About YAUK
Youth Advantage UK is a charitable organization that uses a research-led approach to inform policy work and projects
that aim to promote and further the human rights of young people aged 11 to 25 across the United Kingdom.
Please note that this is a VOLUNTEER role.
We won't accept applications from individuals residing outside of the UK as we operate on the principle of bettering the lives of young people in the UK. Therefore, we require our volunteers to have an understanding of what it is like to live in the UK.
This is an opportunity for someone who holds a PhD or Research Master’s degree to join our team as a Research Manager, and use their experience in guiding and managing our research function(s). Initially there will be a focus on managing the preliminary research function, which carries out research on specific topics to best inform, guide and direct our work in protecting the rights and interests of young people.
Responsibilities

SOCIAL SCIENCE RESEARCHERS (SSR)
As a member of The Working Group research team, our Social Science Researchers (SSR) study the human rights liberties and suppressions of women and girls within each country to identify and address social issues. They implement and manage research projects, collect and analyse data, and report findings of said research. Their work helps shape IWI’s policy decisions, social reforms, and human interactions.
RESPONSIBILITIES
o Understand the needs of the project, i.e. the research questions it needs to answer;
o Design an appropriate methodology to deliver the project;
o Design and write survey questionnaires;
o Apply a range of research techniques to gather relevant information, including document analysis, surveys, case studies and interviews (face-to-face, telephone and online);
o Liaise with and direct social research field interviewers to gather information;
o Gather information by directing or carrying out qualitative fieldwork;
o Conduct reviews of relevant literature and evidence;
o Analyse and evaluate research and interpret data using a range of analysis packages;
o Prepare, present and disseminate results in the form of reports, briefings, research papers and presentations;
o Offer research-based briefings and advice, which may involve writing action plans;
o Advise external bodies on social policy;
o Prepare and present tenders for new research projects or respond to research tenders prepared by others.

Community researchers wanted to help East London Waterworks Park ensure our community-owned park is inclusive and welcoming for all.
East London Waterworks Park is a volunteer-led charity that has won a 2024 New London Architecture award and raised £2m towards buying land from the Department for Education to transform the 14-acre Thames Water Depot on Lea Bridge Road on the border of Waltham Forest and Hackney, into a new biodiverse park with natural swimming ponds, forest schools and community spaces.

Finance Controller or Finance Assistant. Finance tasks supporting our growing charity, working with our external Book Keeper, outsourced payroll service, and the Board Treasurer. This job will be great for a pro-active social media “story teller”, looking to build their own profile by ‘owning’ this new area of Evolve’s work. You’ll need to be creative, organised, and literate, with a very self-motivated approach. A background in PR, marketing, social media or news will be great for this role.
Marketing and Fundraising Specialist or Assistant. Our challenge
Our Support and Information team offer a wide range of inclusive and accessible services to support those diagnosed with a brain tumour and their families.
One of our most critical services is our Support and Information Line, which is open between 9am-5pm, Monday—Friday. This service offers a place for people affected by a brain tumour diagnosis, to ask questions or raise concerns about a diagnosis, and how to support a loved one. We continue to see an increase in people accessing these services, and strive to work in smarter ways to manage this increase.
How can you help?
We’re looking for volunteers to help us make sure the Support Line runs more efficiently, by answering calls and asking a small number of specific questions to ensure the caller is transferred/triaged to the most appropriate support for them. This role also has the opportunity to develop into providing support to the community about specific areas.
- Answer incoming calls to the Support Line with empathy and understanding
- Ask specific questions to understand the caller’s support needs and transfer to the appropriate teams
- Accurately record information about the call onto our secure database
- Assist the support team in specific project areas where appropriate
- Respond to support emails from our community

Time commitment
To ensure we have volunteer cover for the full Support Line opening hours, we are looking for volunteers to commit between 1-4 hours a week. However, are open to talking about the regularity of these shifts.
The available times that we currently have are:
- Monday, 9am—10am
- Monday’s, 1pm-5pm
- Tuesday’s, 9am-10am
- Tuesday’s, 12.30pm-5pm
- Wednesday’s, 9am-10am
- Every other Thursday, 9am-1pm
- Friday’s, 1pm - 5pm
Due to the continuous training involved, we would ask that volunteers commit to a minimum of six months spent volunteering with us. This is a remote role where you can volunteer from home. You will have regular contact with our Support and Information team who, while facing tough challenges along the way, look out for each other and nurture an inspiring, positive team environment.
Practical considerations
You’ll receive a full online induction to The Brain Tumour Charity and specific training for the role, as well as training on the use of our database and phone system.
You’ll receive weekly supervision after each shift and ongoing support through online webinars, emails and telephone calls, from a team member within the Support team. You’ll have the opportunity to keep in touch and gain support from other volunteers in the same role.
Incoming support call numbers may vary, so some shifts may be quieter than others. We’ve created a number of different activities that you can get involved in between calls, if you would like to. This role has the opportunity for development to other areas of the support team— guidance and training will be provided for this.
We carry out reference checks for all individuals who will be volunteering with us on a regular basis. Volunteers will also be required to complete some internal data protection and disclosure documentation before commencing the role. Volunteers must be over 18.

