The People and Culture Manager plays a crucial role in Whitechapel Gallery and is responsible for managing all aspects of the human resource function, ensuring that the organisation attracts, develops and retains high-quality staff. This role supports the Deputy Director in fostering a positive and inclusive working culture, whilst ensuring compliance with employment legislation and best practices.

We are looking for an experienced People and Culture Manager who can help us create an inclusive and inspirational culture and workplace experience for the 65 people (43 permanent and 22 fixed-term) who work at Whitechapel Gallery, ensuring alignment with our organisational values. We are seeking someone who takes a proactive approach to all
employment matters, will research changes in the sector, is up to date with new HR systems and can provide excellent and forward-thinking advice to the Senior Management Team on all matters related to HR.

They will have a proven track record in the design and implementation of relevant HR policies and processes, drawing upon best practice from across the sector. They will have experience in implementing initiatives to embed equality, diversity and inclusion and have a strong commitment to fostering open communications and positive employee relations.

Previous experience of the arts or non-profit sector is desirable but not essential.

We are recruiting a Policy and Campaigns Manager to take forward our work on household debt. This role plays a key part in our campaign to end the UK’s household debt crisis.

Over ten million people in the UK are now ‘overindebted’, meaning they are behind on bills or are finding their debt repayments a heavy financial burden. The crisis has been growing over the last decade but has increased dramatically because of the pandemic and the cost-of-living crisis. More and more people are now borrowing to cover bills and essentials.

Our campaign combines community organising with national level campaigning and advocacy work to bring the voices of those most affected by the debt crisis to the fore in debates on policy solutions. You will use your policy and campaigning expertise to help ensure the people most impacted by problem household debt have a say in influencing the policies that affect them. You will work on issues such as the growth in council tax debt and bailiff use, the huge build up in energy debt as a result of the cost of living crisis and making insolvency policy and practice fairer and more accessible so more people can get out of debt.

You will be a key member of our household debt project team, working alongside the Head of Campaigns, Head of Policy and Advocacy, Digital Campaigner and Lead  Organiser.

We are looking for someone with great policy analysis and advocacy skills, a strong campaigning mindset, and a passion for social justice. We are not expecting you to already be an expert in all aspects of the role or in household debt policy but are looking for someone with the potential to develop quickly. Crucially, you will also need to appreciate why taking a community organising approach and building the power of people affected by debt is important, though you do not need to have experience in community organising.

This role will require some evening and weekend working, though this will be infrequent.

Contract Type: Permanent

Hours: Full-time (35 hours per week). Working part-time (minimum 28 hours a week) will be considered. When applying, please state what hours you are looking to work. Salary: Starting at £23,928 with potential annual step increases up to £26,930 (pro rata if working part-time), plus statutory employer’s pension contribution. In addition to an annual step increase, the trustees consider giving a separate inflationary increase every April.

Location: Remote or from Rainbow Migration’s offices which are based in London between Vauxhall and the Oval. Hybrid working will also be considered. Key Responsibilities:  

People HR Processes 

• Undertake all admin related to recruitment, onboarding and offboarding staff members

You will work closely with members, staff and suppliers to commission, edit and polish articles for the magazine and ensure that every page is top-quality and that it goes out to members on time and on-budget. The print magazine is very popular, and we now want to develop a winning digital version alongside the printed version, so one of your responsibilities will be to work with colleagues to oversee its digitisation.

You will also be part of our small but dedicated communications team, which is responsible for delivering not only the magazine, but also the MA’s successful media relations, social media posts and engagement, and the majority of our website content.

Hours:  21 hours per week (part-time). You could work these hours in three full days or spread over four or five days.

Salary: £35,000 per year (pro-rata)

Annual leave:  25 days annual leave (not including bank holidays) – again pro rata’d.

Key Responsibilities: 

1. Assessing learner skills and needs to establish starting points/baseline, with other TAP staff

2. Setting up and supporting learners in work placements to develop their skills and gain meaningful experience

3. Observing and evidencing the learner journey (keeping detailed records), monitoring learner progress (including target progress)

4. Liaising with families and team around the learner as required and to contribute to reviews- ensuring learners are working towards their outcomes and aspirations

5. Supporting employers and learners to work together effectively- suggesting and implementing reasonable adjustments

6. To work with Curriculum Manager/Team Leaders to support learners during class days, helping to create learning materials as needed.

7. To work with Curriculum Manager/Team Leaders to support learners with travel training, wellbeing support and signposting to extracurricular/socials and community events

8. Working alongside the Engagement Officer to find, source and maintain employer relationships

9. To support learners during social events, insight days and trips

As a member of the Senior Management Team, the Head of Finance will provide strategic and operational support to the Director of Corporate Services and Finance and wider management team.

This role is an exciting opportunity for the right person to lead the Finance Team and manage the outsourced finance and payroll providers. They will pay a key role in providing financial support across the organisation and managing the organisation’s finances and compliance with statutory regulations. They will ensure all necessary financial controls, systems, processes and procedure are in place.
