About Care4Calais and the Legal Access Department

Care4Calais is a volunteer-based charity providing essential aid and support for refugees in France and the UK. 

In northern France we operate year-round from Calais, working alongside communities in Calais and Dunkirk to provide warm clothing, bedding and service provision to displaced people who live in appalling and dangerous conditions. 

Across the UK we collect and distribute clothes, shoes, mobile phones and other essential items, as well as providing social support and interaction, including language lessons, sport and music workshops. We also help with vital access to medical and educational services. 

Our Legal Access Department is an access to justice project that exists to support people seeking asylum in the UK by facilitating access to legal representation and offering holistic support to people throughout the asylum process. The department, made up mostly of specially trained volunteers, works tirelessly to ensure that people feel informed, empowered, and far less isolated and alone. We conduct one-to-one, complex casework for people seeking asylum for a variety of matters, over the years we have supported thousands of people to secure legal representation. Our current casework channels include securing legal representation and support for people’s asylum claims, challenges to unsuitable accommodation and potential removal from the UK (for example under the previous Rwanda policy), and support of young people in their age dispute matters. Our teams work remotely across the UK. The Department seeks to adapt and amend our services based on the needs of the communities that we work with. 

About the role

The aim of the role is to support and inspire volunteer casework teams to undertake the individual one-to-one casework and support that lies at the heart of what the Legal Access Department does, furthering access to justice for people seeking asylum and refugees. The successful candidate will lead our Asylum Team of volunteer caseworkers to support individuals in their asylum claim, assisting with legal referrals and onward signposting where appropriate. They will work collaboratively with other Volunteer Team Leads and the Head of Department to respond with agility to a fast-moving policy environment.

Responsibilities

Volunteer Team Lead / Coordinator

• Lead existing team(s) of volunteers to undertake their specified casework roles as agreed with the Head of Department.

• Conduct quarterly 1:1s with volunteers to receive feedback, reaffirm commitments, and ensure volunteer wellbeing. Escalate any issues and/or concerns to the Head of Department where necessary.

• Motivate and engage volunteers, taking into account the remote nature of the roles, collaborating with other Volunteer Team Leads.

• Facilitate regular team meetings and/or virtual drop ins for volunteers to ensure continued engagement and space to raise issues or concerns.

• Support volunteer caseworkers undertaking their roles, providing advice on casework and stepping in to support clients where required.

• Oversee the appropriate collection and management of client information and data, ensuring that volunteers adhere to organisation policy at all times.

• Support volunteers to raise safeguarding / protection concerns through the appropriate channels. Escalate concerns where necessary. Support volunteer caseworkers through debriefs.

• Recruit, train and onboard new volunteers with the support of the Head of Department.

• Keep team procedure documentation up to date, implementing changes where required to keep pace with the ever-changing policy environment. Work with the Head of Department to proactively adapt the casework services provided to suit the needs of the communities we work with.

• Report on team progress to the Head of Department, CEO and senior leadership via pre-arranged channels and format.

• Work with the Head of Department to proactively identify systemic issues seen regionally and/or nationally and influence the direction of the Department. Contribute to evidence gathering and furthering any strategic litigation cases undertaken by the Department. 

• Develop and maintain a network of key contacts within relevant authorities, legal teams dealing with immigration and public law matters, and other NGOs focused on support of refugees and people seeking asylum.

• Attend and contribute meaningfully to team meetings.

• Attend relevant external meetings representing the organisation as needed, ensuring that knowledge and learning is shared across the department. 

Individual casework

• Manage own limited, complex caseload of adult asylum seekers requiring legal representation where required to support the volunteer casework team.

• Communicate effectively and sensitively with clients and refer to legal firms. 

• Identify clients’ individual wellbeing needs and make onward referrals in line with this. Provide emotional support to clients through the process of claiming asylum in the UK.

• Liaise with legal teams on behalf of clients where necessary.

• Keep relevant records up to date to allow for quick and effective retrieval.

