About us
Who we are
The World Federation of Societies of Anaesthesiologists (WFSA) works to unite and empower anaesthesiologists around the world to improve patient care, aiming for universal access to safe anaesthesia. We do this through programmes that address the major barriers to access across Education & Training, Safety & Quality, Advocacy, Innovation & Research.
5 billion people (out of just over 7 billion people) do not have access to safe and affordable surgery and anaesthesia. Almost 17 million people die each year from conditions that would be amenable to surgical care - that's 4 times the number of people who die from HIV, Malaria and Tuberculosis combined.
We work to address this inequity and to ensure that anaesthesia and surgery are part of the essential strengthening of health systems that will deliver Universal Health Coverage by 2030.
