This exciting new role is an opportunity to be a strategic leader at the forefront of social and economic research, developing IES’s research on employment, skills and education policy, to achieve tangible impact on employment policy and practice.
Due to growth in our public policy research, we are recruiting to a new senior leadership role to support our Director of Public Policy and Research to co-lead our multi-million pound programme of research across employment policy collaboratively ensuring it is delivered effectively and to clients’ satisfaction. The postholder will be a credible and experienced researcher, motivated to support our team of policy researchers across the full breadth of our work and will play a critical leadership role in supporting and managing the policy research team. They will support and delegate for the Director of public policy in building, developing and managing a broad array of client and partner relationships across policy areas. They will be a representative and advocate for IES policy research, able to disseminate and influence across the themes we cover.
The postholder will also play a leadership role in developing the Institute more widely, leading strategic projects to build our capacity and capability, facilitating others to do likewise. They will be able to engage and motivate staff and capable of clear and transparent decision-making. Alongside, they will grow and develop their own programme of employment policy research.
In particular, the role involves:
Research development and thought leadership
■ Generating substantial, annual income for self and others;
■ Becoming a known thought leader for the IES portfolio, regularly disseminating and advising IES clients and policymakers, to increase IES’s profile;
■ Managing and directing significant projects consistently to an excellent standard, achieving client satisfaction and maintaining client relationships to build potential for further work;
■ Advocating for high quality research and evaluation to build the evidence for what works in improving employment outcomes;
■ Being a conduit for IES values within IES and in the external context;
■ Developing and maintaining effective links with existing and potential clients and partners, monitoring market trends, identifying new opportunities for IES, and proactively suggesting new lines of work for us;
■ Promoting evidence-based policy and practice to lead towards sustainable improvements in public policy.
Internal leadership and development
■ Co-develop the policy business plan with the Director of Policy Research and support the delivery of the Institute’s annual business plan;
■ Play a leading role in operational management meetings and chairing other internal meetings, particularly related to effective project and programme delivery;
■ Be effective in directing and managing a programme of research, being a role model for excellent project delivery and client relationship management;
■ Leading researcher development through effective line management of senior and principal researchers and supporting the development of early careers researchers through project work and L&D sessions.
■ Strong capabilities in risk management and mitigation, identifying emergent issues and able to intervene early and effectively to control these;
■ Play a leading role in the development of the IES policy research programme, encouraging a culture of leadership and support across our team;
■ Lead continuous improvement activity, engaging staff to realise improvements in their own and the institute’s practice;
■ Be committed to equity, diversity and inclusion, encouraging all staff at IES to achieve their best;
■ Other duties as required by institute directors.
What we are looking for
The successful candidate will have leadership potential, be a highly skilled, credible researcher, known for subject expertise related to employment matters. They will have a strong understanding of high quality and robust programme delivery to time and budget and be able to mentor and coach others to achieve the same. In addition, successful candidates will possess the following:
■ Capability to co-lead and co-deliver a multi-million pound programme of research related to public policy research.
■ Commercial awareness and business acumen, with understanding of working styles within a small, charitable business.
■ Proven track record of generating substantial portfolio of income, to build work portfolio for self and others.
■ Experience in effectively managing and developing people for high performance and a focus on professional growth for self and others.
■ Exceptional self-organisational and presentational skills, with the ability to lead a programme of work, direct projects and support teams to work well with clients.
■ Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to represent a range of employment topics and convey complex concepts and findings accessibly to a variety of different audiences, including policymakers, the media and the wider public.
■ The skills and expertise to develop new income, and/or to lead high quality bids, with aspects of innovation within commissioned briefs to ensure IES is a preferred supplier.
■ A track record of research related to a detailed understanding of UK employment and social policy.
■ Demonstrable research capability, and understanding of methods and implications for reliability of findings.
■ Excellent academic qualifications in social sciences or related field or evidence of equivalent experience.
Working at IES
We support flexible working and will consider applications from candidates seeking to work flexibly or part-time. The post will be based in our office in central Brighton, although we work in a hybrid way. We would expect the postholder to be prepared to travel to Brighton or London for group meetings on occasion.
Salary: will be within a range of £70,000-£72,000 (full time equivalent) based on skills and experience.