Person specification

• In-depth understanding of the UK asylum system

• Dedication to social justice with a clear understanding of the challenges faced by vulnerable populations, or a willingness to learn about these

• Ability to work sensitively with a diverse range of people, demonstrating cultural competence, respect and compassion

• Able to build positive relationships with a range of stakeholders including those from displaced communities, legal teams, and other charities

• Clear leadership ability, with the capability to act with initiative and drive

• An understanding of the volunteer experience including potential challenges volunteers may face

• Self-motivated and used to managing multiple priorities to meet deadlines

• Collaborative team member with excellent verbal and written communication skills

• Strong digital literacy, including ability to work on Google Workspace and Office 365

• Resilience in the face of challenging and emotionally demanding situations, with a positive and solution-oriented mindset

Dementia Together Wirral is an established charity, currently in a period of rapid growth and strategic development and now have an exciting opportunity for a dynamic, forward thinking and experienced Operations Manager to join our team of paid staff and volunteers. Support Worker (Substance Misuse)

We are looking for someone mature, motivated and caring to provide tailored person-centred support to our residents in their recovery journey. If you have a heart to see people overcome substance misuse - to reset, recover, and restore their lives - please join our dynamic team.

You will be providing one-to-one and group support to men who are overcoming substance abuse issues, helping them to achieve their personal goals in all areas of life (behaviour, health, housing, employment, faith etc.). You will therefore have great inter-personal skills and the ability to implement firm but caring boundaries. In addition, you will be responsible for a variety of administrative tasks, including updating care plans and risk assessments, writing progress reports for funders, and processing leave and visit applications.

This is a full-time, permanent role for 40 hours per week, including occasional evenings and weekends (part-time work could be considered for the right candidate).

Role & Responsibilities

The Event Sales Manager is the main contact for all hires enquiries about our fantastic 7 studio spaces, 2 theatres and café Bar.

The Event Sales Manager is responsible for driving sales, managing client relationships, supervising the event planning process.

No one day is the same at Brixton House. The versatility of the building enable us to host a wide range of events such as Meetings, Screenings, Conferences, Music Gigs and Book Launches.
 
Sales

- Achieve monthly sales targets
- Secure returning hire bookings
- Create and implement sales strategies
- Look at upselling opportunities across the venue including food and beverage packages
- Develop contacts with relevant cultural, commercial and social markets to increase sales opportunities – especially locally 
- To answer all enquiries in a timely manner with accurate information 
- Proactively source new business with the ability to strategically convert to sales
- Raise quotes, and issue contracts 
- Liaise with the Finance department to raise invoices and credit notes
- Liaise with other internal departments as necessary to deliver an excellent quality of service both for the client and Brixton House
- Liaise and build relationships with the Marketing, Operations and Technical departments, encouraging collaborative work
- Develop and deliver any related marketing assets with the Marketing team (eg updating the website, sales driven photography etc)

 
Management and Delivery

- Conduct tours of Brixton House, taking details of client’s requirements and responding with bespoke details as required 
- Lead in the advancing of Events and Hires 
- Book the spaces using Brixton House booking system, YesPlan, attending planning meetings as required and finding solutions to any possible clashes in delivery 
- Keep the booking platform up-to-date and raise any clashes with relevant teams
- Create Events sheets in a timely manner and distribute it to relevant teams
- Assist in all aspects of the day to day running of the department and Events and Hires
- Accommodate early get-ins and/or late nights for events and acting as onsite Event Manager during out of office hours
- Manage and resolve client’s complaints with a high standard of customer service care

 
Reporting

- Track enquiries to identify trends and understand Brixton House’s potential in terms of conversion rates, income opportunity and weekly conversion rates
- Schedule internal debriefs after events with relevant departments
- Complete monthly hires income reconciliation
- Report to the Senior Leadership and Executive Leadership team as required

 
Who are we looking for?

