The Role

As GamCare continues to expand, we are looking to recruit new advisers for our Helpline. Helpline advisers play a key role at the heart of GamCare and are the first port of call for those seeking help, advice, and support for gambling related harm. 

This is a great time to join us and be an integral part of an award winning (Helpline of the Year) team, providing vital support to those affected by their own, or someone else’s gambling. As our team of Advisers grows, we will be able to help more people who reach out to us.

Support is offered via our Freephone Helpline, Live Chat (Netline) and digital platforms, including WhatsApp. The Helpline is operational 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

This role will be worked across a 2-week rota. In each 2-week period you will work 7 nights. Shifts begin at 22:30 and finish at 07:30 the following morning. Full training and supervision are provided, and a full CPD-programme is offered.

Key Responsibilities

• Recognising issues of risk and ensuring they are dealt with effectively, in line with our safeguarding policies.
• Collaborating and engaging professionally with other remote-working colleagues as part of a Helpline team.
• Operating various IT systems including our call handling system, CRM and internal communication platforms.
• Capturing client data in order to improve understanding and to help us tailor our service to those in need of support.
• Moderating our online Forum and Chatrooms on a rota basis.
• Providing advice, support, and guidance to callers, who are affected by problems with gambling.

About you

You will have a professional qualification in Health, Social Care, Psychology, Youth or Community Care, e.g. NVQ Level 3 or above or a Diploma in Mental Health Nursing, Counselling, Addiction Studies, Advice and Guidance. Alternatively, you will have demonstratable experience of working with vulnerable people experiencing addiction harm and/or other complex needs.

We also welcome applications from those who have lived experience of gambling related harm and experience of working in a professional supportive environment, with an understanding of relevant safeguarding legislation.

You will be able to engage with callers getting in touch with GamCare effectively, sensitively and with empathy, and be able to deliver non-judgemental, confidential support. You will be willing to maintain a sufficient level of understanding around problem gambling, and you will have a genuine interest in working within the field of Gambling Addiction, treatment, early intervention, and prevention.

You will also be competent in the use of various IT systems including our call handling system, CRM and internal communication platforms.

You will also be subjected to a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

The Role

As a freelance Community Moderator you will be responsible for the day to day delivery of exceptional supporter experiences as the voice of our charity partners working predominately in Facebook challenge groups.

You will work on behalf of some of the best known and best loved charity brands in the UK and beyond, helping to raise vital funds for their incredible causes.

You will use your excellent written communication skills to respond to supporter enquiries, post content, and generate engaged and safe online communities, whilst encouraging event participants and helping them achieve their fundraising goals.

You will do this accurately and in a timely manner with exceptional attention to detail and be expected to understand and adopt our clients social media tone of voice and brand guidelines elevating every supporter interaction.

Key Responsibilities

• Represent Charity Partners
  • Deliver an authentic in-house supporter experience and bring our charity partners’ social media tone of voice, brand and principles to life in every interaction you deliver.
  • Follow safeguarding protocols to protect the wellbeing of supporters taking part in events, escalating as and when required.
• Supporter Experience
  • Moderate challenge campaign Facebook Groups, posting engaging content that inspires and motivates the community, both ad-hoc and with scheduled posts at the correct times following approved content plans.
  • Respond to high levels of supporter enquiries via multiple channels within our agreed SLAs.
  • Engage with supporters posts, answering questions with accurate and timely responses and creating a supportive and safe community environment.
  • Ensure every supporter has an excellent experience providing first time resolution where possible and taking ownership of outcomes when not.
• Fundraising
  • Provide fundraising support to event participants advising on best practice to maximise their fundraising opportunities.

Skills and Knowledge

• Strong social media moderation experience and/or customer service/charity fundraising experience is a must.
• Must have excellent written communication skills.
• Must demonstrate good technical skills and experience with social media.
• Must be organised and able to work independently.
• Must be able to professionally represent Social Mind and our charity partners in all communications.

Independent Advocate Requirements:

Hounslow Young People is a Supported Accommodation Service for young people and young parents aged 16-25. The Service encompasses a mix of units across six sites supporting 57 vulnerable young people and 19 teen parents.