Role Description
This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of an important departments in our organisation, working with the team on fundraising efforts while gaining valuable experience within Emerge Worldwide. We are looking for an individual with the passion and drive for fundraising, to help the organisation reach our fundraising goals and enable us to achieve the crucial work we do in raising awareness and prevention against sexual exploitation and sex trafficking.
We make an impactful difference in the lives of children, young people, women and professionals as well as organisations and businesses. There has been a 10% increase in sexual exploitation and sex trafficking against children (NSPCC 2022), and 99% of victims in the commercial sex industry are female (Unseen). We desire to provide free training so as many women and girls are trained, enabling increased protection against this horrific crime.
As a volunteer fundraiser, you’ll be instrumental in the organisation securing the essential funds that allow Emerge Worldwide to reach more people, including supporting and empowering victims and survivors. Your efforts will directly contribute to us offering services to the most vulnerable people.
What are we looking for?
We’re seeking volunteers with experience in fundraising, fundraising research to help drive our fundraising efforts and expand our support network, including sponsorship. Any experience in bid writing is desirable. We are also seeking volunteers who have event planning and project planning experience.
This role will include:

Legasee is a charity dedicated to preserving the experiences of military veterans through recorded interviews. About the Role
As a Content Writing Volunteer, you’ll play a crucial role in enhancing the Legasee Archive by creating engaging and informative descriptions of veterans. Drawing on their recorded interviews and transcripts, you’ll provide a snapshot of who they are, when they served, and the key themes of their interview. Your work will make the archive more searchable, user-friendly, and valuable as an educational resource.
What You’ll Do
- Watch veteran interviews and review transcripts to understand their story.
- Write concise and accurate descriptions that highlight the veteran’s service, experiences, and contributions (150-200 words).
- Ensure all content is written with respect and sensitivity to the veterans’ voices.

Event Lead volunteers work alongside our Active Events team staff members to plan and deliver the One Walk Cymru event. Event Lead volunteers use their unique skills and local knowledge to deliver a successful event, ensuring we raise as much awareness about living with type 1 diabetes, and money for life-changing research, as possible.
What will I be doing?
- Working with the Active Events Manager and other volunteers to plan and deliver the One Walk Cymru Event.
- Join a bi-weekly team meeting with the Active Events Manager to track the progress of the event and address any issues.
- Follow Breakthrough T1D event management processes, supporting the writing of event documents and ensuring that the event complies with local regulations, safety standards, and Breakthrough T1D’s guidelines.
- Liaising with suppliers to order event equipment, resources and book entertainment for the event. Coordinate the delivery of equipment and materials on the day.
- Managing a small budget provided by Breakthrough T1D, tracking all expenses related to event resources, entertainment, and supplies.
- Work with the Active Events Manager to implement a local marketing strategy using the provided resources, such as flyers, posters, and social media templates.
- Using your own local network to plan and promote the event, including recruiting participants, suppliers and volunteers.
- On the day lead a small team of volunteers to successfully deliver a One Walk event. Oversee event operations and be the main point of contact for all event-related activities.

What skills or experience do I need?
- Event planning experience and/or good organisational skills.
- Working with others or leading a small team.
- Financial management or confidence in handling a small budget.
- Good local knowledge to engage with local communities and use networks to promote event and recruit participants, suppliers, and volunteers.
- Excellent communication skills for liaising with suppliers, working alongside our staff team, and supporting a small group of volunteers.
- Ability to think on your feet and resolve issues as they arise, particularly on event day.
- Passion for the cause and commitment to delivering a successful event that supports Breakthrough T1D’s mission.
When do you need me?
One Walk Cymru is scheduled to take place Sunday 1st June at Parc Gwledig Cosmeston. Planning for your event will start in January.
We ask that you volunteer 3-4 hours a week for event planning. This may need to increase closer to the event. You must be available from 7am-4pm on the proposed event day as the Event Lead.
Where will I be based?
You’ll be planning an event local to where you live, and you can work from home/remotely.
You will be required to visit the One Walk event site as well as walk the route at least twice before the event day.
What training and support will I receive?
When you sign up to become a volunteer, we’ll send you a copy of our Volunteer Handbook and any relevant policies you’ll need to know about.
You will receive role specific training through Breakthrough T1D’s Learning Hub which will include, Type 1 Awareness Training, Health & Safety Training, safeguarding and cash handling.
Bi-weekly team meeting with the Active Events Manager to track the progress of the event and seek support.
You’ll have the name and contact details of a staff member who’ll support you in this role and answer any questions you have.
