Job Context

The Lighthouse retail portfolio prides itself on innovation and creativity ,offering the sale of preloved goods in an array of shops within local communities. Lighthouse retail has 34 stores across Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire run by paid staff and volunteers. Our retail vison revolves around ‘The People’ within the organisation with a view to invest and develop to reach our fullest potential.

The People Manager will be responsible for overseeing the staffing across each one of our stores, ensuring that shops are fully staffed day to day. They will need a practical and engaging approach to enable staff to thrive in their roles and feel supported to meet the charity’s vision and mission. They will work alongside the rest of the retail team ensuring the aims and objectives of the people strategy are achieved.

Key Tasks & Responsibilities

People Management

- Be responsible and accountable for the day-to-day operations relating to the people side of retail.
- Ensure the shop team and volunteer relationship is a professional and successful one
- Act as the first point of contact for the volunteer administrator in relation to volunteering matters and queries for retail.
- Effectively communicate any relevant information to all shop teams regarding updates, charity activities, incentives, and performance.
- Work closely with management and employees to embed changes and ensure solutions are realistic and sustainable.
- Be able to work closely with the retail management team including the retail sales manager to ensure the people side of the charity is not impacting sales.
- Overseeing the retail portfolio sickness and absence management including allocation and approval of annual leave throughout the year, forward planning contingency strategies ensuring shops are covered all the time even at short notice. Ensuring staffing hours do not exceed there’re banding allocation.
- Be competent in assisting with grievances, supporting with investigations and assisting with disciplinaries.
- Act as deputy safeguarding lead as and when required. Be able to act in an advisory capacity demonstrating a higher level of experience and understanding when dealing with safeguarding issues that arise.
- Be responsible for overseeing and leading with probation placements across our retail sites, acting as point of contact and ensuring that the relevant paperwork is up to date including the risk assessments for each placement.

People Development

- Ability to mentor and support staff through regular one to ones ensuring that they feel fully equipped to achieve optimum success in their work.
- Collaboratively with the HR team review and update the volunteer induction and training programme ensuring all aspects are relevant to the retail portfolio.
- Support staff with capability and performance issues including the management of their own staff issues such as, sickness, disciplinary, grievances and concerns through probation periods.
- Work closely with the retail management team on the delivery of innovative and interactive internal and external training to help staff develop their skill sets and achieve career satisfaction.

Recruitment & Onboarding

- Work closely with HR developing and implementing strategies to improve recruitment, attracting suitable staff, and retaining them.
- Ensure suitable and sufficient coverage of volunteer support in the retail portfolio.
- Lead on the recruitment of new staff members, being able to assist shop managers in developing better teams and building strong foundations in line with the people strategy and recruitment and selection policy.
- Ensure that new staff members are fully trained and placed in a suitable training store.
- Monitor and track performance throughout staff probation periods alongside the retail sales manager.

The Royal United Services Institute (RUSI) is one of the world’s leading research think-tanks in the field of defence, security, and geopolitics. The Research Business Development team was established in 2023 to support RUSI’s nine research groups to meet their annual funding targets by responding to competitive bids, proactively identifying new funding opportunities, and sharing best practice across the organisation.​

​Main purpose of the post​

We are seeking to appoint a Strategic Bids Manager with experience in managing the development and submissions process for successful research bids, to be part of a wider team that spearheads RUSI’s research fundraising efforts. Reporting to the Director, Research Business Development, the successful candidate will lead the process for preparing high-value bids, including drafting sections of the narrative and reviewing budgets, and be responsible for building central resources to improve and facilitate effective business development operations. This is a highly collaborative role that involves building very strong internal relationships at all levels of the organisation and with external stakeholders and skilfully managing competing priorities, personalities, and deadlines. We are seeking a team player with a pragmatic and positive attitude, who will enjoy learning about RUSI’s research areas and building stronger systems and processes to help us to make Business Development more efficient and successful.