We are recruiting a Waking Night Support Worker to join our dynamic service and team. In the role of Waking Night Support Worker individuals will ensure continued support is provided to young people at the standards of day staff with particular focus on safety of vulnerable young people.

About the Role:

The Waking Night Support Worker will work in line with person-centred risk assessments, support plans, and liaise with Support Workers to provide comprehensive handover and partnership working. They will be observant of changes in behaviour and presentations ensuring appropriate actions are taken to document and report changes in support needs of young people.

Waking Night Support Worker will be able to carry out all necessary health and safety actions including light cleaning tasks and environment management. Furthermore they will actively seek out ways to work with the team and stakeholders to improve the experience of young people in the service.

The role requires individuals to work on a rota pattern of 21:30 - 07:30, including some weekend working.

The Help for Heroes Community Development team are looking to recruit a team of Community Builders to assist in their reshaped participation and connection strategy. Using Asset Based Community Development, we seek to support the charity’s objective to enhance reach and positive impact for members of the Armed Forces Community facing challenges within their local communities.

About You

You will have experience leading and facilitating the mobilisation of local communities, asset mapping, bringing together people for engagement that matters to them. You will have knowledge and experience of Asset Based Community Development work, outreach methods and you will have good organisational skills, energy and the ability to animate local communities. 

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver outreach to drive local connection, engagement and participation opportunities for the AFC 

• Develop and embed an ABCD informed way of work 

• Asset map 

• Organise and facilitate community meetings to share ideas, encourage collective decision making and build a sense of belonging 

• Encourage and pilot community lead action in response to local AFC needs/interests through peer led/co-designed initiatives

PLEASE NOTE: The successful candidates will need to be based within an hour’s commute of their allocated locality and there is a requirement to travel within a 75-mile radius of this location (travel expenses covered). Flexibility in working hours is necessary to ensure a total of 70 hours is covered over a 2-week period so please take this into consideration before applying.

You will work as part of the Community Development team; this newly formed team will approach working in defined localities using an asset based community development approach. Together the Community Development Managers and the Community Builders will strengthen local communities using resources and networks that are readily available. About the Role

Since the World Congress of Soil Science, which we hosted in Glasgow in 2022, the British Society of Soil Science (BSSS) is becoming increasingly recognised as the go-to organisation for evidence relating to soil.

This new post will deliver the Society’s activities around our policy work; producing draft guidance notes and consultation responses for our committees to comment on, working with policymakers and stakeholders to raise awareness of our members’ collective evidence-base and best practice knowledge.

You will work closely with the Executive Director to understand the Society’s priorities and support the delivery of our strategy by developing relevant guidance and policy projects, whilst horizon scanning to seek opportunities for the Society to have influence externally.

Your activities will make a demonstrable difference in raising awareness of the Society’s work amongst external stakeholders, leading to opportunities for collaboration and income generation.

About You

Educated to degree level or equivalent you will be an established Policy and Public Affairs professional, with good attention to detail, agile in approach with excellent communication and influencing skills. 

Passionate about the natural environment you will place the Society at the centre of debate, advocating best practice around soil science and land use management across government departments and cross sector actors. 

We are looking for someone with a proven track record of coordinating and delivering policy responses, working with internal and external stakeholders in the development of policy and projects, and raising awareness of an organisation’s profile with politicians, policymakers and opinion formers.

You must have the ability to assimilate complex policy topics quickly, a solid understanding of political and policy processes, and be an excellent communicator.

The ideal person will also have sound research and project management skills, along with experience working for a membership body, an established network and relevant knowledge of environment policy led issues.

About this role

The Safeguarding Manager is responsible for all aspects of safeguarding at Better Cotton, including ensuring that organisation’s safeguarding policies are fit for purpose, appropriately understood by all staff and being implemented in an effective manner.

The Safeguarding Manager is a member of the global partnerships team and is tasked with supporting Better Cotton’s network of partners to ensure that their safeguarding policy, and other feedback mechanisms are fit for purpose and driving improvements in working conditions in the Better Cotton partner network.

