Refugee Action Kingston (RAK) is an independent charity dedicated to helping the successful integration of refugees and people seeking asylum into the local community. With over three decades of experience, we provide a holistic service which includes advice on welfare, benefits, and immigration, alongside education, counselling, and career guidance.

In 2023/24 we supported 2,036 people:

• 1,171 clients accessed advice and advocacy services, including immigration advice
• 305 accessed ESOL classes
• 250 children supported through after school and family support services
• 61 people supported through our counselling service

This is an exciting time to join RAK at the start of the new fundraising strategy for 2024-2028. RAK currently has a successful grant fundraising programme through a selection of statutory bodies, trusts and foundations, and recognises the need - and opportunity - to broaden and diversify its income generation streams. We are looking for a fundraiser to build on existing strengths within the organisation to broaden our income stream through corporate support, individual giving, major donors and social media fundraising campaigns alongside maintaining and developing our trusts and foundations funding. 

Our new Director, Elli Free, has 25 years’ experience supporting people seeking asylum and substantial fundraising experience. Elli is looking forward to working collaboratively with the new Fundraising Manager to ensure RAK sustains its work in Kingston and reaches into neighbouring boroughs.

Purpose of the role

As Fundraising Manager, you will lead the fundraising functions of the charity to generate income, meet organisational targets, and ensure development opportunities are effectively maximised. Working with the Director and programme teams, you will develop and write competitive bids, growing capacity and securing income for 24/25 and beyond. We are focused on multi-year bids and opportunities that deliver the best outcomes for our client community. As a client-led organisation, we strive to meet the needs of our clients and deliver impact-focused programmes.

The Fundraising Manager will have proven experience of successful grant writing and demonstrate a track record of fundraising achievements across multiple income streams.

Main areas of accountability

Fundraising - general

• Writing and submitting bids, tenders and proposals to ensure income targets are met in line with performance objectives
• Responsibility for the development and the implementation of RAK’s fundraising strategy, in line with organisational strategy and resources
• Providing stewardship to existing donors and supporters to maximise income and ensure long-term funding relationships
• Contributing to the monitoring and evaluation of the impact of the services provided at RAK

Trusts and Foundations, Statutory Funding

• Securing regular income by producing and submitting appealing fundraising applications to trusts and foundations as well as statutory funding
• Researching, monitoring, and identifying new funding opportunities for the development of existing or new services and organisational capacity
• Reporting to funders in line with funding criteria, objectives and the specified outcomes conditional to the funding

Individual Giving

• Ensuring that donations are acknowledged in an appropriate and timely manner in line with the stewardship policy
• Managing the charity’s supporter database and online donations
• Developing an excellent supporters’ journey via digital means and channels
• Preparing appealing fundraising campaigns and cases for support to the general public
• Working with the Partnership and Digital Marketing Co-ordinator to maximise income from social media channels and other digital channels
• Keeping up to date with professional best practice and recent trends, identifying developments that impact the organisation, and sharing knowledge appropriately across teams and departments

Corporate Giving

• Leading the expansion of RAK’s corporate giving initiatives, identifying and developing opportunities for engagement, and achieving the corporate income target
• Managing the Partnership and Digital Marketing Coordinator, whose primary focus is on corporate giving

General Duties

• Undertaking any other related duties as required and appropriate to the role.

Person specification

We are looking for a candidate who can demonstrate the following skills and experience:

Essential

• Significant fundraising successes, preferably across different income streams
• Persuasive written and spoken communication skills

We are seeking an experienced project manager with a genuine passion and knowledge about nature and climate to lead and deliver our new WASH project.

Norton Hall is a small, but growing charity with a vibrant team based in and working with the community of Wash wood Heath, in East Birmingham.  The WASH will be based at our Dolphin Women’s Centre in Ward End Park; a much valued, Green Flag accredited 54-acre public space with a Lake and the Wash Brook. 

Thanks to National Lottery players, Norton Hall has received a five-year grant from The National Lottery Community Fund.   

The funding will be used to engage our local community in nature and climate learning activities, connecting them with the rural environment, increasing their connection to their surroundings and encouraging them to understand what it means to them.  Shaped by volunteers, service users and partners, the WASH aims to see improvements in everyday lives, including food and growing skills, career opportunities, improved mental and physical health, and confidence building.

