About the role:

When a person or their family member sustains a spinal cord injury it is a life changing experience. They can feel very isolated and that no one understands what they’re going through.

Back Up’s mentoring service is there to help. We know that peer support can have a life changing impact and our Mentoring Team are the ones who can facilitate this through matching them with a suitable mentor who will be able to support them over a series of phone calls to reach their goals. The Mentoring Team Leader leads the team through providing excellent line management and driving the delivery of the team’s business plans to empower the team to ultimately support more people affected by spinal cord injury

In addition to leading the team, a Mentoring Team Lead will assist in creating mentoring relationships and support mentors and mentees as appropriate, assess mentee suitability and provide support in the process of identifying, recruiting and training new mentors.

A Mentoring Team Lead will be motivated to achieve the aims, targets and milestones that have been set in terms of making quality matches and will be comfortable and efficient with data management and GDPR compliance.

We are looking for a full-time Community Organiser to organise first-generation migrants in the UK towards migrant justice by supporting community members to organise events and participate in campaign activities. The  work will connect across 3 streams: voter registration; advocacy & campaigns; and political empowerment. 

Whether it’s engaging migrants at a voter registration stall, supporting migrant leaders to develop activities in their own communities, or sharing stories for the campaign for votes for all - the lived experience of first generation migrants is at the heart of all our activities.

We are looking for a proactive Community Organiser who is passionate about migrants’ rights and democracy to start working as soon as possible.

Who funds the role?

The role is funded by a grant from the Esmee Fairbairn Foundation.

Location

Migrant Democracy Project does not have a physical office, although the team does meet in person on regular co-working days. The Community Organiser will work flexibly from home on administrative tasks and be expected to work in-person when necessary to deliver voter registration, training, informative, advocacy and campaign activities, as well as representing MDP at relevant community events.

This role will suit someone based in Greater London.

Responsibilities

• Register migrant communities to vote.

• Engage migrant communities in key locations in the UK towards the Our Home Our Vote campaign.

• Plan and deliver outreach events with first-generation migrant communities where there is scope for building power in their local areas.

• Connect community leaders with their elected representatives on the Our Home Our Vote campaign.

• Train and empower migrant communities on UK politics and how to best achieve their campaign aims.

• Identify new local and national migrants’ rights groups that can support MDP’s campaigns and keep MDP’s contact database up to date.

• Organise the logistics behind Parliament tours where migrants without the right to vote visit their MPs to ask for their right to vote.

• Share physical and digital materials on democratic rights and participation at relevant community events.

• Assist MDP’s Digital Organiser in collecting digital material from community events, which can be shared on MDP’s platforms. 

• Keep track of community engagement and assist with report writing for our projects’ evaluation.

Qualifications

We are looking for a proactive and confident Community Organiser with the following essential skills:

• Demonstrable experience working with local communities at the grassroots level on campaigns.

• Strong commitment to social justice, anti-racism, feminism and LGBTQIA+ equality.

• Event administration skills, including booking venues, inviting speakers and communicating event programmes, as well as dealing with last-minute event changes.

• Good people skills and ability to manage the needs, priorities and differences of a diverse range of communities.

• Knowledge of and interest in the UK political system, in particular of voter eligibility.

• Problem-solver who is able to work both independently and collaboratively in a startup environment.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Job Summary 

The purpose of the Area Giving and Finance Adviser role is to provide comprehensive finance support to churches within the Willesden Area, aiding them in the development of their ministries, manage Common Fund giving and to support the Area Bishop’s staff team in the management of resources including monitoring clergy post numbers, curate funding, and other financial matters. As part of a small team of Area Giving and Finance Advisers, the role involves offering training, resources, and advice on parish financial management and administration, and advice on various giving methods, including online and contactless options. Additionally, the role entails promoting generous giving through training initiatives, facilitating the award of grants and loans to churches from Area funds, and fostering effective communication and relationship-building between the Area team, Finance team, and parish officers.

Financial support  

• Enable churches to develop their respective ministries, manage their finances effectively, and meet their statutory responsibilities.

• Provide finance and other appropriate training, support, resources and advice to the clergy, PCCs and parish officers.

Background

Chapter One is a dynamic, growing charity with a vision of a world in which all children have the literacy skills needed to thrive. Our mission is to close the reading gap by providing children with one-to-one support at the time they need it most. We work in eleven areas/regions of the UK and will support 3250 children in 2024-25.

Our unique Online Reading Volunteer programme pairs struggling five to seven-year old (KS1) readers with reading support volunteers who are working professionals. The volunteer ask is very focused: readers commit 30 minutes a week to read with a child using a bespoke digital platform for an entire academic year. The results are transformative, boosting children's reading confidence and ability.

From a school perspective, online reading volunteers provide direct, meaningful literacy support for up to 10 pupils per class. The programme is particularly suitable for communities where it might be challenging to find parents and other volunteers who can commit to physically visiting schools to boost reading.

Job Summary

Chapter One is seeking a Manchester Programme Manager who is an excellent communicator and is able both to motivate and support schools and teachers to implement our online reading volunteers programme, and also to ensure that the programme’s impact and benefit to children facing disadvantage communities is maximised throughout the academic year.

The post is ideal for someone looking for part-time, flexible, term-time only work from a home base, but who is also able to travel frequently around the Greater Manchester area to visit schools.The postholder will be joining a team of established Programme Managers (also part-time) who work in different parts of the UK and will need to have some flexibility to work additional hours during busy autumn months, and conversely to work fewer hours during quieter periods of the year. The weekly hours for this role (currently 12-14 p/week) are likely to increase in future.

