About us
Who we are
We are a rapidly growing charity seeking to accelerate change for those affected by brain tumours, which kill more children and adults under 40 in the UK than any other cancer.
Our five-year strategy is ambitious and sets out our plans to double survival from brain tumours and halve the harm they cause to quality of life. We are looking for passionate, smart and pioneering people to join our talented and growing team.
Brain tumours in the UK - The Facts: Almost 11,500 people are diagnosed with a primary brain tumour every year, of those diagnosed 633 are children and teenagers. Sadly 5,200 of those diagnosed will lose their lives.
The Brain Tumour Charity is at the forefront of the fight to defeat brain tumours, making a difference every day to the lives of people with a brain tumour and their families. We fund pioneering research to increase survival and improve treatment options. We raise awareness of the symptoms and effects of brain tumours to get earlier diagnosis and to help families cope with everything that the diagnosis of a brain tumour brings. We provide support for everyone affected so that they can live as full a life as possible, with the best quality of life. We are committed to having the biggest possible impact for every person affected by a brain tumour.
Our values underpin our culture, the way we do things and what we believe in. We are pioneering, smart, passionate and collaborative.
We are members of the Association of Medical Research Charities, The Information Standard, The Helplines Partnership and the Fundraising Regulators Board.
Our culture and values
Our vision is for people diagnosed with a brain tumour to live longer and better lives.
We’ll achieve this by accelerating cures for all brain tumours, driving the best lifelong care and raising our global voices.
Our Goals
LIVE LONGER
Our goal is to double survival by 2030.
For people with fast-growing tumours, our aim is to halve the average years of life lost to a brain tumour from 27.3 years (2015) to 13.6 years by 2030. We’ll use one-year survival rates as an early indicator of our progress. For people with slow growing tumours, we aim to determine a benchmark and baseline it, then double survival by 2030.
Ultimately, as a research-led charity, we aim to find cures for all brain tumours so that no one’s life expectancy is dictated by their tumour.
LIVE BETTER
Our goal is to halve the harm that brain tumours have on quality of life by 2030.
For people with both fast and slow-growing tumours, their families and carers, we aim to select and baseline a quality of life measure with user groups and clinicians in 2023.
Equality, diversity and inclusion policy
The Brain Tumour Charity is committed to promoting diversity and inclusion in all aspects of our organisation. We particularly welcome applications from individuals belonging to minority ethnic groups, LGBTQ+ communities, people with disabilities, and other underrepresented communities.
We strive to create a workplace that celebrates diversity and provides equal opportunities for all candidates and we encourage all individuals to apply even if they don’t meet all the criteria.
