About us
Who we are
Our mission is to transform loneliness into connection among isolated people and under-served groups in and around Tower Hamlets. Our vision for Tower Hamlets is a place where nobody is chronically lonely or isolated, and everyone feels like they belong.
Our projects help isolated people develop the key qualities, supports and relationships to combat loneliness and improve wellbeing. We currently work with recently-arrived refugee and migrant women who have suffered trauma and older people at risk of loneliness and isolation, as they often have the least access to support.
The health and wellbeing of our employees, freelancers and volunteers is really important to us, and we work to embody our values through every part of our organisation, in the ways that we work, and in the benefits that we offer.
Our culture and values
The way that we work is as important to us as the outcomes of what we do. We commit to accessibility, inclusiveness, clear and kind communication in service delivery. We also work to create positive, ethical and caring working and learning environments.
While our organisation is inspired by Buddhist values around compassionate action to transform suffering, our projects are for everyone, and our staff, trustees, volunteers and freelance workers come from a wide range of faiths and backgrounds. We aim to be a diverse, inclusive organisation that represents the communities we serve, as we believe this makes our work as effective as it can possibly be.
Equality, diversity and inclusion policy
GCP is committed to promoting equal opportunities in employment and creating a workplace culture in which diversity and inclusion is valued and everyone is treated with dignity and respect. As part of GCP’s zero-tolerance approach to discrimination in any form, employees and job applicants will receive equal treatment regardless of age, disability, gender reassignment, marital or civil partner status, pregnancy or maternity, race, colour, nationality, ethnic or national origin, religion or belief, sex or sexual orientation (Protected Characteristics). GCP is also committed to providing equitable treatment to all those we deal with as an organisation, including all those who use our services, partner organisations and suppliers.
GCP's aim is to encourage and support diversity, equality and inclusion and actively promote a culture that values difference and eliminates discrimination in GCP's workplace. It applies to all aspects of employment with the organisation, including recruitment, pay, benefits and conditions, flexible working and leave, training, appraisals, promotion, conduct at work, disciplinary and grievance procedures, and termination of employment. Our full policy is available to all employees as part of our Staff Handbook.
