This is a pivotal role within our charity, leading the finance and operations teams and supporting the Charity’s strategic direction. Reporting directly to our CEO, the Director of Finance & Operations is responsible for overseeing our finances and core services, including HR and IT, and acting as Company Secretary. You will work closely with the Senior Leadership Team, Board of Trustees, and external stakeholders to ensure the charity is well-run, financially resilient, and operationally effective.

Key Responsibilities:

• Strategic Oversight: Develop and execute strategies for Finance & Operations to ensure the charity’s assets and infrastructure provide maximum impact for beneficiaries.

• Senior Leadership Contribution: Play an active role as a member of the Senior Leadership Team, providing collective leadership, contributing to strategic decision-making, and supporting the CEO in leading the organisation.

• Financial Management: Lead the finance function, overseeing budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and statutory accounts for an annual income of around £11m.

• Governance: Act as Company Secretary, supporting the Board of Trustees and ensuring compliance with corporate governance requirements.

• Investments: Monitor and report on the charity’s investments, working closely with investment advisors and providing strategic recommendations (strategic reserves of £130m+).

• Operational Oversight: Lead the development of a technology strategy, ensuring IT infrastructure via our outsourced provider supports the charity’s needs and enhances user experience.

• People & Culture: Collaborate with our HR Business Partner to develop a People Strategy that fosters a culture of ambition, agility, and continuous learning, whilst ensuring operational HR support and systems are effective.

A summary of what we’re looking for:

• A fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CCAB, or CIMA) with significant experience in leading finance functions, ideally within the not-for-profit sector.

• Proven track record of managing financial and operational teams, with expertise in charity governance and accounting, investments, and strategic planning.

• Excellent leadership skills with the ability to inspire teams and work collaboratively with senior stakeholders.

• Strong analytical skills, with the ability to synthesise complex data to inform decision-making.

• A deep understanding of compliance, risk management, and regulatory requirements within the charity sector. 

The ideal candidate will have experience within a charity finance & operational role, with the corresponding knowledge and understanding of investment oversight, charity governance, and the HR & IT functions. An understanding of the healthcare context is also beneficial.

Main duties & Responsibilities

Securing New Corporate Partnership Business

·To support in the creation of a new corporate fundraising strategy and subsequently implement this

·Develop resources, pitch decks and communications to attract new partnerships

·Identify, research and approach a pipeline of potential corporate partners, including those with existing links to employees, volunteers, trustees and members.

·Confidently pitch and write proposals to potential corporate partners, tailoring style and approach according to their Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) priorities

Corporate Partnership Account Management

Job title: Senior Data and Innovation Manager

Location: Hybrid work with 40% from Breaking Barriers’ offices in London, Manchester or Birmingham

Overall purpose

Reporting to the Director of Finance and Operations initially, the role holder will have technical leadership and overall responsibility for managing the Data and Innovation team. This team helps Breaking Barriers maximise the value of its data, by conducting analysis and managing the CRM (Salesforce) and related software.

The team works across all areas of the organisation to improve processes, unlock efficiencies through automation and generate insights from data. They ensure that data is utilised to inform any innovations or refinements to our services.

The successful candidate will be an entrepreneurial manager with a high level of data literacy. We are looking for someone strategic, highly organised and a strong people and team manager. They will be confident at communicating data in a variety of ways to a large range of audiences, identifying key take-aways and the broader implications of the findings on our clients and programming. They will also be able to train others in key data analysis and communication skills.

A small, well-established London-based not for profit membership body is seeking a Finance Manager for a full-time permanent role. The salary is £47,867 - £50,813 per annum, with the organisation usually looking to appoint at the entry level point on the salary scale.

Reporting to a Finance Director and managing a Finance Officer, the role is largely a business-as-usual finance role covering management accounts preparation, managing budgets with department heads, bank reconciliations & transactional finance and leading on all aspects of accounting for 2 very small related charitable entities.

The role would best suit a candidate experienced at Finance Manager level, with prior experience in a small charity or small membership body.

Duties include: 

• Prepare draft management accounts for the main body and one of the small related charitable entities ensuring that they comply with accounting standards.
• Contribute to the preparation of the annual budget.
• Assist with the audit and lead on the audit for one of the small related charitable entities.

• Prepare reports for budget holders summarising spend in their area.
• Prepare monthly accruals and prepayments and manage all monthly reconciliations.
• Record investment transactions for the main organisation and the 2 related charitable entities.

• Record all credit card transactions and produce the annual HMRC calculations for compliance with PAYE Settlement Agreement.
• Work with staff at 1 of the related entities to process sales, purchase and nominal ledger transactions for that organisation, along with supporting with other areas of transactional finance.
• Oversee accounting entries for the second related entity and ensure balance sheet reconciles
• Lead on the implementation of online expenses and credit card systems
• Line manage the work of the Finance Officer.