To succeed in this role, your extensive project and people management experience will ideally be rooted in environmental work and co-ordinating large-scale projects.  Your interpersonal and leadership skills will enable you to develop excellent relationships with your team, partners and wider stakeholders.

You will be a self-motivated individual, who’s organisational and time management skills will keep the WASH team on track to meet milestones and ensure the project achieves its vision and objectives.

Key responsibilities

– Provide administrative support across the organisation and supporting the smooth running of the office including those staff working remotely.

– Work with colleagues to make improvements to administrative systems, taking the lead on implementing changes where appropriate.

– Ensure that Trustee meeting, Sub-Committees meeting, executive meetings and the AGM, are fully serviced, including preparation of agendas, circulation of papers, and preparation of minutes.

– Providing support to recruitment, including liaising with potential candidates, setting up interviews and induction schedules for new staff and ensuring that staff records and renewable documents on HR Partner are up to date.

– Ensure the smooth running of our office, including maintaining office supplies, liaising with the landlord, facilities and utilises service providers.

The UWC International Office serves as the operational arm of UWC International, a UK-registered and Germany-registered charity, and stands as a pivotal entity within the UWC movement. Positioned in central London and Berlin, it collaborates extensively with stakeholders across the UWC spectrum, actively engages a robust alumni community comprising more than 60,000 members, and fulfils essential functions for UWC International's governance bodies. We have been at the forefront of adoption services for over 60 years, working with local authorities across the country.  With our outstanding rating with Ofsted, we work with a high degree of flexibility and innovation and with a range of adopters from all backgrounds and provide a range of Adoption Support services to families to support them on their adoption journey. 

We are delighted to have secured funding to set up and establish a robust impact and data collection process and database so that clear outcomes can be measured and collected for the different areas within our adoption support services. This is a new role and the postholder will play a key part in delivering on this work.

Working alongside Adoption Support colleagues, the Database Officer will be responsible for maintaining the accuracy of the database, ensuring data is kept up to date as well as inputting, monitoring and evaluating data and service user details.  They will also contribute to the collection of feedback and case studies from service users.

The Database Officer will produce comprehensive and tailored reports using both qualitative and quantitative data, derived from the new monitoring and evaluation system.  These evidence-based reports are produced for a variety of audiences and will contribute to evidencing the effectiveness of PACT’s adoption support services.

We are looking for someone with previous experience in an administrative support role, with database and/or data capture administration experience.  To succeed in this role, you will be proficient in producing reports from a database with a keen eye for accuracy and detail and have strong data analysis skills with an ability to derive meaningful insights.

JOB PURPOSE

About the Role

The Finance & Administration Assistant is a newly created role that will provide various parts of the organisation with administrative support, as well as some receptionist duties. This dynamic role will sit within the Finance team and report to the Director of Finance, however it will directly support the areas of Administration, Finance, Fundraising, and three different Service Delivery functions.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Administrative tasks

• Manage external communications through post, telephone and email, ensuring information is redirected to the relevant person to be dealt with efficiently and effectively.
• Support service/department managers with necessary purchasing.
•  Keep up to date record of monthly invoicing information for services and liaise between the Senior Finance Officer and the Service Managers to ensure this system is running efficiently and effectively.

Finance related tasks

•  Manage Petty Cash transactions on site, ensuring accurate and up to date records are kept at all times, and perform the bank runs.
• Collect and check monthly debit card and credit card reports with all necessary Purchase Invoices and PO’s from the card holders.
•  Assist the Finance Officer in processing expenditure: checking Purchase Invoices against PO’s, ensuring that all authorisations are in place, and posting expenditure on the QuickBooks database.
• Assist the Senior Finance Officer in sending out statements to overdue Debtors from QuickBooks.

Fundraising related tasks

• Process donation payments received via cheque, cash or PayPal and similar platforms onto the Beacon database.
•  Assist the Fundraising Manager in keeping the Beacon database up to date with donations/grants received, gift aid eligibility and forms, and grant contracts.
• Instigate periodic thank-you letters to donors.