​Key tasks​

• For UK Government, US Government, EU and Canadian Government bids, and bids over £100,000 value to RUSI:
• Serve as the institutional point of contact for the key funders listed above – attend Early Market Engagements/supplier events, funder events, webinars, to ensure you are up to date on their priorities and RUSI is competitive with our bids. Maintain a centralised database and disseminate up-to-date information on each funder’s practices, key dates, preferences, upcoming opportunities etc.
• For all other bids, review budgets for accuracy, competitiveness and to ensure costs are in line with RUSI’s policies and previous submissions, and, once finalised, seek approval from the COO.
• Work with the Director for Research Business Development, Research Directors and the Deputy Director General to identify and cultivate new relationships within each of the key funders, ensuring that we have good awareness of upcoming plans, expectations and priorities.
• Facilitate links to partner organisations (primes) and build and manage consortia-based relationships to ensure we have oversight of upcoming opportunities and are able to negotiate successful partnerships.
• Ensure use of best practice across research groups in our approach to bids and budgets, and that key documents, outcomes, research impact, and decisions are saved centrally for future use.
• With support from the BD team, develop and execute a plan to inform, train and mentor research and central services colleagues on best practice for bids, including a focus on wider business awareness.
• Respond to due diligence requests received by RUSI from research funders, ensure we have a central database of up-to-date policies and documents required to respond successfully and quickly.
• Work with the Business Development team to build organisational systems and processes for effective BD, collaborate with BD colleagues to share feedback and ideas, support each other, and develop central projects to improve BD across the organisation.
• Attend Business Development meetings with research groups and build strong relationships with project managers and project officers, capturing feedback and seeking input to BD processes and practices.
• Manage the process for new funder approvals with the Deputy Director General.
• Be a member of RUSI’s Research Committee and report on bid statuses and other relevant information when needed.

Essential Skills and Experience:

• An extensive track record of submitting high-quality research project proposals to the funders listed above, with a demonstrable success rate.
• Able to produce clear, accurate and insightful written output, setting high standards and enhancing our external reputation through the production of strong bids.
• Skilled at dealing with high-pressured situations with sensitivity and in a calm manner.
• A track record of producing and reviewing small, medium, and large project budgets, often with specific funder requirements, and an understanding of how to develop competitive financial bids.
• Strong knowledge and awareness of common requirements for bid submissions, including statements on duty of care, quality assurance, supply chain management, gender, and diversity, equity, and inclusion.
• Outstanding time management skills and a willingness to work flexibly, juggling shifting priorities and competing deadlines, managing people’s expectations effectively. Ability to agree and uphold effective boundaries to protect your time, with support from the Director of Research Business Development.
• Existing contacts or connections to partners from RUSI’s key funding institutions and/or primes.
• A good understanding of contractual matters and experience in resolving them.

• Strong IT and Microsoft skills (Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint)
• Project management certification such as Prince 2.

Role Profile

Role summary

This role is multifaceted, helping Cornwall VSF to deliver our contracts effectively.It is envisaged that this role will initially be solely focussed on the People in Mind contract.It is anticipated that once the Programme Lead is embedded into the PiM service, that a second contract will be added to their portfolio.

Key Duties

Programme management.

Create, update, communicate and manage the overarching programme plan, contract risk register monitoring, budget, and evaluation - reporting progress on a quarterly basis.Ensure the plan reflects the bid and where plans have diversified, ensure rational is communicated to the partnership and commissioners.

Develop and manage trusted relationships all levels to ensure effective networks, communication and collaboration are created, nurtured, and enhanced.

Develop excellent relationships with ICS stakeholders (including NHS, local authority, and commercial organisations). Manage relationships all levels to ensure effective networks, communication and collaboration are created, nurtured, and enhanced.

Work with VSF’s Leadership and Finance Officer to ensure the budget lines you are responsible for are effectively managed, monitoring spend against profile on at minimum a quarterly basis.If underspends are incurred work with the partnership to ensure funds are re-prioritised.

Develop and oversee the referral processes and reporting.

Ensure that points of referral such as the Community Gateway have the information needed about the providers to make accurate referral assessments.

Provide guidance to partnership about enquiry routes.

Develop and maintain an in-depth understanding of each separate delivery element.

Develop and oversee various levels of governance within the programme, e.g. steering group, programme managers, people with lived experience.

Formalise the governance arrangements for the contracts, working closely with the Steering Group to ensure governance enables ambitions.

Ensure all partners are meeting commitments in their bid proposals and contracts.Lead on partner relationship management.

Where gaps in provision are identified facilitate partnership discussions and feed into learning cycle to ensure decisions are made in a timely fashion.If the partnership decides to add new core partners, ensure that a detailed specification is created.

Manage delivery of the insight and impact of the programmes including a Human Learning Systems approach to insight, and Social Return on Investment approach to impacts, working closely with VSFs Intelligence and Impact specialist.

