We’re a small, creative and fast-growing charity that was established from inside The Economist in 2012. We support children, aged 10 to 16, from under-served backgrounds to develop essential skills for the modern world. We do this by enabling them to join inspiring discussions about the news, which teach them to think critically, communicate effectively and understand global issues.
Our activities
Our programme, Topical Talk, brings about these discussions in four ways:
- We create world-class teaching resources for classroom discussions about global news stories
- We run Topical Talk Festival: the only news festival for young people. Children from countries all over the world join discussions with each other and global experts; and they work towards publishing their opinions in written, audio and film format for the chance to win awards
- We offer Topical Talk Prizes: collections of resources for a series in-depth discussions about a big global issue or theme, following which students submit their work for the chance to win prizes
- We train and support teachers to bring high-quality news discussions into their classrooms; including through intensive, in-person community partnerships in the UK, US and Nigeria
Our impact
Children who take part in Topical Talk can make seven times more progress compared to their peers in creativity, problem-solving, open-minded listening and confident speaking. These skills are linked with better outcomes at school, in employment and as citizens. Our programme has received international recognition, including by HundrED as one of the top 100 educational initiatives of 2020 and 2021, and as first-prize winner of the UNESCO Global Media and Information Literacy Awards 2022.
Our ambitions
We are at an exciting point in our trajectory. We have demonstrated huge growth potential, going from a small UK pilot in 2013 to working with thousands of teachers globally today, including on-the-ground work in the UK and US. There is still an enormous unmet need, so we have bold plans to reach one million children in 2026, with 100,000 engaging on a weekly basis.
THE ROLE
We’re looking for a qualified teacher or ex-teacher who is excited to play a hands-on role in our team, training and building relationships with Topical Talk teachers in the UK and internationally.
You’ll be responsible, alongside our Teacher Engagement and Development Lead, for supporting teachers to get the most from Topical Talk programmes. You’ll do this by building strong relationships with a range of individual teachers, school groups (for example multi-academy trusts) and organisations. You'll be confident communicating with and motivating teachers, and delivering inspiring teacher training in a range of settings in the UK and internationally. You’ll also work directly with 10- to 16-year-old students on a regular basis, to model lessons to teachers, deliver workshops and facilitate online discussions.
From time to time you will work with our content team to give input into the creation of interactive lessons on news topics. You’ll share ideas for class activities or topics, join idea-generation and feedback sessions, and occasionally draft lessons yourself.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Design and deliver teacher training and support to maximise impact of Topical Talk (40%)
- Work with the Teacher Engagement and Development Lead to design and deliver online and in-person teacher training that supports and inspires teachers to run Topical Talk lessons regularly
- Visit schools to observe, and occasionally teach, Topical Talk lessons
- Collect data, such as case studies and progress reports, to help evaluate the impact of Topical Talk
- Test and evaluate different approaches to teacher support in order to continually improve how we work with teachers
Engage students with Topical Talk lessons (30%)
- Deliver inspiring workshops and lessons about the news to young people aged 10 to 16 globally
- Co-plan and present Live Lessons to a global audience
- Facilitate online discussions between young people during Topical Talk Festivals
- Collaborate with the content team to share ideas, give feedback and occasionally draft lessons about the news
Build and nurture effective relationships with teachers, school groups and organisations (30%)
- Build strong relationships with teachers, administrators, local education authorities, school districts or multi-academy trusts, to make Topical Talk a long-term success in the schools
- Monitor and evaluate the impact of Topical Talk in depth in these schools or communities, using evidence to recommend programme-wide changes
- Work with the Head of Marketing and Teacher Engagement Development Lead to recruit schools to participate in Topical Talk Festival, liaising with teachers and persistently following up as needed
- Support teachers to get ready to participate in the Topical Talk Festival, including briefing them, guiding them through the sign-up process and answering their questions / troubleshooting
This role will involve international travel so a valid passport is required. It also involves working with young people, so you will need to have an enhanced DBS check (which The Foundation will organise).

- Experience of building relationships and managing stakeholders to secure what’s needed from them
- A proven track record of planning, analysing and reporting on projects

Partnership Manager - Wales
Location: The role will be based out of the BookTrust Offices in Cardiff. BookTrust works in a hybrid and flexible way with an expectation of a minimum of 8 face to face collaboration days per month which could be at the Cardiff office, visiting partners across Wales and on occasions UK wide travel. There will therefore be reasonable travel needed to fulfil the role, with occasional overnight stays.

