Job Title: Head of Grants 

Reports to: CEO

Salary: £45,000 - £47,000 pa (dependent on experience)

Location.  Remote, home-based work and occasional attendance in Edinburgh office.  
 

Contract.  This will be a full-time, 35-hours post, but we may consider part-time arrangements to start with.  Some flexibility will be required to attend events and meetings away from Edinburgh. 

Responsibilities.  Head of Grants will have the following responsibilities: 

• Provide the lead for the Grants’ Department in the VF, managing relevant staff to best effect and shaping the Grant-Making Policy to suit the VF’s objects.
• Provide high quality policy, communications and strategic advice to the CEO and Trustees. 
• Liaise with other organisations (eg Cobseo, AFCFT, OVA, other charities) to formulate policy and to enable smooth and effective operation of the VF’s Grant-Making Policy.
• Deliver the Grant-Making Policy approved by the Trustees.
• Suggest changes to the Grant-Making Policy to the Trustees when necessary, having identified impact and backed by research where possible.
• Ensure the quarterly and annual grant-making schedules are maintained, including arranging meetings and providing briefing packs for Trustees.
• Manage workloads to match staff employment contracts.
• Provide effective grant-making processes and identify improvements when necessary.
• Oversee the grant management aspects of Salesforce.
• Provide good coordination between the Grants Department and other departments in VF and with contractors.
• Promote the VF culture:  cheerful, efficient and engaging effectiveness.
• Lead and manage the grants’ communications strategy.
• Overseeing the measurement of the impact of VF grants.
• Other duties and responsibilities as appropriate to the post and requested by the CEO. 
   

Experience and Qualifications.  Candidates should possess the following experiences, qualifications and skills: 

Experience

• Proven experience and success in a relevant Third Sector grants’ management role.
• Good understanding and knowledge of the Armed Forces’ elements in the Third Sector.
• Experience of conducting due diligence into grantees.

• Understanding of business functions such as HR, finance and information security.

• Demonstrable competency in planning.

• Working knowledge of IT and comms systems, including Salesforces and MS 365.

• Excellent organisational and leadership abilities.

• Excellent interpersonal skills.

• Aptitude in decision-making and problem-solving.

About Us

The Veterans’ Foundation (VF) is an independent grant-making charitable foundation. It has established a substantial grants’ programme to support charities and organisations in the UK that provide charitable support to those in need among serving armed forces personnel, veterans, operationally qualified seafarers and their immediate families.  The charity has grown rapidly since inception in July 2016 and has to date (Oct 24) given away more than £25M to good causes and handed out around £1.6M to good causes each quarter for the past year. 

The VF supports a broad range of charities and organisations that deliver a wide variety of projects to members of the armed forces’ community including those that reduce homelessness, increase employment, provide welfare and medical support, increase confidence and social integration, as well as reducing dependence on alcohol and drugs.  The VF gives priority to charities and organisations who can demonstrate that they are directly involved in the provision of support to those in need, and that are well-run organisations of low to medium wealth while also recognising innovation.

Since inception, income has come mainly from the Veterans’ Lottery, however, individual and corporate donations have grown significantly, and we now have staff focusing on this too. 

The VF’s office is based in New Town in Edinburgh’s city centre.  The VF’s staff consists of 13 employees:  Chief Executive Officer, Chief Operating Officer, 2 x staff in Finance, 3 x staff in Grants and 5 x staff in Fundraising.  We now seek someone to fill a new post as Head of Grants.

You’ll play a big part in helping to achieve the Trust’s goals by:

· Supporting the Head of Communications to administer the external relations functions of the Trust;

· Focussing on digital communications;

· Raising awareness and improving understanding of our work with a wide range of stakeholders.

We are looking for a communications professional with experience of social policy or campaign projects, you will report to the Head of Communications and work closely with our Policy and Public Affairs function.

Digital comms will be your thing as you will be creating and producing digital content, and managing the Trust’s website and social media accounts. You’ll have a strong interest in all things media as you’ll support the press office function such as managing press lists, taking media enquiries and writing press statements and other copywriting.

You’ll work alongside a small team of seven who are based between London and Edinburgh and work in a hybrid manner. You should be someone who is highly motivated with a can-do attitude, and the ability to occasionally travel within the UK.

