The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) is one of the most prestigious institutions of higher learning and research in the world. In November 2021, we launched the public phase of Shaping the World, our major £350 million philanthropy and engagement Campaign to underpin LSE 2030 goals and to help shape the world for good in the process. More than 80% of our Campaign goal has been raised so far and there is huge momentum building as we advance the public phase.

The Philanthropy and Global Engagement Division (PAGE) serves, engages and works in partnership with alumni and friends, staff and students, volunteers, donors, global partners, organisations and the wider community to further the strategic aims of the School. These reciprocal relationships increase engagement with LSE across the world and increase philanthropic income and strategic partnerships for agreed School priorities.

The Business and Office Manager is responsible for providing comprehensive business management for PAGE, covering business support and office management for the growing team of over 100 staff. The post holder will be responsible for facilitating the smooth running of the division, ensuring that internal operational needs are fulfilled, and that the office environment is welcoming and professional. The postholder will be required to quickly build effective working relationships with the central IT and Estates teams and ensuring that the division work within established LSE policies. This is an office-based role with the possibility of working one day a week from home, depending on business needs and only if agreed upon with the line manager.

· Experience of managing an office and/or facilities management in a large complex organization.

· Ability to innovate, be responsive, resourceful and resilient.

· Ability to resolve problems when an immediate solution is not apparent.

· Ability to plan and manage the office space ensuring all staff are appropriately accommodated during a period of change and growth.

This is a new role that follows a decision to focus our new organisational strategy for 2024-2027 on growing our external influence and that of our network of 47 community foundations across the UK.

External strategic communications 

Purpose: To enhance UKCF's communications, brand and external influence in order to engage and inspire key audiences, thereby supporting the effectiveness of our business development, grant programmes and strategic delivery. 

Key responsibilities: 

• Set out the strategic communications direction. You will play a crucial role in delivering our priorities of raising the profile of community foundations, promoting philanthropy and advocating on behalf of UK communities.

• Understand the most effective ways to influence within the context we work and resources available – being flexible and responsive to a rapidly changing environment and understanding the changing needs of our partners.

• Develop and oversee a cohesive and integrated strategic communications strategy and framework.

• Line management of the Communications and Marketing Manager, as well as any other staff or contractors that are recruited on a temporary or permanent basis. 

• Manage UKCF’s communication and marketing budget, continuously seeking ways to improve efficiency and impact of investment. 

• Support a culture of continuous learning across UKCF, building confidence and skills in the team to effectively communicate our messages on external channels and to our members. 

• Contribute to the successful delivery of key events including biannual conferences, webinars and in-person policy and learning events, supporting the work of our Membership Team and Senior Management Team to engage our network and funders. 

• Ensure a high-quality delivery and consistency of communications and brand, reviewing and building out our brand resources for the UKCF team.

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Business Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of the CIC delivering the business support services which underpin the strategic growth of our organisation.

The Business Manager will be responsible for financial management, operational efficiency, HR, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations. This role requires a proactive individual with excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills.

Key Responsibilities:

Operational Management:

• Oversee daily operations, ensuring services are delivered efficiently and effectively

• Develop and implement operational policies and procedures to enhance service delivery and to comply with stakeholder contracts and agreements and  all relevant regulations and legal requirements.

• Oversee programme administration processes to ensure the efficient management of these areas

• Monitor and evaluate the performance of services and programmes with the Management Team. Coordinate the delivery of effective Management Information and analysis of Appeer operations for regular review by the CEO and Board

• Ensure all necessary IT software, hardware and resources across the organisation are implemented and managed well, securely and up-to-date.

Financial and Funding Management:

• Oversee financial reporting, including monthly management accounts, and ensure compliance with financial regulations with Financial Manager

• Support the Board of Directors and Finance Committee with financial reporting, analysis and financial and sustainability strategy development for the organisation with Financial Manager

• Identify and pursue funding opportunities, including grants, donations, and partnerships; manage funding relationships and grant monitoring and reporting with CEO and internal staff

• Manage external supplier contracts and relationships: ensuring contracts, insurances, subscriptions and rentals/hires are maintained to ensure continuity of cover/use and offer best value for the organisation

HR Management:

• Oversee the management of HR across the organisation, advising on the strategic recruitment, management and development of staff and volunteers

• Responsible for the coordination of recruitment, induction and training of new recruits

• Provide ‘business partner’ HR support to Line Managers

• Coordinate Appeer’s process of regular performance and reward reviews and coordinate a programme of ongoing training and development opportunities

• Ensure compliance with HR policies and employment legislation and that employment contracts and the Employee Handbook are kept under ongoing review

• Ensure best practice delivery of  employment practices in line with Appeer’s values

• Line manage the Admin Officer, Finance Manager and Designated Safeguarding Lead

Strategic Planning:

• Work with the CEO to develop and implement the Appeer CIC’s strategic plan

• As a member of the senior leadership team, support the CEO and board in organisational strategy development

• Identify opportunities for growth and development of services

• Foster relationships with key stakeholders, including clients, funders, community partners

Compliance and Risk Management:

• Ensure Appeer complies with all relevant regulations and legal requirements.  Manage risk, including health and safety, data protection, complaints and safeguarding. Communicate relevant policies and procedures to staff, families and service users (as appropriate)