Responsibilities

Safeguarding

• Ensure that Better Cotton’s Safeguarding Policy & Processes are fit for purpose and appropriately understood by all staff – including delivering safeguarding training to all staff when they join and enhanced training for different roles within the organisation as required.
• Ensure that Better Cotton’s central policies and processes are appropriately amended to align with national legislation and requirements where necessary.
• Ensure national/regional safeguarding focal points are in place in countries where Better Cotton has an office, and that they have the skills, knowledge and support required to conduct their duties.
• Matrix management of the Safeguarding and Compliance Senior Coordinator (Pakistan) and other similar roles as may be created in other countries.
• Directly oversee all safeguarding investigations, ensuring that they are effectively managed, investigated and resolved and survivors/victims are supported.
• Conduct analysis on reported incidents and ensure that it is being used to identify trends and implement proactive mitigation measures where possible.
• Proactively seek to identify ways to make safeguarding mechanisms and survivor support services accessible to different actors in the BCSS, and in particular producers; including through implementing pilots with programme partners and identifying opportunities for wider roll out.
• Conducting risk assessments to ensure we are striving to understand and mitigate risks.

Complaints & Whistleblowing

• Leadership of the cross-functional complaints management team and matrix management of country/regional level complaints focal points.
• Management of the Better Cotton Complaints & Whistleblowing frameworks.
• Ensuring that all relevant policies and procedures are appropriate to organisational needs, meet international standards and are aligned with local legislation where necessary.
• Ensure that admissible complaints are appropriately managed, investigated and resolved by nominated cross-functional focal points.
• Provide direct support to country/regional focal points to carry out investigations into complaints from partner staff relating to working conditions and human rights as required.
• Ensuring that learnings from complaints received, and investigations conducted, are contributing to continuous improvement in programme delivery.

Partner Performance & Support

• Provide expert input into partner due diligence – reviewing partner policies on safeguarding and recommending corrective actions where weaknesses are identified.
• Work in close collaboration with country/regional focal points (where available) to provide partners with support with implementing corrective actions relating to safeguarding, stakeholder feedback mechanisms and labour rights.
• As part of the Partnerships Team, contribute to building and delivering a cohesive approach to effective partnerships that will drive excellence and impact at the field level.

Other duties and responsibilities

• Maintain an active dialogue with members of the Better Cotton Executive Group (EG) and nominated focal points on the Better Cotton council – ensuring that they are kept appropriately updated.
• Quarterly reporting to EG on Safeguarding, Complaints & Whistleblowing.
• Annual reporting to Better Cotton Council on Safeguarding, Complaints & Whistleblowing.
• Ensuring that serious complaints, safeguarding and whistleblowing incidents are reported to the Better Cotton EG, Better Cotton Council and External Bodies as appropriate (and in the case of External Bodies, legally required).
• Ensure that risks associated with safeguarding and complaints are appropriately represented in the organisational risk register.
• Promote and upheld Better Cotton’s approach to partnership and programme management, including its ethos and values.
• As part of the Global Programmes Team participate in working groups and lead on additional tasks as reasonably requested by the Director of Farm Programmes & Partnerships.

About the Role

Community Connectors work as part of an integrated, blended mental health offer to support people with emotional, social and practical needs to access a range of local, non-medical and non-clinical services, to improve confidence, social inclusion and independence.

This role will involve working as part of a multi-disciplinary team with statutory, third sector and NHS colleagues to support clients who are suffering from moderate to severe mental health difficulties. You will need to have experience working with those suffering with mental health illness as well as being able to demonstrate in depth knowledge of the services, support networks and local resources that may assist in improved outcomes for those dealing with complex and enduring mental health issues. The ability to be adaptable, work independently and the resilience to work in some challenging environments are key attributes for this role.

