Role responsibilities
Human Resources Support
- Recruitment: Support the recruitment process by helping to create job descriptions, place adverts, attract quality candidates and conduct assessments.

Senior Quality Assurance Officer

Who are Women’s Aid?
Women’s Aid is the national charity working to end domestic abuse against women and children. We are a federation of over 170 organisations which provide just under 300 local lifesaving services to women and children across England. For almost 50 years we have campaigned on behalf of our members and survivors to shape policy and practice, and to raise awareness of domestic abuse.
Purpose of the Senior Quality Assurance Officer role:
As Senior Quality Assurance Officer, the successful candidate will play a pivotal role in conducting and innovating Women’s Aid’s National Quality Standards (NQS) offer for member services. Sitting within Women’s Aid’s busy Membership Team, the postholder will successfully lead in supporting member services to continually improve and evidence good quality specialist responses to survivors’ needs in local service provision and will support the internal team alongside external consultant assessors to deliver a strong quality framework that reflects the diversity, and complex work of our members. A key time for Women’s Aid to connect our policy work, our membership and our strategic campaigning work around the standards that fully represents the unique value of the membership body.
Key duties and responsibilities of the Senior Quality Assurance Officer:
- To be responsible for the coordination of delivery of Women’s Aid National Quality Standards assessments including ensuring assessment processes are completed in a timely manner.
- Scheduling Quality Assessment Panels including recruitment of panelists. This will include responsibility for ensuring terms of reference are fulfilled and ensuring potential conflicts of interest are identified and addressed.
- Presenting assessments to the Quality Assessment Panel in the unavoidable absence of the assessor and notetaking including recording outcomes, actions and decisions where required.
- To support the Chair of the Quality Assessment Panel in conducting panel meetings and highlight areas of risk or conflict to the Chair in advance of meetings.
- Be first point of contact for dealing with appeals and complaints, managing low to middle-risk complaints and escalating to the Membership Resolution Manager as required for high risk complaints.
- Responsibility for allocation of assessments to internal and consultant assessors ensuring target dates are met and operational considerations, such as location and conflict of interests, are considered.
- To conduct quality standards assessments of domestic abuse services, including reviewing evidence, making site visits, writing assessment reports and presenting cases to the Quality Assessment Panel.
- Review of assessment reports for quality, adherence to standards and consistency prior to presentation at Quality Assessment Panel, including giving feedback to the assessor and ensuring this is actioned.
- Develop a clear strategy and delivery plans to support the sustainability and growth of the Women’s Aid National Quality standards including supporting increase of income-generation activities.
- Line management of Quality Assurance Officer including day-to-day support, supervision and appraisal activities.
- To work across WAFE to promote the Women’s Aid National Quality Standards to commissioners and government as the ‘gold standard’ quality framework for services working with women and child survivors of domestic violence.
What we are looking for in our Senior Quality Assurance Officer:
- Knowledge of quality frameworks appropriate to domestic violence services.
- Knowledge and proven experience of the principles of quality assurance and good practice in delivering accreditation processes.
- A very good understanding of the experiences and needs of women and children affected by domestic and sexual violence and violence against women and girls and the intersectionality that impacts this
- Thorough understanding of the role of specialist services supporting women and children at risk of violence against women and girls
- Experience of writing and producing briefings and reports
- Experience of planning, delivering and managing projects within a set timeframe and with clear outputs.
- Experience of providing and/or managing direct services to survivors of violence against women and girls.
- Excellent verbal, written and computer literacy skills.
- Ability to analyse complex information and identify the implications for women and children affected by domestic violence and the services supporting them.

About the role:
In this role you will be a key part of FLEX’s policy team and responsible for leading on the implementation of FLEX’s Communications Strategy, ensuring that FLEX’s communications help progress our strategic aims. You will develop comms outputs and work with internal and external contacts to produce content and conduct strategic comms work. Key responsibilities:
Communications
- Lead on the implementation of FLEX Comms Strategy, tracking, measuring, and reporting on the effectiveness of the Charity’s communications channels.
- Liaise with team members and external colleagues, as relevant, to conduct strategic communications planning and work.