The role would particularly benefit an individual with communications/media relations and/or public relations particularly in the third sector or government.

About the role 

Are you passionate and knowledgeable about delivering training in AI and keen to apply your skills to lead a purpose-driven project? 

In partnership with the Centre for Public Impact with support from the Google AI Opportunity Fund, Media Trust is launching a pioneering new programme and we're looking for an experienced programme manager to lead on its delivery.

You will be empowering charities and under-represented creative talent, helping them gain AI skills to bridge the growing AI divide and prevent marginalised communities from being further excluded or disadvantaged. 

The programme will provide AI essentials training to two of Media Trust’s key beneficiary stakeholder groups: (i) small charities advocating for and supporting marginalised communities, and (ii) talent from under-represented backgrounds working, or aspiring to work, in the media and creative industries.

The programme is funded by Centre for Public Impact with support from the Google AI Opportunity Fund and we'll delivering free bespoke AI training developed by Google and external partners.

You will be responsible for designing the delivery calendar and managing the launch and delivery of this ambitious programme, which will run from January to December 2025. You will also manage the MEL (measurement, evaluation and learning) processes for the programme and produce a quarterly progress report for the programme funder.

You will provide insights and learning from the programme to help Media Trust design new AI-related and other digital skills training programmes for charities and/or creative talent from under-represented backgrounds.

Programme Management and Evaluation 

• Programme Management: Oversee the launch and delivery of this groundbreaking programme, ensuring all activity runs to schedule and on budget 

• Training Coordination: Plan, recruit and deliver training for 8 separate cohorts of c25 participants per cohort, coordinating with partner organisations, trainers and programme participants

• Participant Engagement: Recruit and engage programme participants, encourage participation and retention, support any accessibility needs and ensure the training aligns with participants’ needs and expectations 

• Training Content Development: Work closely with the trainers to create engaging, practical and tailored content, activities and resources to maximise learning 

• Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting: Manage the collection and analysis of programme data and insights, ensuring impact is evidenced with high-quality data and compelling case studies

• Budget Management: Manage the programme budget, providing accurate and up-to-date financial reporting

Partnerships: 

• Cultivate Relationships: Build and maintain meaningful relationships with charities and under-represented creative talent, creating collaboration opportunities 

• Networking: Represent Media Trust at third sector or media industry events to enhance our visibility and raise the profile of our work 

• Insights for New Programmes: Share latest trends and programme-related insights to help Media Trust secure new funders/partners for additional AI and digital skills training programmes for charities and/or creative talent from under-represented backgrounds

Marketing and Communications: 

• Programme Promotion/Recruitment: Work closely with the Marketing and Communications (MarComms) team to develop compelling promotional copy tailored to each target cohort

What we are looking for in you 

Essential Skills: 

• At least five years' experience of designing and delivering AI and digital skills training programmes, including facilitating workshops, training sessions and events

• Familiarity with AI and digital tools and a passion for staying informed and up to date with AI and digital trends.

• Proven skills in managing both in-person and online events, including participant and trainer coordination and logistics management

• Strong written, verbal and interpersonal skills; able to produce engaging and clear content for different audiences and communication channels

• Strong organisational skills, with the capacity to plan, prioritise, and manage multiple workstreams and deadlines effectively 

• Experience of effective budget management 

• Experienced in data analysis, monitoring and evaluation to support the assessment and communication of impact

At Bipolar UK we are passionate about improving understanding of mental health and empowering people affected by bipolar to lead their best lives.

Every month we empower 1,000 people to stay well and we plan to support many more. A leading cultural, social change organisation is looking for two Fellowship Growth and Partnerships Officers.

Location: London. Hybrid working (3 days office-based)

Salary: £30,000 – £32,000

As Fellowship Growth and Partnerships Officer you will be responsible for delivering the growth and development of the organisations network of over 31,000 Fellows in line with the overarching operational strategy. This involves promoting Fellowship internally and externally through events, presentations, responding to enquiries effectively, generating leads, and delivering digital recruitment campaigns.

One Fellowship Officer will focus on recruitment through internal and external events. The other will focus on communications and recruitment campaigns.

