Position Overview

Working closely with the Board and CEO, the Chair will guide the AOI's strategic direction while ensuring robust governance and sustainable growth.

Key Details:

•Reports to: Board of Directors

•Direct report: Chief Executive Officer

•Location: Somerset House, Central London 

•Time commitment: Quarterly board meetings (2 hours each) plus approximately 16 hours monthly for strategic consultation

Remuneration:

£11,000 - £13,000 per annum, comprising of:

•£1,000 PAYE stipend for governance duties

•Up to £12,000 annually in consultancy fees for strategic advisory work

I am delighted to be working with a health-based charity in a vital role within the governance team. I am currently recruiting for a Head of Risk and Assurance on a 6-month temp contract, paying circa £600-£650/day. This role is largely remote, with occasional travel requirements. Your new role
The successful candidate will be:

• Leading People and Teams: Managing a team of 5, providing mentorship and support to ensure high performance and adherence to compliance standards.
• Risk Management: Designing policies and compliance plans, guiding and educating the management and workforce on compliance matters, and updating knowledge on regulatory changes.
• Business Continuity: Developing and overseeing control systems to deal with or prevent violations of legal guidelines, regulators, and internal policies. Evaluating the efficiency of controls and continuously improving them.
• CoSec Administration: Supporting the director in ensuring Directors are listed on Companies House and the Charity Commission.
• Risk Registers: Monitoring and managing risk registers, including operational risk registers and appetite.

What you'll need to succeed
This position is suitable for someone who:

• Has a Risk Management and Internal Audit Certification.
• Proven experience of line managing a small team.
• Has worked in the charity sector and/or public sector.
• Proven experience in Risk Management, Assurance and Compliance
• Is experienced of working with the most senior officials in a large organisation.
• Can build trust and credibility with senior stakeholders and manage relationships (and build influence) with a range of junior and senior internal and external stakeholders.
• Has proven ability in long-term planning, aligned to strategic goals, delivering key outcomes and results.
• Is experienced in governance, governance legislation, and governance best practices (desirable).

About the role

As Communications Adviser, you will shape and lead SUN CSN's communications and member engagement strategy — from amplifying community voices to showcasing change-makers across the nutrition sector. You will produce innovative multimedia content, manage digital channels, oversee newsletters and social media, and maintain our website as a go-to hub for news and resources.

In this pivotal role, you'll also collaborate with global partners from within and outside the SUN Movement, manage communications projects, and support the launch of our new SUN CSN Strategy 4.0 (2026–2030). Some international travel may be required to capture stories firsthand. You will also be working with people from different backgrounds who speak other languages so mastering French and Spanish, as well as AI-generated translation tools, would be important in this role.

The School:

Merchant Taylors’ School is a large Independent Boys’ School, situated in 280 acres of parkland in Northwood, Middlesex.  The School was founded in 1561, is owned by the Merchant Taylors’ Educational Trust and moved to its present site in 1933. There are four distinct boys’ day schools on campus. The Nursery, the Pre-Prep & the Prep cater for 370 boys, while the Senior School has over 960 pupils. Main duties and responsibilities:

Fundraising

· Developing and innovating the school’s regular giving programme, the Merchant Taylors’ Fund, to ensure a consistent income stream and increased participation from alumni, parents and friends.

· In conjunction with external consultants, running our (currently) biennial telephone fundraising campaigns and Giving Days.

· Liaising with school departments, clubs and societies to identify exciting projects to motivate supporters.

· Segmenting and targeting recipients for appeals to ensure the greatest impact and returns.

· Devising the strategy for promoting legacy giving as a means of supporting Merchant Taylors’, and to implement this strategy to increase the number of known legacy pledges to the school.

 Stewardship

· Establishing and running a comprehensive benefactor stewardship programme that thanks and stewards donors at all levels, including legacy pledges, through regular communication and events.

Reporting

· Reporting on progress against all objectives to the Development and Alumni Relations Sub-Committee of Governors.

· Where appropriate, working with the Development Executive (Events and Communications), to produce benefactor report publications and contribute to other Development publications.

· Ensuring that all contact with OMTs and parents is recorded on the Development Office’s database, the Raiser’s Edge.

The Role
Support a broad range of fundraising efforts across high value, individuals and special events.

Support the Corporate Partnerships Manager in providing excellent stewardship and account management to existing partners.

The Candidate
Fundraising experience in any high value stream or individual giving / appeals capacity with the ability to manage relationships with a diverse range of people.

Experience of developing business plans and budgets, producing reports on progress and against objectives and financial targets.

Excellent written and communication skills.

The 2021 Census shows that around 36% of Camden’s households are now made up of private renters, and in the Haverstock and Primrose Hill wards, where this project will operate, it’s 27% and 35% respectively. This group of residents is often unaware of what services are out there to help them, where they are located, and how they access them.

This new role has been created to outreach and engage with private renters in the 2 wards specified and it will also include information production, dissemination and project management work. The worker will set up the project and is the key person in ensuring the smooth delivery of it in line with its stated aims and objectives.

Please note: You will need to be based in/around London for this role as it involves work within specific locations in the London Borough of Camden and is not suitable for home working or long distance travelling.

Project management:

1. To plan and deliver the project to all agreed deadlines, milestones and targets

2. To manage the project budget in liaison with CFPT’s Assistant Organiser

1. To identify the information, support and other needs of private renters to enable them to effectively engage with their landlord and/or agent and other organisations

2. To help and support tenants to advocate on behalf of themselves, and when required, to advocate on their behalf with the landlord and/or agent regarding individual problems and issues.

Project sustainability:

1. To have an awareness any relevant developments (internal/external) which could impact on work of the project

2. To assist CFPT’s Organiser to identify and make applications to funders to ensure the long-term sustainability of the project, if this is required

My client is a world class research institute and university college. Top of the league for research, they are in the top four centres worldwide for their specialist research and treatment.

At present they are looking to appoint an interim Financial Analyst to provide maternity cover for the current post holder.

Key responsibilities:

• Prepare high quality financial and performance reporting on the business, ensuring the executive leadership team receives transparent and timely analysis.
• Support, develop and improve business intelligence reporting and insightful analysis.
• Produce the financial analysis required to prepare the income and expenditure notes for the statutory accounts.
• Manage and maintain the consolidated financial model required to produce the data for the Annual Financial Return.
• Provide support to improve the effectiveness of financial controls and processes across management information and planning.

In order to be successful in the role, we are looking for:

• A formally qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIPFA/CIMA) with demonstrable experience of financial analysis and data manipulation.
• Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret and model financial data objectively, delivering clarity and constructive challenge.
• Appetite for change and a continuous improvement mindset.

Experience of the charity and/or the higher education sector is desirable however we welcome applications from the wider public and private sectors.
