Direct Marketing Manager-Acquisition at the Disasters Emergency Committee delivers key direct marketing activities during appeals for major disasters. You will work with the Direct Marketing Manager-Retention to deliver a programme of supporter communications to feedback to donors on the impact of their donations and to retain their future support.
The purpose of the role is to:
- Contribute to and develop DEC direct marketing strategies,
- Implement the direct marketing strategies during each appeal with income maximisation and supporter acquisition as the key focus,
- Manage the capturing and analysis of results to ensure channel optimisation between appeals,
- Lead the benchmarking process of DEC Member Agency fundraising performance.
The role will deliver responsibilities for strategy and planning, fundraising, networking and building relationships.
You must have strong direct marketing experience with a focus on high volume donor acquisition. Demonstrable knowledge of offline marketing techniques in press, outdoor, direct mail and telephone. A proven track record of developing effective digital and direct marketing strategies, which resulted in significant growth of income. Experience of managing complex budgets and proven ability to manage a complex operational plan within very short timeframes and within budget.
Ideally you will have experience of working in the international humanitarian aid sector, have used Salesforce and Salesforce Marketing Cloud and Google analytics.
You must have excellent communication skills both written and spoken, with the ability to write compelling and emotive fundraising copy. Significant technical marketing expertise across a range of direct marketing channels. Excellent numeracy, budget development, planning and project management skills.
An ability to work under extreme pressure during appeals and to very tight deadlines with excellent attention to detail is a key driver for success in this role.

Our new strategy will mean changes to what we fund and how we work with communities and organisations in England. In November 2024 we published our new England funding Portfolio, ensuring the £3 billion we will distribute to England’s communities by 2030 supports the successful delivery of It Start’s With Community.
As we start to deliver on our new funding portfolio we established a new Portfolio Development Team to sit at the heart of the Fund’s England directorate. This team sets the direction for our funding, ensuring our whole funding portfolio is delivering on our four community-led missions; our commitment to take an equity based approach to tackling inequality; and our ambition to be more than a funder.
England Portfolio Development Team
The permanent England Portfolio Development Team is taking forward the new England portfolio, ensuring we are delivering impact through our current funding portfolio whilst also looking to the future and developing new funding initiatives and ways of working to meet our 2030 vision.
This small team of eight works across the whole England directorate, the wider Fund, and externally with people, communities and civil society organisations who share our vision.
The team is responsible for:
- Setting the direction for our funding, including setting out the change we want to support in England’s communities through our funding and gathering insights to assess whether we are succeeding or not

The Role
The Head of Digital Infrastructure will be a pivotal member of the leadership team, managing the charity’s operational digital infrastructure, enabling a seamless interface between staff, technology and systems, and leading on the development and delivery of the Charity’s IT strategy. Reporting to the Director of Finance and Operations, the post-holder will be responsible for the operation of Wonderseekers’ IT infrastructure, including its digital platforms, box office system and digital planetarium, as well as cyber security measures, identifying opportunities for improvement and innovation throughout.
The role requires a hands-on approach, balancing day to day system administration with the management of IT contracts and digital tools such as databases. You will also take ownership of the digital exhibits, part of the wider, hands-on family friendly visitor attraction at Winchester Science Centre and be the Charity expert on the operation of the digital planetarium system.
This role is part of a growing team and you will be responsible for the recruitment, training and development of an IT apprentice to support the delivery of the service.

Key Objectives
· To support the charity delivering on its charitable objectives by providing effective IT support, including box office/ticketing solutions and the Charity’s websites
· To be the technical lead in the delivery of projects.
· Diagnose and resolve IT support issues.
· Ensure that the Charity has effective IT security systems and policies to protect systems from internal failure and external attack.
· To assist with the hardware, software and systems administration and maintenance of Office 365, Azure etc.

