Purpose of the post:

Ensuring the delivery of high quality financial transactional services and operational reporting across the Group combining strong financial control with a service culture approach to delivery. This post will provide leadership of our key operational services across income and expenditure. In addition, this role oversees the procurement function at LSBU.

Increasingly these services will be provided across the LSBU Group, encompassing the University (LSBU), South Bank Colleges (SBC) and South Bank Academies (SBA) and this role will support the transition to more shared financial systems, policies, processes and services over the next few years.

Key Relationships:

Under the leadership of the Group CFO and jointly with the other senior leadership roles within FMI, this role will:

• set the performance and service standards for FMI, role model the principles set out in the LSBU Group behavioural framework, deliver against agreed objectives and targets and deliver excellent customer service
• Establish and maintain effective senior team working within FMI, providing collective leadership, strategic direction and overall management of FMI
• Assist the LSBU Group Executive in the wider leadership, direction and management of the University and Group.

In addition, the Group Associate Director of Financial Services has responsibility for the following areas:

• overseeing aspects of Group financial service and control including Income, Fees & Collections, Payments, Payroll, Pensions, Procurement and Finance Systems
• maintaining Group Financial Regulations and relevant financial policies and procedures.
• ensuring efficient and accurate processing of all financial transactions in line with financial regulations, policies and procedures
• ensuring the full and efficient provision of fees and bursaries services are provided and that billing is accurate, prompt and supports effective collection of fees and accommodation payments
• ensuring that appropriate credit control reporting and activity is undertaken in order that all amounts owed to the Group are collected
• ensuring that payments to staff, suppliers and other payees are processed accurately and on time
• ensuring the effective and efficient delivery of financial systems across the Group, currently Unit4 Business World / Agresso and TM1. Ensure with IT that the environment is secure, available and well administered.
• investigating and reporting on cases of suspected fraud and financial irregularity
• overseeing the development and delivery of compliant, effective and flexible procurement processes and services across the Group
• preparing and presenting papers to the Group Executive and Governing Body/ Group Board Committees as required
• ensuring appropriate supervision, appraisal and learning and development throughout the Financial Services section
• undertaking any other appropriate duties as may be necessary in the interests of the Group or FMI as agreed with the group CFO.
• These responsibilities apply to all entities within the Group. For those entities which have local financial management and control arrangements which are not managed directly by this post the role holder is expected to work closely with those responsible e.g. the SBC/A Vice Principal (Finance & Performance).

SELECTION CRITERIA:

Essential selection criteria:

• A good honours degree or equivalent qualifications/experience
• Significant experience in the design and delivery of financial services at a large and complex organisation. Experience in HE or similar sector preferable but not essential
• Proven track record of service delivery and customer service excellence
• Strong understanding of credit control processes and commercial and more collegiate approaches to debtors and recovery of funds due
• Experience of commercial negotiations and delivery of change projects for the provision of new or improved financial services, finance partnerships and/or transactional assistance
• Strength and quality of leadership and the personal skills required to develop and lead an effective and well-motivated, professional and multi-disciplinary team through a period of change
• Demonstrable management skills, including the ability to set a clear direction; give positive and negative feedback constructively; delegate; and manage both teams and individuals
• Experienced in the use of automations, ticketing systems and other efficient means of providing and supporting high performing services
• Technically sound, including on current regulatory and financial reporting issues and developments including fraud, AML and KYC requirements and best practice

About You

We are looking for an experienced digital, data and technology professional who has substantial professional experience in the field. About the Role 

This is the primary role with responsibility for the delivery and assurance of core digital, data, technology, and related functions at the Royal College of Anaesthetists, at both a strategic and implementation level. The post-holder will report to the College’s CEO, sit on the Executive Team, and contribute across the College via staff engagement and through a range of committees and boards, including the Board of Trustees.

Key to the role are three functions:

1. Ensuring the security and fitness for purpose of College’s digital, data and technology estate.

We are looking for an exceptional Finance & Operations Director, for an interim one-year period, to help us ensure that all aspects of the charity and the Centre run smoothly and efficiently, and to provide effective financial management.

The Community Engagement Department enables our student community leaders to gain the knowledge, skills and connections for themselves and their student communities to thrive.  

Working with staff across the Community Engagement Department, the Training Coordinator works closely with the Training Manager to support staff to design and deliver high quality, impactful training for our 3000 student community leaders across 400+ student groups, 1000 student representatives, and our 6 full-time elected Student Officers, among other student communities.

• Internal Controls and Reporting: Oversee high-level financial reporting processes, working with the Finance Manager to ensure clarity, accountability, and strategic alignment. Support the preparation of financial reports for key stakeholders, including the Board, Senior Leadership Team, and donors.
• Annual Reporting and Compliance: Lead the preparation of Amna’s annual report, highlighting achievements and financial performance. Provide guidance on audit and internal control processes, in coordination with the Finance Manager, to maintain high compliance standards.
• Due Diligence and Partnerships: Coordinate with the Finance Manager on due diligence for new partner recruitment, upholding Amna’s financial and operational standards.