Service Delivery

• Assess suitability for community connection support as part of a blended team approach and support individuals to access the service by utilising in depth knowledge of local voluntary and community services and networks in your respective area
• To work with individuals to coproduce a plan to address their mental health and wellbeing goals. Am enable people to achieve these goals through facilitating access and connecting with appropriate resources
• Enable people to access community resources which may include accompanying them.
• Offer support, guidance and help where possible to people to gain confidence, overcome initial fears and seek solutions to any barriers inhibiting attendance.
• Take a holistic approach, based on the individuals’ priorities and wider determinants of health that impact on their health and wellbeing, such as debt, poor housing, being unemployed, loneliness and caring responsibilities.
• To work as part of an integrated team to ensure the best outcomes for each person accessing the service.
• Identify and build good working relationships with the community groups, relevant services and activities for partnership work and signposting as well as keep updated information about them.
• Competently work as part of a blended team, under direction from Mind BLMK and ELFT, working with independence and in an agile way to support people with complex mental health challenges.

Can you bring your fundraising skills to help us to do more?

Purpose of Role

To support the Head of Fundraising and Head of Trusts to develop and deliver effective income generation and partner relationship management. Collaborating also with the wider WasteAid team to develop quality funding proposals and fundraising assets. To research, explore and initiate new fundraising approaches with potential new funders.

Income Generation

• Support the senior fundraising team to research and develop potential opportunities for maximising income generation
• Support the senior team to identify and secure new supporters/partners and ensure effective engagement with established supporters. This includes:

- Diverse Outreach

- Proposal Development

- Participation in pitch sessions / donor meetings

• Rolling stewardship and relationship management for a number of potential and current donors. Including coordinating staff fundraising /other donor activity and admin to support the partnership

Raising WasteAid’s Profile

National LGBT+ Independent Victim Advocate

Do you want to make life better for LGBT+ victims and survivors of abuse?

Galop, the UK’s LGBT+ anti-abuse charity, is seeking an LGBT+ Independent Victim Advocate to support survivors remotely across the UK. 

Galop works directly with thousands of LGBT+ people who have experienced abuse and violence every year. We specialise in supporting victims and survivors of domestic abuse, sexual violence, hate crime, and other forms of abuse including honour-based abuse, forced marriage, and so-called conversion therapies. We are a service run by LGBT+ people, for LGBT+ people, and the needs of our community are at the centre of what we do.

We run four national support helplines for LGBT+ victims and survivors of: domestic abuse; hate crime; rape and sexual abuse; and so-called “conversion therapy”. We provide advocacy services, both in London and nationally, for LGBT+ victims who need longer-term support. We are person-centred, empowerment-based, and trauma-informed – meaning our focus is always on helping our clients decide what is best for them, and then supporting them through their journey.

We use what we learn through working on the frontlines with clients to work on national and local policy change, to improve outcomes for LGBT+ victims and survivors of abuse and violence. We build evidence through key pieces of research, like our upcoming report into LGBT+ experiences of sexual violence. We push for legislative change, improved statutory guidance for victims, and better understanding of the needs of LGBT+ people around the country. 

We are looking forward to someone to join our growing national advocacy team, supporting survivors remotely across the UK. You will work directly with LGBT+ victims/survivors, offering them a space to talk and think through options, helping them plan what they want to do, and offering assistance in getting what they need from services. Your work will focus on needs specifically related experiences of abuse or violence, including issues such as wellbeing, support with the criminal and civil justice process, safety and access to other services to enable survivors to cope and recover. You will be empathetic and thoughtful in your approach to understanding your clients’ needs, while remaining boundaried and mindful of self-care.

You will work with mainstream services to ensure the voices and experiences of LGBT+ survivors are represented in order to make change for our community at a local and national level. You will also work closely with key partner organisations by attending meetings and have the opportunity to take part in external work to ensure a joined-up approach among services working with LGBT+ people facing abuse and violence. 

You will have expertise in delivering needs-led specialist support services. You will need to be solutions-focussed and enjoy working collaboratively across a diverse and committed team. You’ll need to have good resilience and self-care, and be prepared to work in an environment where abuse and violence are regularly talked about. You’ll need to understand the impact of trauma and how that affects our team.
