Our mission is to help children and young people have a fair chance to be who they want to be. We do this by providing a safe home, increasing life skills and self-confidence, and improving emotional wellbeing and mental health.

We are looking for a Supported Housing Support Worker to join our team at the Guildford Foyer, which is one of our 24-hour supported housing services offering high quality support and accommodation to 33 young people, ages 16-25 who have multiple and complex needs, including many who are unaccompanied asylum-seeking young people. Our specialist supported accommodation is a safe and secure environment where young people are supported to acquire the necessary skills in preparation for living independently and can safely explore their increased freedom and choice and develop the responsibilities associated with adulthood.

As a Supported Housing Support Worker you will hold a caseload of residents, working with them on a one-to-one basis with also facilitating group work sessions. You will identify their needs by listening to them, with employing psychologically informed approaches to enable residents to make better choices and take responsibility for their actions. 

You will be helping them to improve their practical living skills such as cleaning, budgeting, managing behaviour, seeking, and securing employment and making wise decisions. You will help to contribute to a great working environment, with a calm, yet assertive manner, being able to handle potentially difficult situations. 

In addition, you will work closely with external services such as, Social Services, Police, Probation, education providers and local organisations. Our services already have excellent working relationships with them, and your role will build on these. 

Based on site, this role is on a seven-day rolling rota, including evenings, weekends and bank holidays.

Tower Hamlets Domestic Abuse Service is a refuge that provides short-term accommodation for 15 women and their children with a range of support needs, who are at risk of or fleeing domestic abuse.

You will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating families' move-on pathway from the refuge into independent living. The post holder will be responsible for sourcing accommodation in the private rented sector - liaising with landlords and sourcing new move on routes for families. You will directly support customers to move into their new accommodation and ensure support staff are fully equipped to inform customers about the move on process. The post-holder will also a central contact point for local authority housing departments.

What you'll do:

Develop links with private sector landlords and estate agents in order to source private rented stock and promote Look Ahead as a partner organisation
Work in partnership with local authorities' move on co-ordinators, creating innovative schemes to support long stayers in accommodation
Attend and support customers to complete all relevant documentation for housing placement meetings
Develop and maintain an information resource to support the team in the resettlement of customers and their children. This will include (but not limited to) Local Housing Allowance Rates, Partner Landlord and Estate Agency details and Rent Deposit Schemes
Act as the main point of contact for information and resources on the private rented sector
Support a caseload of families to ensure they move on within their licence agreement timeline

About The Team

The Advice team at our Plymouth Hub delivers legal aid funded and non-legal aid funded work throughout Devon and Cornwall. Also based at the Hub are members of our Lived Experience team, who deliver a range of activities with the aim of ensuring the views and experiences of individuals with lived experience of bad housing or homelessness informs all of Shelter’s work and a Community Organiser who works with the local community to fight the housing emergency. People are at the heart of the services we offer and, in order to keep growing and evolving to suit the communities we work with and bring about real change, we need to understand what really matters for people.

Our Legal Service provides specialist legal knowledge across Shelter through four teams covering Community Legal advice, Strategic Litigation, the National Legal Team and Legal Support Team. You will be part of our Community Legal Team, who are based across our 11 hub locations and work alongside hub colleagues every day to fight housing injustice and deliver systemic change relating to housing practice in our local communities.

About the role

Using your legal expertise, you will play a key role in tackling housing in justice and unfair housing practices. You will be working under our Legal Aid contract, delivering legal advice and representing tenants at court where needed. Delivering systemic change through legal challenge to prevent homeless will also be a considerable part of the role.

About You

Qualified as a Solicitor, you will have a strong knowledge of housing law and be used to managing your own caseload. You have strong skills in advocacy, litigation, and file reviews. If you meet the Supervisor status for legal aid purposes that would be preferable but isn’t essential, as is experience of working under a legal aid contract.

The role of an IDVA is to address the safety of victims and survivors at high risk of harm. IDVAs work with their customers from the point of crisis by safety planning and risk assessing using the DASH to ascertain the level of risk to the victim.

Outward Housing Department provides housing management aimed at sustaining vulnerable people in their tenancies and assisting people to move on from short term services. We work with a number of registered housing providers and in conjunction with our Group partner Newlon Housing Trust to provide housing management to their supported housing homes.

As a Tenancy Management Officer you will be expected to ensure that a comprehensive, sensitive and efficient housing management service is delivered to our tenants. You will have the ability to liaise with a range of internal and external partners, experience of providing a supported housing service to vulnerable tenants and a commitment to sustaining tenancies wherever possible.