Proactively identify and develop emerging initiatives and opportunities for the VCSE sector, relevant to your contracts.Horizon scan for additional opportunities.

Organise and facilitate engagement events with the wider VCSE sector, including sessions with ICB/Cornwall Council and colleagues from outside the sector.

Work with senior leadership to develop and manages processes for conflict management, safeguarding and crisis management, quality assurance, provider underperformance, complaints, provider diversification or negotiations for provider service amendments.

Grant Funds

Lead on Cornwall Community Foundation contract liaison ensuring grant funding is delivered as planned, that the learning approach is embedded, reporting provides the data needed and that VSF has the communications content required.

Work with our learning partner to ensure learning events are well plan and that learning questions and plans are available well ahead of time.

Annually set the priority target areas for VCSE grant funding budgets, by facilitating discussion with the partnership and the Cornwall VSF team.

Ensure that learning is fully considered by the steering group and that delivery changes as a result of learning.

Ensure appropriate performance, impact and financial reporting processes are established for any grant elements within VSF’s management, governance procedures, and standards.

Personal health budgets

Working with wider VCSE partners, create a specification of what the programme requires from a PHB delivery provider, that includes guidance, process, forms, data, analysis, follow up with recipient and data capture and analysis from the follow up.

Work with learning partner to determine a learning approach for PHB.

Develop reporting measures for PHB and update information quarterly.

Human learning system approach

Work with learning partner to create a plan for the learning approach that covers all aspects of the partnership and on prioritise learning outcome that can be accommodated.

Facilitate the steering group considering learning and discussing potential changes to plans and service delivery.

Engage and lead on elements when required for programme managers, practitioners and CWF grantees learning sessions.

Reporting

Work with the Programme Coordinator and Intelligence and Impact lead to ensure the programme is capture all data required to enable continuous improvement of the programme.

Ensure that data is analysed to demonstrate important intelligence and impact and the relevant information is shared with Comms officers to feed into the Communications plan.

Lead on reporting to wider partnership on collective performance.

Lead on quarterly reporting to commissioners at quarterly online or face to face meetings.

Ensure end of programme reporting offers evidence of the value and impact of the partnership in readiness for re-commissioning

Communications

Work with the Communications (comms) Officer to create a communications strategy and delivery plan that will be shared with partners and funders.

Work with the Comms Officer to ensure that comms reporting metrics are determined so that appropriate data can be captured.

Oversee the creation of a comms brand strategy and guidance for the partnership, comms templates such as impact stories, case studies, requests for comms support, partner comms plans.

Ensure the comms officer works with partners to develop comms plans for their element of the service and that partners report back on their comms activities, this should be collated for impactful reporting to commissioners and for analysis on what has provided good return on either time or money spent.

Through various teaching methods and resources, including travel to partner centres, we empower overseas healthcare professionals (HCPs). TLC is the 'go-to' organisation for fledgling transplant programmes. We achieve this through direct training, transplant missions and observerships supplemented with mentoring, online teaching, resources and support

We are looking for a Partner Centre Project Manager who will manage all aspects of TLC partner projects. The Partner Centre Project Manager will be responsible for delivering the objectives outlined in the strategy and managing the training/mentoring programs for partner centres.

The TLC Team

Transplant Links is a small, flexible, and highly motivated team comprising a CEO, Director of Medical Activities, and Project Administrator. The Partner Centre Project Manager will report directly to the CEO, and collaborate closely with the Director of Medical Activities, working with over 50 NHS volunteers.

The Role

As we have expanded our global reach we need a Partner Centre Project Manager to develop and implement training programs in our partner centres worldwide. Primary responsibilities include project management of partner centres coordinating their training and resource allocation, and stakeholder communication  (healthcare institutions, supporters, HCPs). This involves organising missions, where a team of UK volunteers travels to facilitate living donor kidney transplants in situ. These missions will be led and supervised by the project manager.

The Partner Centre Project Manager also assesses and addresses the evolving needs of partner medical centres, ensuring that the training programs remain pertinent and customised to the specific requirements of partner centres. They will monitor the program’s expenditure within agreed budgets and ensure compliance of the activities and expenditure with TLC policies, whilst also taking the lead on program reporting to supporters. Crucially, they will be responsible for liaising with local program leaders (doctors, nurses and hospital managers), volunteer HCPs from the UK and stakeholders in the field (often Health Ministries and hospital management).