Our Programme Officer role is vital to the smooth running of our Systems Improvement team’s projects. You will be a key part of our delivery which focuses on supporting multi-agency local area partnerships to improve their SEND systems & processes. In particular, we see a key element of this role as supporting our work which supports local areas to improve inclusion in all of their educational settings.
Programme Officers are given discrete elements of projects to lead and deliver with engagement from other team members and an identified project lead. One day you might be co-facilitating a focus group with parent carers to understand the current strengths and challenges of co-production in a specific local area; and the next, analysing a local area’s data to shape the next steps of a project improving outcomes for children with special educational needs and disability.
This role will support the delivery of and take responsibility for identified elements of NCB and Council For Disabled Children’s (CDC) multi-agency SEND Systems Improvement contracts, which aim to improve practice and in turn influence policy. You will work with a variety of stakeholders including the Department for Education, Parent Carer Representative bodies and Integrated Care Systems from across England alongside local authorities working collaboratively to ensure the best outcomes for children and young people.

An Outreach Practitioner is required to work on an initial 3-month contract for a drug and alcohol charity based in East London.
The role of an Outreach Practitioner is to provide high-quality street-based drug and alcohol interventions to people who are homeless or at danger of becoming so in order to promote positive outcomes.
They will oversee, evidence-based interventions, recovery planning, and aftercare planning while managing a small, complex caseload.
Responsibilities:
- Engage and reengage homeless individuals misusing substances by conducting street outreach, building relationships along the way.
- As part of a well-integrated care package, provide evidence-based psychosocial one-on-one therapies and adopt a proactive stance when dealing with service user disengagement.
- This includes naloxone programs, recovery interventions, opiate replacement therapy, blood-borne virus intervention, assertive outreach, needle and syringe program delivery, and harm reduction advice, guidance, and education.
- Participate in internal and external multidisciplinary review meetings and collaborate with housing teams, local authority officers, and other treatment agencies to encourage individuals in seeking treatment in order to reduce the occurrence of antisocial behaviour and street drinking.
Experience Required:
- Proven ability to provide individuals with complex needs with high-quality services. This includes having the capacity to work one-on-one or lead group sessions, complete assessments, care and support plans, risk assessments, and case recording in a timely manner and to a high degree.
- Enthusiasm for working with disadvantaged or socially excluded people, with a track record of meeting deadlines, properly and promptly recording information, writing reports, and remaining composed under pressure.

We are looking for an Employment Specialist to join our Surrey Employment Service. We help individuals with mental health problems to find paid employment or return to their current role after a period of ill health. We also assist employers and employees to successfully resolve mental health problems in the workplace. But, it’s only possible with the help of people like you.
Your challenge? To do everything you can to help the individuals we work with to source appropriate work experience placements with local organisations/employers. Day to day, you’ll offer support, careers advice and guidance, helping people to set their own recovery and employment-focused goals and provide training in personal and skills development such as CV preparation, interview techniques etc. You’ll also be responsible for establishing and maintaining positive links with community mental health teams (CMHRS), Early Intervention Into Psychosis (EIIP) Teams, partner organisations, local employers and other relevant agencies and have the initiative to develop and promote the service. Additionally, you will have responsibility for maintaining efficient admin systems to ensure referrals, assessments and reviews are completed in a timely manner.
As well as a good understanding of the IPS model of working, mental health problems and the issues and barriers this can create for our clients, you’ll need excellent motivational, presentation and listening skills and a willingness to travel in the local area and to work outside of office hours as required.
There is one vacancy being recruited for covering a smaller geographical area of West Surrey however, the delivery is Surrey and borders-wide. The successful candidate will be based in our Woking office. The post-holder will therefore be a car driver, with access to their own vehicle.
This is a permanent part-time role requiring the post holder to work 30 hours per week.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Hub Administrative Assistant to work alongside our Hub Team Administrator for a fixed-term, from January 2025 until June 2025. This role will support our Community Work Manager with the administration necessary to deliver our community work. This currently includes two food pantry sessions a week, and a combined pop-up pantry and Living Room (warm space) session each week.
Key responsibilities of this role will be:
· To process applications to hub projects and manage communication with project members.
· To co-ordinate volunteer communications.
· To create and manage volunteer rotas.
· To ensure team leaders have all relevant information for each session.
· To ensure data is populated and managed accurately, and according to GDPR requirements.
The successful post holder must have:
· Excellent administration skills and attention to detail.
· Proven people skills and experience in relation to community work or the charity sector.
· Able to liaise with staff and volunteers from external organisations at all levels.