- Represent FLEX and act as first point of contact for press enquiries, provide background information to journalists on relevant areas, and signpost to relevant staff as per FLEX’s press protocol.
- Produce visual content using relevant software (e.g. Canva, Piktochart, etc.).
- Develop contact management systems and/or databases (e.g. dissemination lists, media contact lists, etc.).
- Undertake media monitoring of salient issues for the team and use this monitoring to identify opportunities and new contacts.

- Design, plan, and deliver comms activities against targets;

- Develop and implement a monitoring and evaluation plan for comms objectives and produce progress and learning reports for internal and external purposes.

The Policy Communications Officer will assist in increasing the visibility of Alzheimer’s Research UK (ARUK) to external audiences, with a particular focus on influencing key political stakeholders, such as the next UK government, to support policy change.
The Policy Communications team sits within the Communications Department but works closely and collaboratively with the Policy and Public Affairs Department to maximise the success and influence of their work by gaining cut-through with key audiences and inspiring positive, urgent action. This is a varied role, covering areas across diagnosis, treatment and prevention. The postholder will also assist with efforts to shape public health policy around dementia, including dementia risk reduction and brain health messaging.
The postholder will develop engaging and compelling content for a range of communications channels, with the aim of developing the charity’s voice as an expert commentator on dementia policy and establishing the charity as a thought leader in the UK.
Main duties and responsibilities of the role:
· Working with the Policy Communications Manager to lead on the creation and delivery of communications and content to support ARUK's policy and public affairs activity, working through multiple channels including national media, newsletters, website content and social media.
· Develop effective relationships with ARUK’s Communications Department, Policy & Public Affairs Department, and with external stakeholders and partners, in order to identify and deliver on communications needs.
· Help find, develop and pitch news stories, press releases, thought leadership pieces and other content to national press on ARUK’s policy and public affairs activity, bringing the charity’s expertise and key messages to the forefront.
· Support the running of ARUK’s press office by co-ordinating responses to breaking news stories relating to relevant dementia policy developments, including drafting reactive comments, briefing spokespeople and accompanying spokespeople to interviews when appropriate.
· Monitor relevant media coverage; keep up to date with policy, social, scientific and charitable sector issues which could benefit, or have relevance to, ARUK.
· Assist with the organisation and delivery of events, including ARUK’s research conference and events in parliament.
· Develop effective working relationships with relevant members of the media, government and NHS communications contacts; respond promptly to queries, including occasional out-of-hours queries.
· Work with the Public Affairs team to build on existing relationships with ARUK’s campaigners and parliamentary advocates, developing engaging content to strengthen our communications with these groups.
· Work with the Internal Communications team to create and disseminate materials to support staff across the organisation in engaging their stakeholders and the wider public with ARUK's policy and public affairs work, including toolkits and Q&As.
· Liaise with the Social Media team to develop compelling content in support of the charity’s policy and public affairs work.
· Ensure activities comply with ARUK’s branding and style guide.
· Undertake any other relevant duties and projects delegated by the Policy Communications Manager in line with the responsibilities of the post.
What we are looking for:
· Educated to degree level in related subject or equivalent level of experience.
· Experience of working with national media on health/science or policy issues.
· Experience of working with external stakeholders and partners.
· Experience of delivering communications programmes through a variety of media (e.g. press, social media, email, events).
· Confidence working with computers; knowledge of Microsoft office packages and databases, good keyboard skills.
· Understanding of the UK political landscape, its potential impact on health policy and the role communication plays in policy change.
· Excellent journalistic skills and news sense.
· Ability to understand and translate complex policy into consumable communications for journalists and the public.
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a high standard of accuracy and attention to detail.
· Excellent organisational skills; the ability to manage many tasks with internal and external stakeholders to multiple deadlines.
· Ability to communicate appropriately and effectively with a broad range of people, including journalists, policymakers, representatives from partner organisations, and people affected by dementia.
· A confident and friendly manner; would feel at ease representing the charity to a range of audiences.

· Willingness and ability to travel independently in the UK and to work outside of regular office hours when needed.

As Grants & Development Officer you will work closely with the Management Team and be responsible for the successful grants and fundraising activity for core and project-based work, as well as developing new income generation opportunities.
Grants, Fundraising and Other Income Generation:

The British Cardiovascular Society (BCS) is a membership organisation with charitable status.
