About us
Who we are
Sutton Community Works (SCW) is a Christian charity founded in 2010 out of a partnership between churches across the borough. Our vision is for our faith in action projects to contribute to a safe and flourishing community in Sutton. We also organise prayer for Sutton, bringing Christians together at our prayer events.
Our work focuses on areas including food poverty, young people, rough sleepers and homelessness. In all our work, our ethos is to love God and others in all we do and say, ensuring people feel seen, heard, understood, and helped.
Our current long-term projects are:
- - Sutton Foodbank
- - Sutton Community Food Shop
- - Sutton Street Pastors
- - Sutton School Pastors
- - Partnering with Sutton Housing Team to support people in emergency or temporary accommodation
We also run some short-term projects, like our winter night shelter which last ran January-March 2025.
Some of our projects are linked with national networks that offer some resources and training. Locally, as a trusted organisation we have built strong relationships with the council, police and other organisations in Sutton, partnering with key organisations on projects to create maximum impact.
Our projects are delivered by around 200 amazing, dedicated volunteers who are overseen and supported by our small staff team, which consists of:
- Director
- Executive Assistant
- Operations Manager (particularly overseeing our food poverty projects)
- Street Pastor Coordinator
- Food Shop Manager
- Food Shop Stock Coordinator
- Food Shop Saturday Supervisor
We also have 7 supportive Trustees, each bringing valuable experience to SCW.

Our culture and values
Our Staff Culture
Led by our Director, Mark, we are a friendly, caring and welcoming team, and have regular staff socials through the year. We work hard but we look after each other too, and meet regularly for 1 to 1 support and as a staff team to pray together.
We are proud to be living out our faith serving our community and love sharing stories of how we have seen God working powerfully in our projects and the lives of people we have supported.
Our Values
At the heart of our values is being Christ-centred. That means putting Christ at the centre of our decision-making, our interactions and working practices
Customer Focus
Putting the needs of those we serve at the heart of our projects and to serve them equally and with excellence.
Hardworking
Going the extra mile in all we do.
Resilience
Rewarding, inspiring, caring for, and equipping our staff and volunteers to have a work-life blend that builds resilience.
Inspiring others to change.
Going beyond meeting the immediate needs and to challenge and change underlying causes through collaboration with others which may involve advocacy.
Serving together
Valuing staff and volunteers through clear recruitment, induction and training processes and regular team building through work, prayer, and social meetings.
Trusted organisation
Excelling in governance to maintain and build a strong reputation with external partners and beneficiaries and to have clear, safe, and transparent working practices for staff and volunteers.
Equality, diversity and inclusion policy
Our approach applies to recruitment and selection, training, conditions of work, pay and all other aspects of employment or volunteering. After taking into account any occupational requirement, entry into employment and any promotion or change of post within SCW is determined by personal merit and ability, as relevant to SCW’s mission and purpose.