Key Responsibilities:

• Effectively explain Chapter One’s online reading volunteer programme and its benefits to school leaders and teachers

• Install, setup and maintain Chapter One equipment in participating classrooms

• Fully understand the operation of the Chapter One platform and database and communicate this to others

• Organise and conduct initial teacher training and follow-up

• Ensure a smooth initial launch of Chapter One’s programme in every classroom

• Liaise with colleagues performing technical and volunteer support roles

The Maternal Mental Health Alliance’s (MMHA) Everyone’s Business campaign calls for all women throughout the UK who experience a perinatal mental health problem to receive the care and support they and their families need, wherever and whenever they need it. This role will play a key part in supporting MMHA’s successful campaign and helping drive change for women, babies and families affected by mental health problems during pregnancy and after birth.

Job purpose

• Support the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the MMHA campaigns.

The Foundation Partnerships team at the UK Committee for UNICEF (UNICEF UK) builds long term relationships with private, institutional, and statutory funders. We have achieved significant success in recent years and are ambitious to do more.

We are currently recruiting two Foundations Managers to join the team. The Foundations Managers will be key to enabling us to achieve even greater results for children.

As a Foundations Manager, you will research, develop, and manage relationships with our partners and prospects, with a particular focus on partnerships at the six and seven-figure level. You will have the opportunity to work within a supportive, enthusiastic and experienced team to cultivate strategic, valuable partnerships for UNICEF UK.

We are looking for excellent communication skills, both written and oral, plus the ability to develop effective relationships with donors to ensure outcomes are maximised for both UNICEF UK and our partners. You will have experience in fundraising, including developing and coordinating successful proposals. You will also have experience managing grants, including reporting (narrative and financial) and compliance with contracts. The Femicide Census the most compressive single source of UK information about women who have been killed and the men who have killed them.  Launched in 2015, the Femicide Census became a separate legal entity in 2019 and a registered charity in 2024. Since its launch, the Femicide Census has become established as a leading articulation of men’s fatal violence against women in the UK.

OVERVIEW

We currently have a small fundraising team that has been together since April 2023, consisting of a Partnerships Manager, a Trusts and Foundations Manager and an Events Co-ordinator. The new Interim Head of Fundraising will lead this team, including our Communications and Marketing Manager.

Our desire is not just to bring a person on board who will lead the team from behind the lines, but someone who will take full ownership of the fundraising targets and be the visible lead fundraiser of the charity.

We want someone who will effectively deliver year one of our new three-year fundraising and marketing strategy to achieve future planned growth. Key responsibilities will be:

Team Leadership

• Take ownership of the fundraising targets and ensure that they are met.
• Lead the fundraising team and be ultimately responsible for their job satisfaction, appraisals and personal development.
• Ensure continuous evaluation of all fundraising activity.
• Monitor progress of each stream of fundraising and make adjustments as needed to achieve targets.

Relationship Generation and Stewardship

• Establish and nurture strong relationships with existing and potential donors, including individuals and corporations.
• Develop and implement tailored cultivation and stewardship plans to enhance donor engagement and loyalty.
• Ensure that regular communication with donors is in place, providing updates on projects, expressing gratitude, and soliciting continued support.

Strategy

• Lead on the execution of the new three-year fundraising strategy aligned with the charity’s mission and goals.

Reporting, Monitoring & Budgeting

• Monitor and manage expenditure related to fundraising activities, ensuring cost-effectiveness and adherence to budgetary constraints.
• Lead on development and upkeep of pipeline processes, ensuring high quality and live information is available across the fundraising team and finance functions.

ABOUT YOU

Your Key Strengths:

• Be a highly experienced and proven fundraiser, with at least five years of UK based charity fundraising experience.
• Have exceptional interpersonal skills - comfortable speaking with senior business leaders, decision makers and High Net Worth individuals…. And comfortable making ‘the ask’!
• Maintain high levels of discretion and tact; able to maintain confidentiality.
• Be personable yet decisive and confident, capable of working with and inspiring colleagues and volunteers.
• Have exceptional organisational and critical thinking skills; able to keep abreast of all the different streams of income and prioritise projects.
• Be IT literate and comfortable with fundraising software.

TERMS OF APPOINTMENT

• This is an interim role, for 12 months from January 2025.
• The salary is £50,000 - £55,000 depending on experience.
• You will get 25 days annual leave per year plus UK National Holidays. Also, we give any normal working days between Christmas and New Year as additional holidays.
• Reasonable flexible working arrangement , but you must have the ability to work outside of core hours and travel across the UK when necessary.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• To identify suitable trust and foundation donors and establish relationships, with involvement from the GDD;
• Work with programme teams to develop new ideas for business development and submit to known and identified trusts & foundations;
• Manage the stewardship of the trusts and foundations portfolio, crafting winnable applications, and delivering reports as part of the engagement process;
• Work closely with the institutional development managers to identify opportunities for their portfolios and on institutional proposal development when necessary;
• Develop strategies for engaging new prospective donors through research and represent the organsation through networking;
• Gather and share information on new potential funding and/or themes and contribute to the intelligence and MEL functions with donor information and competitor mapping;
• Manage and develop existing relationships in collaboration with international programmes;
• Line management of a Development Assistant and coordination of their support to other team member.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• At least 5 years of experience working in a similar role;
• Significant and demonstrable experience of securing income from trusts and foundations;
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
• High quality verbal and written communication, problem-solving, critical thinking and a desire to collaborate with peers;
• Proven successful experience in identifying and securing unpublished funding opportunities;
• Ability to deliver high-level presentations to donors, clients and internal audiences.
