About us

Who we are

Coram has been helping vulnerable children since 1739. Today, as we prepare for the 350th anniversary of the birth of our founder, Thomas Coram, we help more than one million children, young people, families and professionals every year.

Coram's vision is that every child has the best possible chance to live a fulfilling life. We support children and young people from their earliest days to independence, creating a change that lasts a lifetime. We help build their confidence; we help them to develop skills; we uphold their rights and we find loving adoptive families for the most vulnerable

Our culture and values

Our mission

Our mission is to create positive change that lasts a lifetime for children and young people. We do this through:

  • Direct delivery of services to hundreds of thousands of children, young people and their families every year
  • Campaigning and advocating for the policies and best practice that our direct experience and research tell us will improve the life chances of children and young people
  • Enabling children and young people to have a voice and a stake in their futures and achieve change for themselves today and future generations
  • Collaborating with sector professionals and all relevant organisations to ensure they have the tools to deliver what works best for children and young people

Better policies, better practice

The impact of the pandemic has underlined just how much there is to do to build back childhood in the UK. It has also highlighted that children and young people often lack a consistent voice dedicated to influencing the debate in their interests.

We believe our experience and range of programmes makes us uniquely placed to support government and policymakers. Our experience informs our vision to become the Coram Institute for Children, the UK’s first centre dedicated to improving the life chances of children by informing and influencing policy and practice.

Equality, diversity and inclusion policy

The values of the Coram Group are; committed, respectful, professional, dynamic and credible.

Our mission is to develop, deliver and promote best practice in the support of children and young people.

Our vision is that every child has the best possible chance to lead a fulfilling life. We champion what matters most for children, creating better chances, and a brighter, happier future.

The Coram Group values, mission and vision directly link into our commitment to providing equal opportunities in employment and to avoiding any kind of discrimination in; our work place, our service provision and delivery, in the our products, such reference materials for sector professionals and practitioners who support children and young people.