Candidate requirements:

• Graduate level education and at least a part-qualified accountant (ACA, ACMA or ACCA)
• Sound knowledge of management accounting and budgeting principles and methodology
• Ability to and experience of independently preparing draft accounts to management accounts level
• The ability to present Management Information in a visual and easy to understand way to a variety of stakeholders
• Experience of Sage accounts package, including the interface with Excel, and of CRM systems (desirable not essential)
• Experience of maximising the benefits of technology to present management information
• Knowledge of online expenses and credit card systems
• Good interpersonal skills and ability to work both individually and as part of a team

Responsibilities:

The Partnerships Coordinator will work closely with the Partnerships & Communications Lead and share some responsibilities. You duties will include: 

• Grant Writing: Write compelling grant applications, funding proposals, and update reports to secure funding from various sources, including trusts, liveries, and corporate foundations.

• Research: Identify and research a pipeline of realistic funding opportunities. 

• Donor Relations: Develop and maintain strong relationships with existing donors and prospects, ensuring their continued support and engagement with EFA's work.

• Fundraising Strategy: Contribute to the development and implementation of EFA's fundraising strategy. Support on diversifying our income streams, focusing on other areas of fundraising such as statutory, corporate giving, individual giving, membership, and events. 

• Collaboration: Liaise closely with the Partnerships and Communications Lead, Hub Leads and Project Managers to plan and develop strong funding proposals that align with EFA's strategic objectives. 

• Database Management: Maintain accurate records of donors, grants, and funding opportunities on Donorfy. Communicate effectively with the finance team.

• Monitoring and Evaluation: Help to monitor and evaluate the outputs and outcomes of our projects, and maintain accurate records of grant conditions.

About EFA

English for Action provides free, participatory, and empowering English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)  classes for migrants in London. Our classes are spaces to build community and support students to organise collectively around issues like employment and housing rights. Our work currently supports around 400 adult migrants across London. We’ve become a national centre of good practice for a radical participatory approach to ESOL, informed by the work of Paulo Freire, and we share this approach through training, research and partnerships. 

Organisation: We are a staff team of 8 people supported by a larger team of volunteers and 9 trustees. EFA promotes shared leadership and collaboration and we aim for our organisational structure to reflect this. In the last 4 years we’ve transitioned away from having a CEO to an executive team to oversee operations and decision-making. As a charity, ultimate responsibility for, and control of, the organisation lies with the Board of Trustees. 

Fundraising at EFA: We have one permanent fundraiser at EFA, who works two days per week on this area of work. The majority of EFA’s funding comes from charitable trusts and foundations but we are also funded directly by some of our partner institutions to provide courses for their members. We receive some local authority/EU funding as well. We raise additional funds through individual giving, corporate relationships and earned income. We are keen to explore new areas of fundraising and/or develop some of our less well established income streams.

The Programme Manager role

You will account manage skills and employability programmes designed in partnership with industry. You will work collaboratively with our corporate and industry partners to support teachers and students in schools and further education institutions access a range of TTF educational programmes.

*Hybrid working

This is a hybrid role. You will be working from home and join Team Together Days in a co-working space in London 2-3 individual days each month. These days are considered commuting days. You do not need to live in London to apply for this role, but you should consider what you feel is a reasonable commuting distance for the team days in London and visiting partner offices (of which the majority are in London).

We seek an experienced, hands-on and strategic Head of Finance to build and lead Global Dialogue’s finance function, ensuring efficient and compliant management of our finances, while helping to shape robust and effective systems and processes to ensure our work is delivered to the highest standards of good practice in the charity sector.

Hours: This role is full-time (35 hours/week) although we’d be happy to discuss an appointment at 80% (28 hours/week). We are open to negotiating a working pattern that works for the successful candidate and for Global Dialogue.

Salary: This role has been benchmarked at a UK salary of £67,000 (pro rata for a part-time position).

Overview

To date, Global Dialogue’s finances has been overseen by an external accountancy firm. Over the last eighteen months, we have been working towards bringing our finance function in house. This role presents an exciting opportunity for an experienced accountant to take the reins and complete the development and roll out of our internal finance function.

The Head of Finance is a new role within the organisation that is both strategic and handson. In the first phase, the postholder will be required to roll up their sleeves and, with the support of Global Dialogue’s Finance Officer, get stuck into the detail of financial administration, including overseeing twice monthly pay runs, monthly and quarterly closes, and other day-to-day financial management tasks. Alongside this, the role will lead on bringing the finance function fully in house, eventually taking on full responsibility for the preparation of management and statutory accounts, cashflow and FX management, and budgeting and forecasting processes. This role will play a key coaching role for the Finance Officer, with a view to eventually delegating all bookkeeping tasks. The postholder will also be responsible for ensuring finance systems are innovative, robust and fit for purpose, and will be a business partner to our hosted programmes, providing advice on compliance and strategic matters.

Global Dialogue’s role as an international fiscal host means that we have a complex financial model, receive income from diverse streams and manage a high number of restricted funds. Our programmes lead cutting edge work, which means that our work is varied and fastpaced, requiring frequent innovation. Overall, this role provides an exciting opportunity to join a growing human rights organisation at a crucial juncture in our journey.
