath, Thornbury and Keynsham but plan to open up to four new shops a year over the next five years, giving our charity a physical presence in the heart of communities we have served since 2007. Our Portishead shop is one of our next to open, so this is a superb opportunity.

The shops will sell a variety of goods, as well as being a hub for our charity activity locally. Our shops need to perform well financially to help fund our lifesaving service, but we also want them to be a place where everyone feels welcome, the local community can learn life-saving skills and former patients or supporters can pop in for a chat.

We are looking for an experienced retail team member who can support the financial delivery, team engagement and community presence in our new Portishead shop. In return, we offer a competitive salary, the opportunity to be part of an amazing retail team and involvement in the exciting variety that retail growth will bring. We also believe strongly in developing individuals’ leadership skills and provide development opportunities.