- Minimum of 2 years of extensive experience managing corporate and private events at a large, multi-space venue
- Evidence of hitting set targets and ability to adapt depending on income variances 
- Successful track record of handling diverse event requirements, deliver successful outcomes and the ability to achieve set KPI’s
- understand the complexities of delivering events within a busy event and/or entertainment venue
- To have a good working knowledge of lighting, PA, rigging and staging systems
- A confident and professional communication style, complemented by excellent interpersonal skills 
- Strong teamwork skills while also being self-motivated and capable of working independently when required
- Proficient in IT tools such as MS Office, including Word, Excel, and other relevant software applications
- Exceptional attention to detail and strong numerical skills
- Diplomacy and tact dealing with a broad range of clients

Whilst this is not a hands-on nursing role, a background in healthcare would be ideal, along with strong organisational and IT skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with medical professionals, with a commitment to providing high-quality and compassionate care and support.

We are looking for a well-organised and caring professional with excellent administration skills to support our Healthcare Coordinator in overseeing the medication and healthcare needs of our male residents as they progress through their recovery from drug or alcohol abuse.

The role involves both administrative and practical tasks, as well as direct involvement in helping residents manage their own healthcare needs alongside supporting their wider recovery and spiritual growth.

You will maintain safe Medication Management within Yeldall Manor, ensuring that all medication including new supplies, is correctly administered, recorded accurately, and regularly audited, investigating and resolving any discrepancies. With the Healthcare Coordinator, you will assist the residents in accessing GP and specialist services, and ensuring that up to date electronic records are maintained of all healthcare matters for residents.

You will have excellent administrative and IT skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with medical professionals, along with a commitment to providing high-quality and compassionate care and support. Medical knowledge may be advantageous, but is not a necessity for this role.

About BDCA: BDCA is a dynamic community-led charity that has been serving the residents of the London Borough of Newham since 1998. Our motto is, “working together to change lives and transform our community” and over the past two decades we renovated four previously dead, disused spaces into lively local hubs. From these venues, our diverse team of locally-based staff and volunteers deliver targeted activities for people of every generation from children and their parents, young people and elders too. We also run programmes providing accessible sports, healthy food, poverty support and volunteering. Job Aim:To lead a fun, engaging and exciting programme of activities for young people across the economically disadvantaged but beautifully diverse E6 area within the London Borough of Newham. You will lead the delivery of BDCA’s Youth project, in line with our commissioning contract with Newham Council’s Youth Empowerment Service. Our project provides the following youth activities in East Ham over 49 weeks of the year for young people aged 9-19:

• Three outdoor Multi Use Games Area sports sessions per week in BDCA’s sports field.
• Three indoor youth hub sessions per week in BDCA’s sports pavilion, which includes workshops such as Junior Gym, screen acting, Muay Thai, healthy cookery sessions, calming crafts and sports.
• Weekly EKO Pathways after school youth club session specifically supporting children who have been excluded from mainstream education due to social, emotional, behavioural and mental health needs.
• Two outdoor parks MUGA session.
• Weekly Youth Theatre Club, led by a local acting workshop facilitator.
• Three-week summer holiday scheme for up to 120 children per day.
•  Annual ‘Stepping Up’ youth leadership programme offering training/ mentoring/ paid work experience / accredited Sports Leaders Awards for up to 30 young people each summer.
• Several offsite trips and residentials throughout the year - as often as match funding allows.

The Advice Service Manager is responsible for overseeing the delivery of the Advice Service and for managing and developing the team of Advice Workers, including the Senior Advice Worker who leads on delivery.

The service operates predominantly from our Ipswich office, but the Advice Service Manager is also responsible for organising outreach services for asylum seekers and refugees elsewhere in Suffolk. Along with the Senior Advice Worker, they provide expert guidance to the team, as well as to other professionals working with refugees and asylum seekers.

The Advice Service Manager is part of the Management Team and plays a role in overseeing the function of the organisation and its strategic development, especially in relation to SRS’s Advice Service. They are also responsible for developing the Advice Service according to client/organisational needs and strategy.
