About the role
The Communication and Marketing Officer is key to delivering a range of marketing communications for Help Musicians and Music Minds Matter, ensuring our website, stories, print and digital content is clear, up-to-date and on-brand.
With a proven track record in strong copywriting, the person in this role creates and develops content (written, video and graphic) in-line with annual plans, bringing to life our charities’ impact, stories and support. This will include writing, evolving and maintaining interesting copy on our webpages and developing the storytelling in our digital content, long form and social copy to drive engagement.
Working collaboratively with teams across the organisation, the post holder is able to deliver on content goals and repurpose content to create a stream of engaging outputs for a breadth of audiences (e.g. donors and those seeking our support).
Through impactful copywriting and storytelling, they bring to life our brands and amplify the wider communications of the organisation.
About you
You will have excellent copy writing skills, understanding how to use language to connect with an audience. You will have a natural curiosity for human interest stories with some interviewing experience. A keen eye for detail is very important but the ideal candidate will also have a willingness to ask questions and continuously learn.
Soft skills are key to this role so being personable, emotionally intelligent and able to conduct discussions around sensitive issues with compassion and discretion are vital.
A creative thinker who is able to turn ideas into content to bring our stories, research and key messages to life.
It is desirable for you to have experience using Canva or Adobe suite (including Premiere Pro, Photoshop, InDesign) helping to support on the breadth of communications and marketing delivery.

The Policy Communications Officer will assist in increasing the visibility of Alzheimer’s Research UK (ARUK) to external audiences, with a particular focus on influencing key political stakeholders, such as the next UK government, to support policy change.
The Policy Communications team sits within the Communications Department but works closely and collaboratively with the Policy and Public Affairs Department to maximise the success and influence of their work by gaining cut-through with key audiences and inspiring positive, urgent action. This is a varied role, covering areas across diagnosis, treatment and prevention. The postholder will also assist with efforts to shape public health policy around dementia, including dementia risk reduction and brain health messaging.
The postholder will develop engaging and compelling content for a range of communications channels, with the aim of developing the charity’s voice as an expert commentator on dementia policy and establishing the charity as a thought leader in the UK.
Main duties and responsibilities of the role:
· Working with the Policy Communications Manager to lead on the creation and delivery of communications and content to support ARUK's policy and public affairs activity, working through multiple channels including national media, newsletters, website content and social media.
· Develop effective relationships with ARUK’s Communications Department, Policy & Public Affairs Department, and with external stakeholders and partners, in order to identify and deliver on communications needs.
· Help find, develop and pitch news stories, press releases, thought leadership pieces and other content to national press on ARUK’s policy and public affairs activity, bringing the charity’s expertise and key messages to the forefront.
· Support the running of ARUK’s press office by co-ordinating responses to breaking news stories relating to relevant dementia policy developments, including drafting reactive comments, briefing spokespeople and accompanying spokespeople to interviews when appropriate.
· Monitor relevant media coverage; keep up to date with policy, social, scientific and charitable sector issues which could benefit, or have relevance to, ARUK.
· Assist with the organisation and delivery of events, including ARUK’s research conference and events in parliament.
· Develop effective working relationships with relevant members of the media, government and NHS communications contacts; respond promptly to queries, including occasional out-of-hours queries.
· Work with the Public Affairs team to build on existing relationships with ARUK’s campaigners and parliamentary advocates, developing engaging content to strengthen our communications with these groups.
· Work with the Internal Communications team to create and disseminate materials to support staff across the organisation in engaging their stakeholders and the wider public with ARUK's policy and public affairs work, including toolkits and Q&As.
· Liaise with the Social Media team to develop compelling content in support of the charity’s policy and public affairs work.
· Ensure activities comply with ARUK’s branding and style guide.
· Undertake any other relevant duties and projects delegated by the Policy Communications Manager in line with the responsibilities of the post.
What we are looking for:
· Educated to degree level in related subject or equivalent level of experience.
· Experience of working with national media on health/science or policy issues.
· Experience of working with external stakeholders and partners.
· Experience of delivering communications programmes through a variety of media (e.g. press, social media, email, events).
· Confidence working with computers; knowledge of Microsoft office packages and databases, good keyboard skills.
· Understanding of the UK political landscape, its potential impact on health policy and the role communication plays in policy change.
· Excellent journalistic skills and news sense.
· Ability to understand and translate complex policy into consumable communications for journalists and the public.
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a high standard of accuracy and attention to detail.
· Excellent organisational skills; the ability to manage many tasks with internal and external stakeholders to multiple deadlines.
· Ability to communicate appropriately and effectively with a broad range of people, including journalists, policymakers, representatives from partner organisations, and people affected by dementia.
· A confident and friendly manner; would feel at ease representing the charity to a range of audiences.
· Working with independence, intelligence, drive and initiative.
· Willingness and ability to travel independently in the UK and to work outside of regular office hours when needed.
Additional Information:
Ways of working: As part of our Agile ways of working you will be required to work approximately 2 days a week from the office, which is subject to the requirements of the role and the business needs. Flexibility on where you work can be split between working from home and our office.