The role:
We believe Street Child has a huge opportunity to achieve even more growth in the Corporate Partnerships sector by diversifying our coverage and relationships into new industries and growth markets. The New Business Manager role will play a key role in leading our New Business activity outside of our existing portfolio. Reporting to our recently appointed Senior Manager for Partnership and New Business, your role will involve:
1. Core New Business activity: Researching and development of prospect lists for priority industries to implement New Business campaigns capable of securing multi-year high value partnerships. Responsibility for building Street Child’s network of corporate relationships and growing pipeline of corporate partnership opportunities.
2. Partnership and proposition development: Working closely with our colleagues in the Corporate Partnerships and Global Programme Funding teams to develop engaging and impactful partnership plans and project propositions, focusing on priority countries and programmes to support Street Child’s strategy and mission.
3. Corporate engagement with events: Utilising the portfolio of events Street Child has across the year to engage and steward corporate relationships, including Street Child owned events and external events including the World Economic Forum and UN General Assembly.
4. Supporting on cross-organisational fundraising activations: Leading on new corporate engagement activities, including new fundraising and sponsorship activations, to support cross-organisational initiatives including our Spring Gala, annual Back to School Campaign and other key milestones throughout the year.
Key activities in this role:
- Development of New Business engagement plans – identifying, researching, engaging and cultivating new corporate prospects and relationships;
- Implementing ambitious New Business campaigns to target priority industries, including the oversight of prospecting and marketing mapping activity;
- Management of new business pipeline and prospect lists, including use and maintenance of corporate prospects data on CRM;
- Close collaboration with Partnership Development and Account Management teams to promote best practice corporate donor stewardship and partnership delivery;
- Active networking and attending various international events to maximise New Business opportunities;
- Consistent, proactive New Business activity via Street Child networks and cold approaches;
- Searching for suitable open corporate partnership opportunities/calls to apply to and working with colleagues to submit high quality applications;
- Supporting our corporate advocacy events, including inviting new corporate attendees for Street Child events - and working with colleagues to help plan/strategise Street Child presence as appropriate (including Davos, UNGA);
- Working with colleagues to develop our corporate propositions – both fundraising products and exciting, innovative new project proposals alongside our Programme Funding teams.

The Young Women’s Keyworker will work with young women aged 15-24 to provide specialist 1:1 support to those referred into the service. The service is designed to be a “whole system” response to women and girls in the Criminal Justice System, so a key part of the role will include building relationships with statutory and VCS agencies, to support and encourage more young women to access the Minerva service, as well as setting up specialist referral pathways for young women in the community.
About You:
To be successful as the Young Women’s Keyworker you will:
Bring an in-depth knowledge of issues facing women offenders and those at risk of offending; both in and out of the Criminal Justice System. Have a strong understanding of the context and challenges facing vulnerable young women and girls, including the impacts of domestic violence, mental health, and sexual health.
Bring a significant experience of working with young women experiencing issues related to offending and experience of community engagement, advocacy and support work with young people and have proven practical experience of using motivational interviewing and coaching techniques with young women and girls, using a woman-centred approach to build trust and rapport. You will demonstrate the ability to work in partnership with relevant statutory and voluntary groups, developing and maintaining strong constructive working relationships.

About the role
Peer support roles are specifically for people who have lived experience of mental health problems. Through sharing wisdom from their own experiences, peer support staff will inspire hope and belief that recovery is possible in others. You will work with the Wellbeing Assessors and Team Leads to provide wellbeing support to patients within your particular Primary Care Network (PCN). This part of the Solent Mind Wellbeing Service provides one-to-one wellbeing support within the GP practices, working alongside the wider Primary Mental Health & Wellbeing Service.
Peer support is short-term support given to people who need extra support with the ‘doing’ side in their recovery journey. By using their own experiences to help each other and providing a safe space where people feel accepted and understood, Peer Support Workers encourage participants to identify their own strengths, triggers and life goals and support people to develop and use a range of skills and techniques to help their wellbeing.
This is a part-time role for 22.5 hours per week (over three weekdays: Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday working across the New Forest PCN (Lymington/Milford-on-Sea/Lyndhurst).
About you
Educated to a minimum of level 2 standard or extensive relevant experience, you will have lived experience of mental health problems and using mental health services. Experience working with people with mental health needs in a paid or voluntary capacity is desirable. You’ll also have excellent team-working skills, including listening, constructive feedback, respect and dignity, and skill-sharing.

The Street Child Associate programme is a fantastic entry-level opportunity to gain a breadth of experience whilst making a serious contribution to one of the UK’s fastest growing international development organisations - at a crucial time.
This is not an internship where you ‘do the photocopying and make the tea’. You will be doing important, varied, hands-on work from day one. Moreover, Street Child has an unparalleled track-record of rewarding outstanding Associates with permanent positions in the UK team; and/or the opportunity to be seconded to one of our country programmes, for those considering a field-career in humanitarian/development.
Associates will have the opportunity to build skills and experience across a breadth of core fundraising disciplines, as well as excellent exposure to the broader programmatic work of the charity, with opportunities for engagement. Key duties may include: research; proposal drafting, design and writing; supporter engagement; participant support & management (for our events & sponsored challenges); data management and administration; communication support (including social media). Prior experience in any of these areas is not essential but would be beneficial. What is essential is demonstrating outstanding aptitude, passion, and the desire to make an impact and progress your personal development, fast. Training is provided.
This is a demanding role (lots of adverts say this, to be clear: here it is true) - and is suited to passionate, ambitious individuals who enjoy being busy, stretched and working hard (actually – again these are not just trite advert lines; this opportunity is only appropriate for those for whom this is accurate!).
Associate roles are paid at the appropriate National Minimum Wage rate and are initially expected to work 3 – 5 days a week during the first 3 months. This arrangement may be positively reviewed at the 3-month stage, especially in the case of excellent performance.
You would be primarily working from our Central London office.

