Director of Finance & Operations

This well regarded international development charity whose mission is to prevent violent conflict and build safer lives are looking for a Director of Finance and Operations. The Director of Finance & Operations will support the CEO to develop the financial and operational strategy. The role will ensure financial sustainability, enhance resource management efficiency, optimise business processes and controls as well as mitigate risk whilst adopting a continuous improvement mindset.

Detailed responsibilities of the role will include;

• Provide strategic leadership on financial strategy and management
• Advise and support the CEO and Board on all financial matters, including risk management
• Oversee the organisation's finance systems, policies, and processes
• Oversee global operational activities, such as insurance, procurement, ICT systems and relevant policies and procedures, ensuring alignment with organisational goals and maintaining global impact
• Oversee global security efforts, encompassing physical and cyber aspects, to safeguard organisational assets and data
• Provide inspirational leadership to foster the development of high-performing teams guided by strategic objectives and a shared sense of purpose
• Manage a team of approximately 7 staff

In order to be successful in the role, we are looking for successful candidates to demonstrate formal accounting qualification (ACA/ACCA/CIMA), extensive experience of financial management gained within a multi country international charity setting (including the complexities of managing funds in areas of conflict) as well as the gravitas to operate with credibility to advise the Board.

Flexible hybrid working arrangements are offered. This role can be based out of London or remotely if you live in a country that the organization has a presence.

Role summary

You’ll be raising funds primarily for School Plates, the flagship UK programme, to help school menus to become healthier and more planet-friendly by increasing the quality, quantity, and uptake of plant-based food. 

The programme is growing rapidly. Now working with 70 major school caterers feeding over 1 million children daily, we’ve roughly doubled our reach in each of the last two years. With a new educational programme to teach children about their food choices launching this year, and our School Plates Awards and Global Plant-based School Food Network both expanding considerably, there is a need to significantly grow our income.

The role is primarily a combination of major donor and corporate fundraising to complement our existing trusts and foundations fundraising. You’ll be an experienced relationship builder, a driven and enthusiastic self-starter, and an excellent project manager. Responsibilities

• Lead on UK fundraising, focusing on major donors and corporates.

• Develop a creative 3-year fundraising strategy, and draft annual and quarterly objectives.

• Research, identify, and secure new major donors, and develop individual cultivation strategies for prospective donors, moving them along a prospect pipeline.

• Support the stewardship of existing major donor relationships, keeping them informed and involved in our work to secure their continued support. 

• Draft theories of change, cases for support, and other relevant written materials.

• Build on our vision for a successful ‘donor circle’.

• Devise creative ideas for corporate partnerships, and develop relationships with a range of organisations sympathetic to our aims, developing cultivation plans for each.

• Contribute to drafting applications to trusts and foundations, if required.

• Contribute to the fulfilment of our reporting requirements.

Person Specification

• 5+ years of experience of fundraising at an NGO.

• A track record of identifying and securing significant or multi-year, five-figure funds from donors and/or corporates.

• Evidence of writing successful proposals and reports.

• Excellent project management and organisational skills with the ability to lead and work collaboratively.

• Significant experience in researching and developing strong stakeholder relationships.

• Strategic and impact-driven.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including effective listening, objection handling, and negotiation skills.

• Excellent interpersonal skills, including confident demeanour and experience in engaging with a diverse range of high-net-worth individuals.

Global Human Relations Specialist 

Responsibilities

— The responsibilities of Global Human Relations Specialist will include, but are not limited to:

• Determine and facilitate optimal hiring status for new and continuing staff (direct employment, EoR employment, independent consulting) and initiate and manage contracts as appropriate.
• When there are open positions, working with hiring managers to manage the full cycle of recruitment of positions including job scoping, candidate sourcing, interviewing, reference checking, background checking, developing offers and closing the hire.
• Guide and manage onboarding, orientation and exit processes.
• Evaluate and facilitate staff mobility and travel requirements (visas, permits, and registrations) as needed.
• Update and maintain job description library and organisational charts.
• Maintain appropriate benchmarks, periodically review and recommend enhancements to compensation and benefits plans across international geographies.
• Coordinate payroll and HR administration with International Accountant and others.
• Review, update, develop and enhance processes, policies, and procedures for staff across various jurisdictions to ensure compliance around applicable labour and employment regulations, internal equity in compensation and benefits, and to reflect best practices and our institutional culture and values. Identify any significant gaps to our offering in relation to staff priorities.
• Ensure the integrity of staff records and timeliness of any required actions (e.g. remuneration adjustments, contract renewals, enrolments etc).
• Consult with, coach, and support managers and staff on standard personnel transactions, employee relations issues, interpretation and fair application of policies and applicable laws.
• Recommend appropriate resources and training for professional development needs.
• Organise staff events for team and capacity building and cross-cultural and cross-disciplinary learning including annual retreat.
• Maintain a pulse on staff morale and identify strategies to enhance staff cohesion, engagement and overall health and well-being.
• Specify and optimize HRIS to efficiently manage human resource related processes, record keeping and analytics. Manage HRIS interfaces with other relevant systems such as accounting.
• Develop and manage relationships with staffing related service providers including payroll and HRIS providers, accountants and employment law experts.

General and Other

• Coordinate user training and resourcing on HRIS (including payroll) platform, as needed.
• Keep abreast of developments in foundation staffing (role descriptions and structures).
• Keep abreast of best practices in international HR.
• Occasional travel as required for execution of duties.
• Other duties as are consistent with specialist’s role and experience as the foundation continues to evolve, or from time to time as prompted by institutional priorities.

Qualifications

— The successful Global Human Relations Specialist candidate will likely reflect much of the following profile:

 Essential

• A combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, Psychology, or a field related to the work.
• Five years’ progressively responsible HR experience.
• International HR experience. GPHR or PHRi or equivalent, a plus.
• Practical understanding of global employment law and issues.
• Strong understanding of accounting as it relates to staffing.
• Excellent, hands-on knowledge of web-based systems including HRIS, payroll (we currently use Deel), office suite platforms (proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite preferred).
• Comfortable in complex and highly matrixed environments. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively with peers across disciplines and functions in shared efforts with proven ability to influence without direct formal authority.

For a leading global NGO, we're recruiting a Senior Finance Manager for a 12-month contract. Reporting to the Director of Finance and IT, the Senior Finance Manager will support the Finance team through organisational change, will lead the oversee the month-end processes, quarterly forecasting, annual budget, cash-flow management and group consolidation. The Senior Finance Manager will be a key role in providing support and analysis to help decision-making.

What you'll be doing:

• Support budget holder's decision-making via insightful financial management, annual budget, and forecasting
• Lead on financial accounting and monthly management accounting processes
• Lead on month-end processes, including process improvements to income reconciliations
• Lead on quarterly reforecasting processes, ensuring templates and consolidation forecasts are submitted
• Lead on the preparation of VAT and Tax returns to HMRC and regulators
• Produce accurate cash flow forecasts

Terms and Conditions

• Location: This role can be based at the MAF UK Offices in Folkstone, Kent or optionally could be in the Oxford, Cambridge arc as we seek to launch a new hub in the Milton Keynes area, maximising our engagement with a thriving local aerospace and charity sector region.  Up to two days a week in our Folkstone Office might be initially required.We welcome hybrid working in line with our flexible working policy, the needs of the business, the requirements of the role and your location. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with an aptitude for stakeholder management and organisational relationships, as you will support the CEO, Board and wider team, as well as liaising with colleagues within Age UK, HelpAge International and the Disasters Emergency Committee.

The Administrator is a pivotal role within the organisation, responsible for overseeing and coordinating administrative functions to ensure smooth and efficient operations at TIIHQ.

Key responsibilities include:

• Lead the administrative support to ensure the smooth running of prescribed Institute services and activities as well as front-line response.

About the Role