Key responsibilities include:

• Achieving individual and team recruitment targets by recruiting on a rolling basis suitable individuals for Fellowship.
• Leading on specific recruitment sources to bring in new Fellows, particularly through internal and external events, other engagement opportunities, and digital recruitment campaigns.
• Acting as a point of contact for prospective Fellows, being able to outline in a compelling and confident manner the value of the organisation’s Fellowship to different audiences (including by emails, phone calls, face to face or virtual meetings).
• Managing and delivering webinars and events for those interested in hearing more about the Fellowship, to convince them to join.
• Using the CRM system (Salesforce) and reporting software (Power-Bi) to track and monitor Fellowship recruitment, drawing on data to measure success of different approaches and make decisions about priorities.
• Working across multiple platforms (Salesforce, Eventbrite, Pardot, SharePoint) to coordinate Fellows and team administration, including keeping records up to date, running reports and ensuring a positive Fellowship.

The successful candidate will have experience in persuading others to take an action through one-to-one conversations and public speaking, whether in sales, marketing, campaigns or another capacity and will be comfortable working to targets, particularly relating to growth or income. Excellent networking skills and the ability to engage new people effectively at events is crucial, as is the ability to think creatively and be able to spot and take advantage of opportunities. Finally, you must have strong data inputting skills and confidence with a  broad range of IT systems/the ability to quickly pick up new systems and technology.

The postholder will responsible for the project management of and writing copy for individual giving and legacy fundraising campaigns, and donor stewardship communications, via email, web, social media, and/or direct mail. 

About the Candidate

You will be able to demonstrate an entrepreneurial approach to identifying new opportunities and developing ideas. You will also be able to demonstrate the ability to project manage fundraising campaigns and build personal relationships with alumni donors. You will be skilled in writing engaging fundraising copy for email, web and print. Ideally you will have experience of individual giving and/or legacy fundraising from the Higher Education or Not for Profit sector. However transferrable skills from exceptional candidates looking to move into the Higher Education sector are also welcomed.

The Sutton Trust are currently recruiting for two Interns within the programmes team. One will focus on supporting our Employability programmes including our Pathways to the professions programmes and our Alumni Careers Plus programmes which includes two new strands of the programme in Tech and Consulting launching in 2025. The Programmes Interns will play an integral part in the team to help deliver on these initiatives and the long-term aims of the organisation. The roles are varied and will support student communication and delivery across our school age (16-18) programmes and university (post 18) activities for alumni. This is an extremely exciting time to be at the Trust and the roles will require individuals to be creative, flexible and to adapt to a fast-paced environment.

Main duties

• Manage student logistics including booking travel, reimbursements and accommodation across a range of programmes.
• Responding to multiple student-facing email inboxes to ensure timely and effective communication with beneficiaries.
• Being the first point of contact on the Sutton Trust main phone line, answering questions from a range of stakeholders
• Being a main point of contact for students around activity attendance, eg following up with students who haven’t attended
• Assisting with planning and delivery of a range of in person events eg, residential conferences for students on Pathways programmes, employability events for Sutton Trust alumni and online webinars
• Updating content on Sutton Trusts website, digital student platforms (Sutton Trust Online and Sutton Trust Alumni) and materials needed for programme delivery
• Updating appropriate databases, for example on student information or university details to ensure this is accurate
• Liaising with external stakeholders such as universities and employers to support logistical and administrative elements of programme delivery

Person Specification

Our unique Online Reading Volunteer programme currently supports about 3,000 children a year. It pairs disadvantaged, struggling five to eight-year old readers with reading support volunteers who come from over 140 local and national businesses. About the role

We’re looking for a motivated, communicative, and knowledgeable Public Affairs Officer to join our Policy and Influencing Team, to help us achieve the positive change children and young people with cancer across the UK, and their families, need in the health system. This means amplifying the voices of young cancer patients and delivering evidence-based campaigns that make change happen.

The Public Affairs Officer is responsible for supporting the Policy and Influencing Team with public affairs expertise to deliver the key components of our influencing work in England and UK-Wide (Westminster). You will help us influence the system for children and young people with cancer and their families, so we can change experiences of having cancer and ensure children and young people’s voices are heard.
