Sounds great, what will I be doing?

This role involves managing a caseload of service users who require early intervention or preventative support for their mental health, helping them to achieve positive outcomes and greater independence. You will work collaboratively with individuals to clearly explain the service model, pathways, aims and objectives, enabling them to actively participate in and co-produce their support plans. The role includes delivering group activities and programmes, developing peer support networks and community-based opportunities, and encouraging service users to engage with activities that support their goals and aspirations. You will empower individuals to effectively engage with a range of professionals and services, including community mental health teams, social workers, housing providers, healthcare professionals and Job Centre Plus. Working as part of a flexible and supportive team, you will contribute to ensuring service coverage and the achievement of contractual requirements. You will actively monitor the health, wellbeing, safety and security of the service and its users, responding promptly to any concerns in line with organisational procedures. Strong administration skills are essential, as you will be responsible for maintaining accurate and confidential records, completing referrals, assessments and reviews in a timely manner, and supporting the wider service through day-to-day operational tasks. You will also participate in regular supervision, appraisals and professional development activities, demonstrating a proactive and collaborative approach to delivering high-quality support.

What do I need to bring with me?

You'll need to be able to demonstrate the core skills this role requires as well as match our values and mission. Candidates will bring lived experience of mental health care pathways, such as emergency department attendance, acute admissions or engagement with community mental health services, alongside a strong understanding of the challenges faced by people with a range of mental health conditions. You will be able to communicate effectively and provide support with dignity, empathy and respect, building and maintaining trusting relationships with service users, carers, colleagues and professional partners. Strong listening and verbal communication skills are essential, enabling you to engage confidently with individuals who may be experiencing crisis, as well as with statutory and voluntary agencies both in person and over the telephone. You will have knowledge of recovery-focused approaches, mental health and wellbeing support services available within the local community, and the ability to assess needs, risks and aspirations while identifying appropriate support and signposting opportunities. The role requires excellent organisational, prioritisation and time management skills, with the ability to work dynamically and remain effective under pressure. Good IT skills, including a working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook and internet-based systems, are important, as are strong literacy and numeracy skills to produce accurate and professional written correspondence. A sound understanding of safeguarding responsibilities is essential, together with the ability to respond appropriately to concerns. You will be a collaborative team player who can work independently when required, support the induction of new peer staff and volunteers, and build positive partnerships with a wide range of stakeholders to achieve the best outcomes for service users.

The post holder will be responsible for leading a team that keeps the safety of victims of domestic abuse at the core of all processes. You will have overall responsibility for all clients accessing the service. The post holder will have good knowledge of the criminal justice system and an understanding of Marac protocols.

The manager will also raise awareness of male domestic abuse.

About You

You don't need to have done exactly this job before — but you do need to have done something like it. You're someone who can set a strategy and still get your hands dirty. You've probably managed a freelancer or consultant before. You've built relationships with funders or partners when resources were tight, not abundant. And most importantly, you actually want to build something — not just keep an existing programme ticking over.

Experience with trusts and foundations fundraising, youth or family support work, or a background moving from a founder-led organisation toward distributed leadership would all be a bonus, though none are essential.

This is a hands-on communications role supporting the delivery of impactful, engaging and strategically aligned content across digital, print, events, media and internal channels.

Key Responsibilities

• Create and implement effective communication strategies to promote organisational activities and campaigns.
• Write, edit, and deliver compelling content for various channels including digital platforms, press releases, and internal communications.
• Coordinate with stakeholders to ensure messaging is accurate, consistent, and inclusive.
• Monitor media coverage and analyse communication effectiveness to inform future strategies.
• Manage and maintain content on websites and social media, ensuring content is accessible and engaging for diverse audiences.
• Support organisational initiatives by fostering positive relationships with external partners and community groups.
• Ensure compliance with brand guidelines and organisational policies related to communication and accessibility.

Person Specification
We are looking for a confident and creative communications professional with:

• Proven experience in developing and delivering communication plans across multiple platforms.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with an eye for clarity and inclusiveness.
• Experience in managing digital content, social media, and media relations.
• Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and external stakeholders.
• Analytical skills to monitor and evaluate communication outcomes.
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.

This is an exciting opportunity to shape the future of fundraising by identifying and qualifying high-value prospects, providing strategic insight, and ensuring our fundraising teams have the intelligence they need to build lasting relationships with donors, corporate partners, and trusts and foundations.

Working as part of the Fundraising, Brand and Communications Directorate, you'll develop a strategic roadmap for prospect research, oversee due diligence to help protect the charity's reputation, and work closely with colleagues across fundraising and data to maximise the potential of our Microsoft 365 CRM. Your expertise will help drive sustainable income growth while ensuring our data, processes, and practices meet the highest standards of quality, compliance, and data protection.

About You 

You'll be an experienced and strategic prospect research professional with a strong understanding of how insight, data, and relationship-building can support successful fundraising. You'll combine excellent research skills with a proactive approach, using your expertise to identify opportunities, provide valuable intelligence, and help shape fundraising decisions.

To be successful in this role, you'll bring:

·Significant experience of undertaking prospect research and due diligence within a charity, fundraising, or commercial environment, with the ability to identify and assess new opportunities.

·Strong research and analytical skills, with experience using a range of research tools, databases, and CRM systems to produce accurate, insightful reports and recommendations.

·The ability to develop and implement effective strategies, systems, and processes that improve ways of working and support organisational goals.

·Experience building strong relationships and collaborating with colleagues and stakeholders at all levels, including briefing and influencing senior leaders.

·Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly, produce high-quality written reports, and tailor messages for different audiences.

·A thorough understanding of data protection principles, fundraising compliance, and ethical approaches to prospect research and donor engagement.

·Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities, work independently, and deliver high-quality work to deadlines.

About the Role 

·Lead the development and delivery of St John Ambulance's prospect research strategy, creating a roadmap that supports fundraising priorities across philanthropy, corporate partnerships, trusts, and foundations.

·Manage the prospect research function, identifying and qualifying high-value funding opportunities while providing strategic insight to help maximise fundraising income.

·Conduct high-quality prospect research, network mapping, and due diligence, ensuring all recommendations align with the charity's ethical fundraising policy and protect its reputation.

·Build and manage fundraising pipelines by identifying new prospects, tracking opportunities, and working closely with fundraising colleagues to move prospects successfully through the cultivation journey.

·Develop and embed effective processes for prospect referral, research, and data management, ensuring accurate CRM records, GDPR compliance, and the adoption of fundraising best practice.