Oversight of People and Culture:

• Responsible for the recruitment and retention strategy.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Expert qualification (Qualified accountant) or in at least one relevant area demonstrating advanced proficiency and specialized knowledge.
• Minimum of 8-10 years of progressive experience in managerial roles within international/NGO organizations, with a focus on HR, administration, IT, financial management, risk management and legal affairs.
• Understanding of UK Charity Commission regulations.
• Experience with cloud services and knowledge of IT policies and procedures.
• Deep understanding of DEI principles and proven experience in championing DEI initiatives within organizations.
• Extensive experience in financial planning, budgeting, and grant management within the NGO sector.
• Expertise in conducting risk assessments, developing risk management plans, and ensuring compliance with international and local regulations.

Remuneration Package

1. For applicants based in the UK: 60,000 GBP per annum.

Reporting to our Chief Executive and working closely with the Corporate Partnerships team (CPT), Trusts & Foundations Fundraiser and Communications team, you’ll generate income from existing and new corporate trusts and foundations and develop and manage our fundraising plan for corporate fundraising, including charity of the year and employee fundraising/giving. You will generate income from these sources to contribute towards the 2024-25 fundraising target of £278,000, rising to £348,000 in 2025-26 in which you’ll have an individual target.

Chapter One is a growing charity dedicated to ensuring every child has access to one-to-one reading support at the time they need it most. 

Our innovative Online Reading Volunteers Programme aims to support 3,300 children facing disadvantage during the 2024-25 academic year, pairing five to eight-year-old children with reading support volunteers from over 140 local and national businesses. Grief Encounter is a mid-sized national bereavement charity. Joining us as our HR Advisor will give you the opportunity to work as a true HR generalist, with a range of duties from recruitment and on-boarding to running internal training for our staff team and co-ordinating our volunteers.

This is a busy role, reporting to the Head of HR.  We are looking for someone with HR experience, who is CIPD qualified, attentive to detail and who can work well with a minimum of supervision. Ideally, you will also be someone who is willing to get involved in all aspects of our work:  That could mean standing in a wet park shouting encouragement to our sponsored runners or helping organise an office social event.

The role is currently full time with the opportunity to work up to two days per week from home.  Consideration will also be given to part time working, depending on experience.

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

General: 

• Provides advice and guidance in response to internal and external HR related enquiries or requests for help/information.
• Maintains and updates HR database (including records of sensitive data) in accordance with GDPR principles. Produces statistical reports on key HR metrics, as required for monitoring purposes. (Headcount, turnover, diversity, absence etc).
• Supports the Head of HR in updating staff policies in line with changes in employment law and drafts guidance notes for approval.  Ensures agreed policies, procedures and guidance notes are appropriately shared within the Charity.
• With guidance from the Head of HR, supports managers handling performance improvement, grievance and disciplinary issues, including collating information and conducting investigations as required. 
• Takes notes at meeting as required. (HR Forum, Staff Consultation Group, Disciplinary Hearings, Grievance and Performance meetings).
• Assists with ongoing review of terms and conditions, benefits etc.  researching and making suggestions for improvements  within available budget.
• Manages the HR Admin inbox (for job applications, general queries, requests and possible complaints).  Alerts Head of HR to any issues or complaints.
• Collates invoices and receipts etc. in relation to HR expenses, as required, to ensure timely payment by Finance team.
• Participates in ad-hoc HR projects.

Recruitment:

• Advises hiring managers on recruitment processes and best practice.  Sources candidates, assists in shortlisting and responds to candidates as required.  Produces offer letters and contracts for successful applicants.

Employment Checks:

• Manages DBS clearance process and other ‘right to work’ checks for new and existing staff, volunteers and contractors, including insurance and qualification checks.  Manages referencing process.

Volunteers:

• Manages the recruitment of volunteers and maintains the volunteering database.  Assists with the allocation of volunteers to appropriate activities.  Generates reports on volunteer numbers and activities for senior management and for funding bids.

On-boarding:

• Prior to start date, coordinates with the Charity’s external IT support company to ensure all new hires will have appropriate equipment and file access when they commence work. (Employees, and freelance contractors).
• Organises induction programme for first two weeks of employment including setting up meetings with key staff (CEO, Departmental Directors etc.), conducting office orientation and familiarising staff member with health and safety, payroll and HR policies and proceudures etc. including mandatory staff training.
• Reviews and updates on-boarding processes as needed.

Training:

• Manages the Charity’s Educare system and reports on mandatory training compliance across the Charity.
• Designs training sessions/briefings on HR policies and procedures for approval by Head of HR.  Organises and runs sessions for staff, including ‘Lunch and Learn’ and drop in advice sessions.
•  Assists Departmental Directors with arrangements for external training, as requested.

This is an excitign opportunity to lead our Youth Work programme and Day Centre provision at NHYC. This position is a six-month fixed-term contract to cover a staff member going on sabbatical. The contract is planned to run from February-August 2025. We are looking for someone who is able to maintain stable and consistent leadership for the team throughout that period, is a quick learner, and confident overseeing multiple programmes and activities. Given the short length of the contract, we encourage applications from those who may not have been in a more senior leadership position before and would like the opportunity to gain experience.  It would also suit anyone with prior experience who is keen to work in a dynamic environment and is passionate about making a tangible difference in the lives of young people facing homelessness.
