Job Title: Head of Fundraising 

Reports to:   Deputy CEO

Location:  Contracted to Breaking Barrier’ office in London, Birmingham or Manchester, with some expectation of travel

Terms:      5 days per week (37.5 hours) but open to part-time (minimum 30 hours) and flexible working arrangements

Purpose of the Role 

The Head of Fundraising is a strategic leadership role within the Income and Engagement Directorate, with overall responsibility for the strategy, delivery and performance of Breaking Barriers’ high-value income portfolio. This includes corporate partnerships, trusts and foundations, statutory funding, and major gifts.

Breaking Barriers has grown into a national charity supporting over 1,300 refugees each year and raising c.£3m annually. Income from corporate partners and philanthropic funders has been central to this growth, with corporate partnerships integral to both income and the creation of meaningful employment outcomes for our refugee clients. As the organisation enters its next strategic phase, the priority is to develop national partnerships in line with a redesigned service model and build long-term resilience across high-value income streams.

Reporting to the Deputy CEO, the Head of Fundraising will translate organisational priorities into a clear income strategy that delivers resilience and long-term relationship-led partnerships.  They will lead and support a team of senior fundraisers, each with lead responsibility for a defined income stream, while maintaining personal involvement in a small number of priority, high-value relationships.

As a member of Breaking Barriers’ Joint Leadership Team, the post-holder will contribute to organisational leadership, culture and decision-making, and will help shape how we work with responsible businesses, funders and partners to advance refugee employment in the UK.

Key Responsibilities

1. Income generation and external partnerships

• Hold overall accountability for income delivery across corporate partnerships, trusts and foundations, statutory funding, and major gifts / high-net-worth individuals.

• Provide strategic oversight and direction to senior managers leading each income stream, ensuring coherence, prioritisation and strong performance across the portfolio.

• Maintain personal oversight of a small number of priority, high-value relationships, acting as senior sponsor and external representative where appropriate.

• Ensure a strong, diversified pipeline of prospective partners and donors aligned with organisational priorities.

• Champion excellent stewardship and supporter experience across all high-value relationships.

• Work closely with colleagues across the Directorate and the Joint Leadership Team to maximise cross-fundraising, partnership and engagement opportunities.

• Ensure that the voice, experience and dignity of refugees are meaningfully and ethically reflected in fundraising activity.

• Ensure accurate and consistent use of Salesforce for pipeline management, forecasting, reporting and analysis.

• Work closely with the Deputy CEO and Finance team on income forecasting, budgeting and financial planning.

• Ensure compliance with all relevant legal and regulatory requirements, including GDPR and the Fundraising Code of Practice.

2. Strategy and growth

• Working closely with the Deputy CEO, lead the development and delivery of an integrated Fundraising Strategy that supports organisational priorities, financial sustainability and long-term national partnerships.

• Translate strategy into clear priorities, plans and performance expectations across the fundraising portfolio.

• Drive income growth while strengthening long-term resilience across high-value income streams.

• Develop and deliver national and multi-year partnerships, particularly with corporate partners and major statutory funders, ensuring these relationships are strategically aligned, high-impact and mutually beneficial.

• Ensure fundraising propositions are compelling, evidence-led and clearly connected to Breaking Barriers’ impact, working closely with the Services Directorate to reflect operational reality and client need.

• Strengthen pipeline management, forecasting and scenario planning to support financial resilience and informed decision-making.

• Identify opportunities to deepen funder engagement beyond income, including learning partnerships, influence and profile-raising where appropriate.

• Monitor external trends and risks affecting high-value fundraising, adapting plans proactively in partnership with organisational leadership

3. Leadership and team management

• Provide inclusive, ambitious and supportive leadership to the Fundraising team, fostering a culture of high performance, collaboration and learning.

• Line manage 3 Senior Managers across Corporate Partnerships and Philanthropy, each with lead responsibility for a defined income stream.

• Set clear expectations, objectives and KPIs for senior managers, supporting them to balance strategic leadership with hands-on fundraising delivery.

• Ensure effective prioritisation, realistic workloads and joined-up ways of working across a complex fundraising portfolio.

• Lead on workforce planning, skills development and succession planning within the Fundraising function, in partnership with the Deputy CEO.