The Role

About the Team:
The Resilient Water Accelerator (RWA), hosted by WaterAid, is global initiative that aims to:
- Address the climate impacts on water to strengthen resilience in vulnerable communities;
- Secure greater investment from public and private sources in water infrastructure and services;
- Ensure this work can be replicated and scaled to increase long term water security.
To achieve this we will work with policy makers, experts, investors and communities to identify critical climate risks to water and shape a business case for priority projects. We will work to ensure these projects act as positive examples of a new approach to programme development in the water and climate sectors. About the Role:
As Communication and Advocacy Manager you will help to draw links between our work in country and the much needed action on international finance for climate resilience. You will be ready to engage strategically with influential governments and organisations to influence their policies and practices as they relate to water.
As a leader on communications you will be a critical part of the RWA’s global team — helping to link the different parts of the RWA together and co-ordinate with our partners around the world. You will ensure the team has a line of sight to the relevant policies and initiatives affecting the RWA’s work, and that there is clear, consistent and compelling messaging of the Accelerator through different communications channels. They will bring a fresh and inventive approach lead the communication of that thought leadership with key stakeholders. You will lead internal communications with WaterAid and the Steering Committee and work with colleagues across WaterAid’s network to build awareness of the Accelerator’s work. This will be vital to amplifying our messaging around global water security and climate adaptation. As this work is in its early stages, a flexible approach to the team’s work will be helpful, adjusting to changing priorities and progress on the ground.
The position will be hosted by WaterAid, which has been acting as the Accelerator’s interim host until an agreement with a long-term host has been finalized.
The successful candidate will:
- Take the lead on development and delivery of the Accelerator’s communications and advocacy strategy as a key measureable output
- Initiate the creation of an advocacy “campaign” to ensure awareness of the RWA its objectives – drawing on our work.

The Global Legal Action Network (GLAN) works with affected communities to pursue innovative legal actions across borders to challenge states and other powerful actors involved in human rights violations and systemic injustice. Our actions address the most pressing instances of human rights concern and they fall within the following themes: War and occupation; accountability and supply chains; environmental and economic justice; and migration and border violence.
Since our establishment in 2016, we have developed legal strategies directly addressing human rights impacts in over 23 countries and territories. Our cases include the successful legal challenge against imports of cotton produced with forced labour in Xinjiang (East Turkistan) into the UK on behalf of World Uyghur Congress and the climate case against 32 European States before the Grand Chamber of the European Court of Human Rights, brought on behalf of six Portuguese youth-applicants.
More recently, we have supported the preeminent Palestinian human rights organisation Al Haq, to rapidly challenge UK weapons exports to Israel due to the risk of these arms being used in violations of international law.