Primary accountabilities include: the completion of missions within a given time frame; abiding by the policies and procedures in place to ensure the safety of TLC volunteers and staff; identifying and managing risks within programs and proposing mitigation strategies; moving each partner centre through the phases of development as per the strategy; assessing prospective partner centres; progress reporting and communicating performance; managing budgets and resourcing requirements

Example tasks include meeting online with partner centres; writing plans and budgets for overseas missions; meeting online with a current or potential sponsor of a partner centre; liaising with TLC volunteers; facilitating meetings with key stakeholders; making in person visits in UK and abroad; working with TLC volunteers to design itineraries for upcoming observerships; preparing performance reports on centre progress and KPI’s

Role Requirements - Candidate Specification

We work in partnership with Age UK Buckinghamshire to deliver the Hospital Discharge Support Service. The service covers the county of Buckinghamshire and aims to improve the experience of people leaving hospital, at what can be a very difficult time for them. Our teams work with patients to make this experience more manageable and to minimise the risk of readmission. This service supports people aged 18 who are leaving hospital after a stay. Older people are highly represented in this client group.

We are looking to recruit an experienced person-centred leader who is passionate about delivering services that make a difference to people’s lives. You will have responsibility of maintaining a high level of service delivery with impressive outcomes. You will lead a team of staff with oversight of each service area, will be highly organised, able to make decisions and use your initiative. The role will also involve monitoring service processes, systems, and workforce capacity to enable us to identify areas for change and improvement.

The purpose of the role is to manage and deliver the day-to-day operation of the service. Operating across Buckinghamshire, our discharge staff are based at both Stoke Mandeville and Wexham Park hospitals. Our community team are based in the Age UK Buckinghamshire offices in Aylesbury but reach out to serve residents across the county. Additionally, a team of volunteers provide additional capacity and reach. The post holder will be based at the office in Aylesbury but will be expected to travel across the two hospital sites when required,

The hospital teams operate 7 days a week supporting patients on discharge. Over a year more than a thousand patients will be taken home by our teams and helped to settle in safely. The community team will support residents post discharge, liaising with any other services, offering practical support to settle in at home such as shopping, light housework or picking up prescriptions and offering a regular call to ensure all is well.

The purpose of the role is to provide leadership of fundraising, partnership development, marketing and communications functions to drive the growth of the charity’s income.

Strategic Leadership

1. To demonstrate a commitment to our vision, mission, goals and values.

2. To contribute to a people first culture which values inclusion and celebrates diversity.

3. To be an active member of the senior leadership team working with colleagues to achieve strategic goals.

4. To lead the development and delivery of a growth plan which tells our story and powers our work.

5. To be an ambassador for the Cardiff City FC Community Foundation with a strong external focus.

Operational Management

6. To maximise income across the income spectrum including trusts and foundations, corporate fundraising, consumer income and individual giving.

7. To build a strong pipeline of future opportunities with excellent forward planning.

8. To identify, cultivate and manage relationships with potential partners.

9. To coordinate stakeholder engagement activity.

10. To be the guardian of the Cardiff City FC Community Foundation brand.

11. To develop and deliver marketing and communication strategies.

12. To work with the Head of Finance & Resources to build, set and monitor budgets.

13. To provide leadership and management of the fundraising, marketing and communications team.

14. To be responsible for the analysis and evaluation of performance information, monitoring and reporting against outputs, outcomes and KPI’s.  

General

15. To understand and ensure compliance with the regulatory environment and ensure compliance.

16. To champion the highest standards of safeguarding, data protection and health and safety.

17. To meet deadlines agreed with line manager and key partners with regard to reporting of key performance indicators and other targets.

18. To effectively manage and develop strong positive relationships with beneficiaries, key partners and stakeholders.

19. To undertake any relevant training as required by line-manager or in line with expectations of the programme funder.

20. To attend and participate in meetings with Foundation staff, funding providers and other meetings as appropriate.

21. To exhibit and promote company values & behaviours.

22. Promote and celebrate equality, diversity & inclusion.

23. To out carry any additional work and duties that meet the needs of the business.

Key Relationships

Internal: All Foundation Staff and Trustees.

External: Cardiff City FC Directors and Senior Management, Premier League and Premier League Charitable Fund, EFL and EFL in the Community, Major Donors, Corporate Partners, Trusts and Foundations, Grant Making Bodies and other funders, Media, Welsh Government, Local Government any other external stakeholders that support and benefit the work of the Foundation.