• Champion strong collaboration between fundraising and other directorates, particularly Services, Communications and Finance.

• Model Breaking Barriers’ values at all times, contributing to a welcoming, mission-led and entrepreneurial organisational culture.

• Actively contribute as a member of the Joint Leadership Team, supporting organisational leadership and decision-making beyond fundraising.

Essential

• Significant experience leading high-value fundraising across multiple income streams, with a strong track record of income growth.

• Demonstrable success securing and stewarding 6- and 7-figure partnerships or donations from corporate partners, trusts/foundations, statutory funders and/or major donors.

• Proven ability to operate at both strategic and delivery levels, balancing leadership with selective frontline fundraising.

• Experience managing senior fundraisers or managers with responsibility for discrete income streams.

• Strong strategic, financial and analytical skills, including budgeting, forecasting, performance management and risk assessment.

• Excellent relationship-building, influencing and negotiation skills, with credibility at senior levels internally and externally.

• Ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and compellingly to a range of audiences, including trustees.

 Alexandra Rose run practical place-based food system transformation projects based around a voucher for fresh fruit & veg. We currently have 9 projects across the UK, and we’re aiming to scale in the coming years. Each project operates the same model, but each project adapts to work with different communities, different languages, different community support infrastructure, different retail options, and more.

Voucher distribution is linked to a range of wider wrap around services to ensure that our projects support people in getting out of poverty in real and long-lasting ways. Our vouchers area accepted exclusively by local, independent healthy food businesses, ensuring that we are also supporting a fairer, healthier local food economy.

Our model directly tackles the barriers of affordability and accessibility to the most nutrient dense and most expensive element of a healthy diet. We change the health outcomes of young children and adults living with food related health conditions. We actively change the food environment that is available to a range of people who have been disadvantaged for decades.

You have experience of managing a CRM database and working in a finance and database team, ensuring you can hit the ground running. We are an ambitious charity with ambitious goals that needs a Financial Controller to support the charity in achieving these goals. This is a broad role that will include a wide range of responsibilities. The Financial Controller is responsible for managing the daily and weekly tasks of the Finance team, as well as periodic tasks that are less frequent.  These tasks include (but are not restricted to) all aspects of bank and cash, raising of invoices, generating BACS payments, all Finance input into payroll, VAT returns, Gift Aid claims and response to ad hoc queries from our front-line staff.  The Financial Controller managers one Finance Assistant and reports into the Head of Finance. The Head of Finance leads on budget setting, forecasting and monthly / quarterly / annual reporting, and the Financial Controller will support where needed.  The Financial Controller will also be the lead contact with external auditors following year end.

About the role:

This is a hands-on, people-facing role for someone who takes pride in creating spaces that really work. As our Facilities Manager, you’ll be the driving force behind safe, welcoming and well-run workplaces that allow our teams to focus on what matters most - supporting people out of homelessness. From the moment someone walks through the door of one of our offices, your work will be felt. If you’re someone who spots what needs fixing, improves things before they become problems, and enjoys being right at the heart of an organisation, this role is for you.

Based full-time at our Head Office in King’s Cross, you’ll be visible, present and involved - working on site five days a week and travelling across London to our other offices and services. No two days will look the same. One day you might be problem-solving with a manager, walking a site, or supporting a health and safety issue; the next you could be leading a refurbishment, improving how a space is used, or making sure contractors are delivering what they promised. You’ll manage a small facilities team, oversee reception services, and work closely with colleagues across Single Homeless Project (SHP) to make sure our buildings actively support the work happening inside them.

This is a role for someone who likes ownership and momentum. You’ll need to be practical, organised and confident making decisions - but also warm, approachable and collaborative. If you’re excited by the idea of being a visible leader, enjoy balancing detail with big-picture thinking, and want your work to directly enable frontline services across London, we’d love you to bring your energy, ideas and grit to SHP.

About you:

• You have hands-on facilities management experience and know how to keep buildings safe, functional and fit for purpose.
• You’re confident handling a wide range of property and technical issues, and know when to fix, escalate or bring in the right expertise.
• You hold a relevant Health & Safety qualification and are comfortable leading on compliance in busy office environments.
• You’ve procured and managed facilities contracts before and are confident holding suppliers and contractors to account.
• You’re a strong, people-focused communicator with experience managing staff and delivering a reliable, high-quality service to colleagues.