Key Responsibilities
Managing Operational Infrastructure:
· Manage the Wonderseekers IT infrastructure and support contract to ensure cost effective and high quality service delivery.
· Support the successful launch and on-going operation of key digital infrastructure used across the charity, including databases, SharePoint sites, cloud based applications, planetarium and exhibits.
· Work collaboratively with the Commercial Operations team, external web developer and software provider to ensure delivery of an exceptional customer experience from landing on the Charity website to completion of a ticket purchase, minimising downtime wherever possible.
· Troubleshoot IT platform-related issues and liaise with developers when needed.
· Identify opportunities for operational improvement and innovation, and present these to senior stakeholders.
· Oversee and maintain IT infrastructure, ensuring high availability, security, and optimal performance, working with the Estates team and Technicians where required.
· Manage cloud services, IT providers and hardware procurement to support organisational needs.
· Implement and enforce IT policies and best practices.
· Work collaboratively with the People and Culture team to manage digital processes associated with new starters / leavers.
· Ad hoc tasks to support the smooth running of Wonderseekers and delivery of the charity’s strategy.
Digital Platform Management:
· Maintain and enhance Wonderseekers internal staff communications platform to improve user experience and efficiency.
· Identify and implement system upgrades, customisations, and integrations to meet staff needs.
· Provide training and support to staff on platform usage and IT best practices.
Project Management:
· Lead operational projects aimed at improving internal operations efficiency and/or technology integration.
· Manage timelines, budgets, and resources for IT and digital infrastructure projects.
· Be point of contact for new ideas and operations initiatives across the Charity to ensure these are shared in a cohesive and structured manner.
· Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure project alignment with organisational goals.
· Monitor and report on key performance metrics related to IT and operations.
· Identify and implement solutions to operational challenges to enhance productivity.
Cybersecurity and Risk Management:
· Drive cybersecurity improvements by implementing best practices and proactive security measures.

- At least 7-10 years of experience in a senior sales and marketing role, ideally with experience managing both non-profit and commercial sales efforts.

Surgical intervention could address over 30% of the global burden of disease, and yet the poorest 33% of people receive just 3.5% of all surgery. Post-operative mortality rates 1,000 times higher than in some high-income countries can be found in parts of the world where surgery and anaesthesia have been neglected, and in some countries as many as 90% of anaesthetic departments do not have the equipment to provide a safe anaesthetic for a child.
With 142 Member Societies made up of anaesthesiologists in 151 countries, WFSA is uniquely placed to influence these inequalities and help ensure universal access to safe surgery and safe anaesthesia.

You will be required to attend the charity’s head office located in Norfolk a minimum of 6 times per year and this will be at your own expense for travel and accommodation.

Our flagship service is our One-to-one Reading Programme; volunteers will read with students for two thirty-minute sessions weekly. We currently support over 150 schools with a volunteer network delivering over 40,000 reading sessions every year. Volunteers are the heart of our mission, helping us deliver our One-to-One Reading Programme
Key Responsibilities
- Volunteer Engagement Strategy: Develop and execute strategies to increase volunteer engagement, motivation, and overall satisfaction.
- Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and support a team of volunteer coordinators and support executives to manage volunteer relationships and retention efforts.
- Communication & Recognition: Design and implement regular communications and recognition programs to show appreciation and foster a sense of community among volunteers.
- Feedback & Support: Develop systems for collecting volunteer feedback to identify opportunities for improvement and ensure volunteer needs are met.
- Training & Development: Create and facilitate training sessions and development opportunities to empower volunteers and enhance their experience.
- Data Management: Track and analyse engagement and retention metrics, using insights to continuously improve strategies and initiatives.
- Event Coordination: Plan and execute volunteer appreciation events, gatherings, and recognition ceremonies.
- Conflict Resolution: Address any volunteer issues or concerns with empathy and professionalism, working toward positive resolutions.
Experience:
- 2+ years of experience in volunteer management, engagement, or community outreach role.
- Experience working in a role where the focus is delivering one-to-many engagement strategies
- Experience working in an internal communications role is required as a key component of this role is communicating with our volunteers.
- Previous experience leading a team is preferred.