This vacancy involves a unique opportunity to be the Sex Worker ISVA Learning and Policy Influencing Lead of an exciting new regional partnership program alongside National Ugly Mugs and POW (Notthingham) funded by the National Lottery Communities Fund. We are looking for a dynamic, enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our East Sussex Transitional Housing team, providing safe, secure accommodation for young people aged 18-25, who have been, or are at risk of homelessness. The team offers a support package alongside the accommodation to actively encourage residents into education, training, employment or voluntary work.
This role will primarily involve lone working, where you will have the autonomy to manage your tasks and responsibilities independently. However, you will be part of a supportive team, keeping in regular contact and where necessary working together. You will receive an induction where you will work alongside an experienced member of the team before lone working.
You will have your own caseload of residents, visiting them in their homes and supporting them in the community.You will contribute to the smooth and safe running of the service by providing consistency and reliability. You will have a calm, yet assertive manner, being able to handle potentially difficult situations. You will also support young people to safeguard themselves against abuse and risk.

Experience and Knowledge
- Experience relating to housing, support work, and/or working with young people at risk

- Knowledge of good safeguarding procedures in relation to young people and the ability to maintain effective professional boundaries.
- Demonstrated confidence and competence in recording notes/actions in service log, incident forms and health and safety check lists.

Role Overview:

You will split your time between relationship management of existing partnerships and new opportunities, supporting this team to conduct thorough prospect research into our priority sectors, make approaches to prospective partners and supporting with the development of bids.
Key responsibilities

Leading on the relationship management and stewardship of a portfolio of UK Youth’s low to mid value Trusts & Foundations, maximising income and other mutually beneficial opportunities across in-kind.

Championing existing partnerships internally to ensure the partnership’s expectations are delivered and exceeded. This includes working to secure engagement from Senior Leadership and relevant colleagues across Communications and Engagement.

Our client is an independent, Lambeth-based, grant-making foundation and charity with roots from the early 17th century. Their work aims to break cycles of financial deprivation for people living in Lambeth by awarding grants to individuals, organisations and community groups. The charity's grant-making is primarily focused on improving education and employment opportunities of young Lambeth residents from low-income backgrounds. This is an exciting time to join the organisation which is in the early stages of an evolving strategic review.
Prospectus is delighted to be working with this foundation in their search for a Grants Officer, who will support the Head of Grants and the wider team in the development of a place-based grants strategy. This is a full-time, permanent position based in Lambeth, London (Hybrid working – 2 days from home 3 days in the office).
The role:
This role will work across all of the foundation's grant-making activities including assessing and administering grant applications from individuals, working with organisations to develop effective and appropriate reporting and supporting the development of new streams of work. The role requires contact with applicants (initially via email and telephone) and will involve monitoring & evaluation, project development and administration process management, in addition to contributing ideas towards planning new initiatives and keeping abreast of trends and issues facing the voluntary sector, both nationally and in the Lambeth area.
The work requires outstanding attention to detail and effective time management. The post holder will also undertake assessments in relation to grants to organisations, and other grant-making duties and functions as required by the Head of Grants. The post will sit alongside an existing team of three who also undertake multiple roles to ensure the foundation's grant-making is consistent, focussed and effective.
The person:
This person will have a high level of intellectual and analytical ability, this could be evidenced by having studied to degree level, a professional qualification of some kind or having worked at a comparable level of complexity in a professional office-based environment. They will have a solid understanding of the issues facing young people (18 to 30) from low-income backgrounds and will have the ability to present clear written assessment reports, making recommendations and decisions and the ability to think strategically as well as practically, to ensure the foundation is living its values. They will have excellent attention to detail and will be an effective time manager. Ideally, this person will have experience of Salesforce database or similar and possibly have a local knowledge of Lambeth and the surrounding areas.
IT competent, numerate, and highly organised, this person will have experience of grant-making or at least an understanding of its principles, hopefully a knowledge of the welfare and benefits framework and will be fully appreciative of the issues raised in a multi-cultural setting and an understanding of and a commitment to, issues of diversity and equality. Above all this person will recognise the importance and value of the work of the charity and will be fully committed to bringing everything they have to the table, in supporting and driving forward the charitable aims and objectives of the organisation, whilst contributing to a happy, proactive and collaborative team working environment.