As Green Connections Community Coordinator, you’ll champion and build relationships with communities in Darnall and the S9 area. You will work with the Curator of Natural Sciences to facilitate a programme of activity, for example events, displays, workshops, nature walks or digital content, developed in collaboration with communities. The Job
The purpose of the job is to:
· Build relationships and liaise with community groups in Darnall and the wider S9 area, in order to increase awareness of and engagement with Sheffield’s collections and museums.
· Work with the Curator of Natural Science to facilitate a programme of activity (for example events, displays, exhibitions, workshops, nature walks, films or other digital outputs) developed in collaboration with communities, inspired by Sheffield’s Natural Science collection and on the theme of climate and environmental crisis.
· Promote and facilitate access to Sheffield’s collections.
· Work with the Curator of Natural Science to plan and co-ordinate the Green Connection project.
· Work with colleagues to develop and test evaluation models.
The Bigger Picture
You will:
· Actively listen to communities, learn about their needs, the barriers to engagement and perceptions of Sheffield Museums to evolve our working practices and programmes in order to be more inclusive and useful.
· Help to create, sustain and retain connections with individuals and communities, broker relationships and inspire people to engage with Sheffield’s collections and natural heritage. Show that museums provide a vital and relevant service to the city’s population.
· Utilise and test collaborative working practices and provide feedback that will be shared across Sheffield Museums.
· Work collaboratively with communities, colleagues, creative practitioners and other specialists, to deliver outputs inspired and directed by communities, connecting their needs with Sheffield’s natural science collections and wider natural heritage, to improve engagement with, and ownership of, Sheffield’s collections and environment.
· Contribute to and deliver against Sheffield Museums’ strategic plan, significantly increasing community ownership and the different perspectives and lived experiences that are represented in the city’s collection.
· Advocate for wider ownership of the collection across the city, proactively sharing information about the collection with colleagues, visitors, partners and communities.
· Facilitate access to the collections through visits to the store, digital platforms, and workshops.
· Develop a network of individuals and community representatives who will advocate for the role and importance of the museums and collections within the city.
· Help to supervise and administer volunteers and community project participants to support this work.
The Day to Day
You will:
· Help to identify community partners in Darnall and establish trusting relationships with them. Liaise directly with them, helping to identify their needs and develop opportunities for the museums and collections to be useful to partners.
· Collaboratively facilitate projects with communities that will use the collections to explore environmental change in different ways, trying new things and evaluating impact.
· Act as a representative and advocate of Sheffield Museums and liaise with external stakeholders and partners including but not limited to universities, community and interest groups, creative and environmental practitioners, businesses and specialist network agencies, taking the opportunity to promote fundraising where appropriate.
· Be responsible for your own safety, the safety of colleagues and visitors, taking all appropriate measures required to maintain the security and safety of collections, buildings and people
· Monitor the activity of volunteers to ensure a high standard of service is provided.
· Be available for out of hours emergency call out at all sites as required.
· Undertake any other reasonable duties that may be required by the post holder.

Key Responsibilities
- Client Relationship Management:

About the role
Our Surrey Volunteer Recruitment Manager (VRM), who must be based in or very close to Surrey, works closely with VRMs in Herts and London and our marketing team to promote the MCR programme to organisations and individuals. About the role
Peer support roles are specifically for people who have lived experience of mental health problems. Through sharing wisdom from their own experiences, peer support staff will inspire hope and belief that recovery is possible in others. You will work with the Wellbeing Assessors and Team Leads to provide wellbeing support to patients within your particular Primary Care Network (PCN). Peer support is short-term support given to people who need extra support with the ‘doing’ side in their recovery journey. By using their own experiences to help each other and providing a safe space where people feel accepted and understood, Peer Support Workers encourage participants to identify their own strengths, triggers and life goals and support people to develop and use a range of skills and techniques to help their wellbeing.
This is a part-time role for 22.5 hours per week (three weekdays including Wednesday) working across the Coastal PCN (New Milton/Barton-on-Sea/Lymington).

Educated to a minimum of level 2 standard or extensive relevant experience, you will have lived experience of mental health problems and using mental health services. Experience working with people with mental health needs in a paid or voluntary capacity is desirable.