You will also be able to effectively manage tenancy breaches including Anti-Social Behaviour, assess the suitability of new referrals, carry out property inspections and manage the voids process, monitor rent accounts and work with Income Management Team to ensure that rent arrears are kept to a minimum.  The successful candidates will also have excellent organisational, administrative and IT skills, and a commitment to excellent customer service. 

This role is available as a full time post of 38 hours per week.

To offer practical and emotional support to children and young people aged 0-16 years, who are living with the effects of Domestic Abuse and Violence, and overcoming the traumatic impact on their lives. The support is offered during their time in the refuge, through the transition from refuge to their new home and ongoing support in the community. Support is also offered to children who live in the wider community who access the service independently. To liaise and work together with all other agencies involved with the families, in order to meet their ongoing needs appropriately and effectively. What you'll do:

* To ensure that the needs of children and young people in the refuge are assessed as part of admission and the duration of their stay
* To plan and implement a programme of therapeutic and recreational activities for children and young people living both at the refuge and in the community, as well as play-work and activity trips * To provide individual, age appropriate key working sessions for children of all ages. With a focus on safeguarding, including risk and safety planning, emotional & physical health & wellbeing, education and social & family networks
* To encourage and support mothers to build loving and consistent relationships with their children * To work in partnership with all agencies in relation to safeguarding children following both local and national approaches around Early Help Assessments, CIN, TAF and Child Protection Protocols
* To act as the Lead Practitioner in early help assessments and using early help principles to develop support plans for sub-threshold families, ensuring effective multi-agency involvement.
* To write and contribute to the completion of Reports for Courts and Children's Social Care Conferences and meetings regarding the families, when required.

Job Title: Quantity Surveyor

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Quantity Surveyor who understands the multiple disciplines required to deliver this fast-paced area of the business, to join our small, but supportive, Housing & Neighbourhoods Team. You will bring your knowledge and experience by providing financial acumen and support to various stake holders, staff and residents by supporting in keeping ISHA financial services and maintenance records along with close scrutiny of requisition orders being placed.

You will work closely with the Head of Assets and Repairs in a generalist capacity, to support with continuous improvement across all service areas, while helping to support and achieve our organisational objectives.

Some of the key responsibilities of the role include:

• Good understanding of the National housing federation rates to enable processing of invoices.
• Responsible primarily for orders being produced within the Housing and Neighbourhoods department, covering responsive repairs, neighbourhood services and support when required across planned works and empty homes by way of controlling and monitoring costs.
• Ensuing orders are coded/allocated to the correct budget lines, appropriate evidence for cost approval is saved on ISHA systems.
• Take ownership of requisition approval process of orders being requested for supply of goods, by validating requisition and purchase orders prior to ordering goods and services.
• Ensuring that robust financial monitoring, reporting, and forecasting systems are in place.
• Contributing to the budget plan and compiling budget reports monthly.
• To support in the managing of all contracts associated with the delivery of these services delivering excellent customer service and value for money.

The post can be undertaken on a part or full-time basis, and is a vital roles for liaison and support for residents, ensuring they are welcomed and engaged as part of the Almshouse community.

The Trust's origins can be traced back to Tudor times; it ranks as one of the Midland’s larger grant-making charities in terms of its property, financial assets and annual income. It does not actively raise funds from the public, rather from its assets that have been accumulated over hundreds of years. Throughout a long history it has improved the lives of generations of people, particularly those in the greatest need, whilst redefining and extending its benefits to reflect changing times.

Flexibility on hours is paramount, but there are also options for living on-site if this would work for the right candidate.

Almshouse Manager: circa £34,000

36.5 hours per week – over an average of 3 days per week, Monday to Saturday, plus up to one hour on alternate Sunday mornings, over a two-week period on a rota basis. Each day’s work will commence at 09:00 hours and finish at 21:00* hours with a break at lunch time and a break in the evening.  This also provides flexibility for a daily check-in / on-call hour on 3 non-working days.

• Oversee appointments of potential Almshouse residents, carrying out interviews and ensuring effective support to new residents as they settle into their home

• Provide line management to the warden, ensuring all mandatory and other training is completed and in place

• Encourage and promote inclusive opportunities for residents’ engagement and feedback

• Work with the Property Manager to manage the Almshouse budgets

• Offer advice and support to residents in response to problems and queries as the need arises

• Authorise minor or emergency repairs to the almshouses as necessary and report these to the Property Manager.

• Maintain close contact with others who support the residents such as family members, carers, nurses and social workers

• Provide lunch in the residents’ lounge once a month and other social activities as planned