• Work with the CEO/Engagement Manager to ensure that Appeer CIC fulfils its duties and responsibilities associated with internal and external contracts and agreements

• Act as Appeer’s Data Controller for GDPR purposes

• Maintain the organisation’s Risk Register and coordinate a formal quarterly review  and report to the CEO

• Maintain accurate records and ensure robust reporting mechanisms are in place

• Act as the channel of communication with Appeer’s insurers and, legal advisers when issues arise, keeping the CEO and Board informed as necessary

About APPEER

Appeer is a Community Interest Company (CIC) set up to deliver services that support autistic girls and women (and those assigned female at birth) to connect with peers, to develop their life/work skills and to support their wellbeing.   Over the past 5 years our founder and current CEO has taken the vision of creating a community where autistic girls and women can connect from a small, passionate team into a robust and impactful organisation.

We provide  In Person and Online Activity groups and programmes, Alternative Provision, events and resources for those in the community that we serve, their parents/carers and other professionals. We are not a therapeutic setting and as such do not offer clinical support or 1:1 supervision.

We were established in 2019 and have since grown rapidly from a small startup to a robust small-medium  enterprise with a turnover of £250k and serving over 400 beneficiaries a year.

Cumberland Lodge, based in Windsor Great Park,  is an educational charity that exists to provide young people with the skills, perspective, and confidence to question, challenge, and understand, some of the most complex social issues of our time. Our work currently centres around ethical leadership and developing democratic engagement.

The successful candidate will be responsible for pro-actively generating new business enquiries and opportunities for Cumberland Lodge, with the objective of maximising occupancy and income within the charitable and operational policies we work to.

Working closely with: Meeting & Events Manager, Hospitality Director, Communications & Engagement team

Strategic planning and execution

• Develop and implement the business development and marketing strategy aligned with our organisational goals.
• Lead the creation of multi-channel marketing plans to drive lead generation, and client acquisition.
• Oversee the delivery of venue marketing campaigns across digital, social, email, and traditional channels.

 Market awareness

• Analyse data and insights to inform marketing strategies and campaign adjustments.
• Stay abreast of industry developments and best practices to maintain a competitive edge.
• Undertake regular benchmarking of Cumberland Lodge’s conference facilities, services and charges against local competitors, identifying market trends, opportunities, and competitive rates. 

Lead generation and client acquisition

• Develop strategies to generate high-quality leads.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with potential new clients. 
• Identify new business opportunities and commercial partnerships to expand the client base.

Event promotion and coordination

• Collaborate with the Meeting & Events and Communications & Engagement teams to promote upcoming business development and marketing events, and maximise attendance.
• Create and manage event marketing calendars, timelines, and promotional plans
• Attend and support events to ensure successful delivery and to network with potential clients.

Management and reporting

• Develop and manage the marketing budget, ensuring optimal use of resources and adherence to budgetary constraints

 Location: Based at Cumberland Lodge in Windsor Great Park. (Applicants should be aware that Cumberland Lodge is not easily accessible by public transport, therefore access to a car would be beneficial).

This role is responsible for supporting effective financial management and reporting for projects and budget holders based within the Academy’s Finance Team. You will spend the majority of your time interacting with programme managers and budget holders to support on budgeting, forecasting, analysis of budget variances and provide regular finance reports to them, including monthly management accounts to ensure financial control and effective decision making

Key areas of responsibility:

• Lead on the annual budgeting and quarterly forecasting process including preparing budget templates for completion by budget holders, summaries of submissions for review and scrutiny and reconciliations of departmental budget submissions from draft to final. 
• Work with Head of Finance to finalise the Academy budget for presenting to Director of Finance & Resources and the senior management team.
• Ensure that finalised forecasts and budgets are accurately imported into the accounting system and a full audit trail is maintained. 
• Assist the Head of Finance and senior management team with the preparation of multi-year forecasts and models for bids and scenario planning.
• Working closely with budget holders, act as finance business partner and critical friend by challenging assumptions and broadening their financial thinking in order to objectively assess risk and ensure consistency across teams with financial inter-dependencies.
• Providing adhoc advice to budget holders and programme managers on financial matters and contract agreements.

The Friends of the RAF Club was established in 2021 to recognize these generous Members, many of whom have maintained their donations which have subsequently funded key refurbishment projects in the Club. Key Responsibilities:

The Director of Fundraising will be expected to deliver in 3 key areas:

DEVELOPMENT OF THE MEMBERSHIP GIVING JOURNEY

• Enhance the Friends Scheme through life giving and particularly ending with the Legacy commitment:

• Retain, recruit and steward the Friends of the RAF Club

CAPITAL CAMPAIGNS

Join a team setting up our Community Climate Fund (CCF), that aims to raise £100m and be actively supporting community climate action in 25 places across the UK by 2030. This is an exciting opportunity to identify and deliver a plan in a place (e.g. Salford, an area in Manchester, Warrington or Wigan) to have a positive social, environmental and economic impact for the communities there.

The Community Climate Fund Senior Lead, will be responsible for the successful development and delivery of the fund in the vicinity of the M62 corridor and will:

• Increase resilience to economic and environmental shocks
• Strengthen community coherence and wellbeing
• Accelerate progress towards net zero

The role will involve:

• Identifying and developing our next place in the North West of England to operationalize our Community Climate Fund.