About this role:

Reporting to the Head of Policy and Communications, the Policy and Communications Coordinator will support SIB’s track record of sector, government and media engagement, notably the high standard of publication set through its media partnerships with Tortoise and the Financial Times, its contributions to the policy landscape in the social sector, and its in-house data analysis and insight generation. This new post will contribute to SIB’s ongoing communications and public policy work and its reach and influence, building on a growing base of expertise across SIB’s three strategic priority areas: Green Transition, Infrastructure and Services.

Key responsibilities

1. Support the Head of Policy and Communications to deliver the Policy and Communications strategy for SIB.

2. Making use of media and parliamentary tracking software keep abreast of SIB’s strategic policy areas, sharing accessible updates and digests of relevant legislation and central and local government programming and media coverage.

3. Attend / watch online relevant parliamentary committees, All Party Parliamentary Groups (APPGs) and Commons and Lords sessions, capturing relevant outcomes and identifying MPs and Lords that SIB should seek to work with / influence.

4. Support the Head of Policy and Communications to identify a key parliamentary contacts list. Create tailored communications for these key contacts which share relevant statistics and case studies from SIB’s portfolio, alongside policy influencing lines. This will include drafting questions and briefings where relevant, and ensuring that regular contact is maintained. 

5. Support the drafting of consultation responses and press releases using SIB’s core messaging, reporting, research and data.

6. Support SIB’s annual party conference attendance with coordination and administration in advance and in person.

7. Support the Head of Policy and Communications with attendance at influencing meetings and webinars with, for example, the Association of Decentralised Energy, Community Energy England, Locality, Better Society Capital, the Access Foundation and others.

8. Draft internal and external copy for newsletters and the SIB intranet and website.

9. Monitor the press email address and support correspondence with journalists on reactive and proactive stories.

10. Attend and provide oversight to the Social Investment Forum, as part of SIB’s secretariat and hosting.

11. Write, edit and produce engaging and relevant content at pace for web, social media and e-newsletters, as well as earned and paid channels.

12. Management of external suppliers of communications and policy activities, including agencies, designers, consultants and think tanks.

13. Work with the Marketing Manager, Marketing and Events Coordinator, Business Development Manager and wider team to deliver successful external events with customers, stakeholders and partners including attendance at Party Conferences.

14. Work in line with the organisation's values, principles and processes to achieve operational excellence.

Core competencies

• Previous experience of working in a public policy, PR, marketing, external affairs or communications role
• Excellent writing skills
• Good research skills, with an ability to absorb large amounts of information at pace, including in unfamiliar policy areas and produce cogent syntheses
• Strong collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively teams across functions in an integrated way
• Good established networks through experience in a similar role, and a commitment to expanding those networks to support SIB’s strategic aims
• Experience of building effective media partnerships
• Good working knowledge of data-driven storytelling in a variety of outlets from organisation websites to mainstream media and confidence in interpreting data and understanding the key points to be drawn from it to gain traction in media and campaigning environments
• Experience of developing and delivering effective communications campaigns, including through a range of digital channels
• Strong planning skills and an ability to multi-task, work well under pressure and meet deadlines
• Strong understanding of UK political context, especially as it concerns the social economy, and parliamentary process
• An understanding of how to promote research, policy papers, data analysis and other activities of a think tank and consultancy

The Role – What you’ll be doing 

As our Product Assistant (Mass Participation events), you’ll help deliver an exceptional supporter experience across our Charity owned mass participation events —playing a hands-on role in supporter care as well as supporting with logistics and day-to-day tasks required for event delivery. 

You will: 

• Be a first point of contact for product enquiries: managing shared inboxes, answering calls and providing friendly, timely supporter care. 

• Provide excellent stewardship to all supporters. Including acknowledging donations and maintaining the Charity database in line with Charity policies and procedures.

• Support the Products team with planning and delivering mass participation events across the portfolio of both in-person and virtual events.

• Help deliver our flagship event, The Banham Marsden March, including pre-event logistics and on the day support.

• Work with fulfilment agencies to ensure fundraising materials reach supporters in a timely manner.

• Keep events information updated across our website and in-hospital displays.

What we’re looking for 

You’re an enthusiastic, proactive team player with:

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
